Morrowind!

Now, I might be imagining it but I think I'm stuck in the water in Vivec sewers (underworks?). I just wandered down there, killed a rat and jumped in the water, but now I can't seem to get back onto land as there's no slope suitable. I just swim up to the edge and can't do anything but turn back. If I swim out I end up in the city and it looks like a long way to any kind of ladder or escape. I tried googling this in various ways but found nothing. Any ideas?

Divine and Almsivi Intervention spells/scrolls/amulets could work. Recall spell/amulet could work too. Swimming out the city could be a viable option to do this the non-cheater way. Be careful of slaughterfish though. If not there's always console [COC "Cell"] where COC is "place me" command and Cell is the name of the cell you want to go to.

Thanks for the tips. I am at work now but I'll sort it out tonight. But I have to ask: is this what you would expect to happen? It just seems strange that I can't jump out of the water seeing as the walkway isn't really very high, a few centimetres above water level...

From what I can recall I remember having the same problem myself, in Vivec and another place you would visit during the MQ. Consider it an extra challenge or a deisgn flaw, it is meant to be there ;)

When you swim otu into the city's exterior canals just keep swimming through the city. IIRC each or at least a few of the 'islands' have a staircase/dock thing on them as aprt of a fast transport system which you can use to get up. Or you can keep swimming to the shore, it only takes a few minutes.

Thanks - I waded out into the city and about a canton's length away found a gondola; managed to climb out there. Of such adventures are heroes made.

One does not simply jump out from Vivec's sewers...

Afer playing a bit more I have a couple more perhaps stupid questions...

1) Some of my attributes are damaged (e.g. strength, in red, reads 30, but it should be much higher) but in my list of modifiers there is nothing damaging these attributes. I have tried taking various potions of cure disease/poison but to no avail. Previously when I had a blight disease my attributes were SERIOUSLY damaged (e.g. intelligence down to 2 ), but at least I understood why as it showed up in my modifiers! Am I missing something?

2) Are enchanted items FAR superior to casting spells yourself? I am inclined to think this because items recharge, but your own magic does not. Also, items cannot fail to cast, but you can. Are then your skills in each magic school largely irrelevant? Are there any downsides to enchanting items?

Even if the water level is about 2cm below the paved area?

1. It is something called "permanent damage". Do not worry, you can cure it by spell or portion.

2. It really depends on the item. However, in general, enchanted items are far better because they do not depend neither on your Intelligence and Willpower, nor on your skill. Not no mention that enchantments always work and do not drain your mana supply.

In Morrowind, Enchaning and Alchemy are overpowered, allowing PC to surpass powers of Gods.

Its black waters are guarded by more than just Ordinators. And there is evil there that does not sleep...;)

I never messed with enchanting, but I once greatly abused alchemy with my mage character. Good times, levitating for half an hour, emptying entire cities with über-powerful fireballs and lightning....:D

Help! How do you mark things on the map?

BUMP!

Man this game is awesome, and some of the mods out there are mind blowing now.

The stuff they can do with the graphics is amazing.

Reloaded this only a few weeks ago and I am hooked. Playing a Tank/Mage. Enjoying the ability to beef myself up with spells then charge in! Mark/recall back to a merchant once I am weighed down with loot is VERY handly also!

I am saving up for a Blinkblade, but I worry it will ruin the game for me :/

I have spent more time on Morrowind than any other game I've owned or played by far, with the possible exception of a couple of MUDs at university. It is indeed an awesome game. :D

Also the game I spent the most time playing (2nd would be Civ4), mainly due to the mods (same reason why Civ4 is 2nd on the list). I also remember coming back to it after a break, and still finding myself amazed.

Here's to Tamriel Rebuilt hopefully releasing new content before 2012.

Absolutely wonderful game. I've played it off and on since 2005 and I still haven't done everything there is to do. So many factions, so many skills, so many quests, so many places... Never finished Tribunal and haven't so much as set foot on Solstheim, so I imagine I'll get many more years out of Morrowind.

I really need to get past the first quest that sends you to Vivec, I always lose my focus at that point..

I have Morrowind on Steam, picked it up a while back when it was on sale. I had some spare digital cash and heard it was good, so I picked it up.

This may sound blasphemous, but I never really got into it. In fairness, it wasn't the game's fault. My computer had some issues with it; the sound card would often just kinda cut out and when that happened, the game would refuse to load, meaning that most of the time I wanted to play it I couldn't, and when I could, I usually wasn't in the mood. Probably don't have much more than a few minutes logged.

I'd really love to be able to play it; I've since played Oblivion (console) and found it rather enjoyable (although the main quest was a little dull), and Morrowind is supposed to be quite superior.

Like I've said before, runescape kind of ruined me for this game, I'm still too used to other people being around in a huge world like this. I just feel so lonely and it depresses me a little. I only avoid it in Fallout because of the music and the fact that it's generally a bit more exciting. Pew pew pow! loot! yay!

I actively enjoy the loneliness. The companion quests always sucked and I'm the sort of player who flies, jumps and teleports everywhere anyway. :)
