Most Embarassing Moment

Probably being sneak-attacked barely even 10 turns into a game. I was Persia and started very close to the Ottomans. I put 1 warrior in Persepolis as MP, and sent out some more as explorers. Meet the Ottomans soon. A few turns later, they attacked my capitol with a single warrior and won...

I was more angry than embarrassed. It's the first time I've actually lost a game in a very long time. I've never been sneak-attacked that early.

There are other embarrassing occasions. I can't count the number of times I had an enemy SOD right outside my cities, but then I go about managing my empire and forget all about it. So I hit enter, and you can probably tell what happened on the following turn.

Early modern age. English and Germany at war. I'm in the middle. They are both polite with me. I'm in ROP with english. I give ROP to the germans too so they can beat up each other while i'm reinforcing, developing and collecting cash.
In the process of relocating troops, i accidentally left undefended my capital. It had only a leader, which is worthless for defending purposes. Ah, my territory was entirely railroaded. I hit <enter>, then guess what?
I glare in horror as a puny german longbowman (!!!!) materializes out of one of my tiles next to my capital and walks boldly to conquer it! Leader killed, capital razed. Roma (my capital) was by far the city with most culture in the world. Pyramids, sistine chapel, hanging gardens, newton university, copernicus observatory, sun tzu and smith's company: all these wonders lost forever.
"We love the king" ends everywhere, a few towns go to civil disorder. Research way down, money down, most of my barracks disappeared, most of my granaries gone.
I curse wildly at my stupidity, i can almost imagine Bismark laughing at me "That moron! Idiot! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Next turn, REVENGE! Nuked Berlin and a few other german cities. Launched an all-out attack with all my troops, germany erased from world in a dozen turn... Btw, my wonderful culture-champion, top of science and top of economy capital disappeared forever, what a shame! (on me)

I'm forever leaving no defence units ungaurded, especially during late-game mass wars (they seem to feature quite a lot in my games :mischief: , even when I'm playing peacfully, the AI starts on me). Just last night I lost a 30 strong artillery stack, because I moved it to repel repeated landing attempts (they turn round if you batter the transport and escort to 1 hp), and forgot to move the infantry stack that was guarding it. The other enemy got a modern armour to it  . Managed to get it back next turn though :D

I think my worst though, was discovering how Diplomatic victories work, on my last Chieftain game. I posted it here under 'How did I lose from here'

Having war declared upon me and not realizing that i had about 27 workers (undefended) right on the enemies border. (Yes all of them got captured). However in the end i destroyed them in revenge

Atleast it wasn't like 1 Sid level game where Germany was 5 turns away with a stack of warriors... Germany decided to attack before I could build my first warrior. (BTW, your experience is just the reason why building warriors (or barracks->warriors) first is what you need to do in MP games. :)
Hehe, I've seen this from the other side. I popped a warrior from a hut when I founded my capital, took out 2 AI civs before they could get their first units. (It was one of those archipeligos where the RMG sticks everyone on a single island)

I had a wonder palace pre-build near completion, then I was attacked by the Romans and lost a couple of cities. Next turn the palace completed (as the cost is based on empire size) and I was less than pleased

Possibly the largest arty bombardment done by the AI ever. All stuff wrecked. Many cities get terminated with minimal casualties to the AI. All forces move around to the outskirts of my capital. I only have really outdated defense. No matter for those AIs though. Refusal for peace. Then they all hit my capital. So many people and wonders lost. Meanwhile, I am just twiddling my thumbs when they formed the destructo-stack. Gad I love this game!

Having a worker stack finish a terrain improvement only to have the unit that defending those workers pillage that terrain improvement.

what? did you press the wrong button? did you not think straight?

the a worker improvement button and the pillage button are in the same place. I just clicked too quickly.

nuking my enemy,
I started off with about 5 nukes at them(we were at war)
then everyone else seems to suddenly create nukes and declare war on me.
I launched about 20 nukes that game before dying, but 50-60 were launched at me. FUnny thing was the second best city in the world(My capital) was size 1 from the nukings(it was kinda funny to see that on the best cities screen)

Looks like you made a big oopsie eh?

On my first Emperor game I refused to give the Ottomans what they wanted so they steamrolled my spear/sword army with their tanks. One of my spears killed three tanks though.

That's why I use hotkeys. ;)

Encountering the Sub Bug for the first time, and while I'm screaming WHOA WHOA WHOA STOOOOPPPP!!!!!!!!! Carthage pours cavalry over my fortified border with my infantry shooting at them, razed one of my cities.

I shut down hard and reloaded.

My most embarassing moment has to be the time I declared war on America without knowing they had four MPPs with other civs.

That is one way to learn to appreciate the value of embassies! ;)

I've been thinking hard about my embarrassing moments ... I am not the world's most careful player - I am a competent monarch level player pretty much stuck there by my own impatience. So I have made many of the classic lack-of concentration errors, such as leaving stacks of artillery undefended, carelessly initiating Golden Age at the beginning of nine turns of Anarchy, etc.

I think my single dumbest moment, however, came in my first OCC 20k attempt, when I refused to give in to a neighbor's demand for gold. Talk about "unclear on the concept!" That game didn't last a whole lot longer.

My most stupid moves ever both involve modern age world wars (that I usually start.)

The first time I had a stack of 30 or so modern armor try to take a large and well defended enemy city and I watched it get cut in half. Instead of continuing my attack on the city, I decided to nuke the thing to weaken its defenses (nukes had not yet been used in the game either.) I nuked the city and destroyed all defensive units, then realized I had forgotten to move my own units out of the blast range of the nuke first.

The second time involved an enemy SOD so large there was no way I could take it out with conventional troops. I again decided to use a nuke to destroy or weaken the stack. I proceed to nuke the stack, which was in a square right next to one of my cities. Rather than nuke a square next to the SOD, hitting the stack and only some of my terrain improvements, I hit the SOD directly. I killed all but 2 units in the stack, but my city they were next to also got fragged.
