Playing the Rise of Rome scenario as Carthage on Regent, I assembled a massive invasion force and ferried it up from Carthago and started up the "boot" of italy. Crushing every town I came to with few casualties, I was only fighting against a few Garrisons and one or two legions. I wondered where all the legions were?
I assembled a small cavalry force in Spain to establish a second front, and send them out. I notice 30+ Veteran and elite legions heading West to my poorly defended cities!
I tried to use the cavalry to hit and run on the legions, but to no avail.
I immediately begin mass-producing Numidian Mercenaries and occasional heavy cavalry and send them all to Spain. I begin to move my main invasion force west, too, having completely crushed Italy. Abandoning a few outlying towns, i eventually assemble my main army at one city, along with my invasion force and 2 armies. In a pitched battle on the plains outside the city, the romans lose, and only 2 or 3 of them actually manage to attack the city!
Most fun tactical situation I've ever had.
I still lost the game, though despite completely crushing rome. I just couldn't get past Persia in points!
