yes thats true! he is the moust intresting dictator! He has workd for the people, and he was loved and respected during the cold war on bouth sides! If he didnt die yugoslavia wuld still live!

That doesn't say a lot about his administrative qualities, does it? Or rather, it speaks volumes about it.

the turkmenbashi guy. the one who banned lip-synching

pol pot was pretty interesting too

He managed to keep Yugoslavia together, that alone says a lot about his administrative qualities.

If only they could have loved Yugoslavia that much :mischief:

His Excellency Saparmurat Niyazov Türkmenbaşy, President of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers is my personal favourite. He built a giant gold statue of himself that revolves with the sun, its kinda hard to top that.

7. Saparmurad Niyazov, Turkmenistan. Age 62. In power since 1990.

Since being elected president (unopposed) of this former Soviet republic in central Asia, Niyazov has developed a personality cult that would be comical were it not accompanied by extreme repression. He gave himself the title Turkmenbashi, or “Father of all Turkmen.” His picture is on all Turkmen money, statues of him are everywhere, and his profile always appears in a corner of the TV screen. Niyazov renamed the month of January after himself and September after Rukhnama (Book of the Soul), the work that summarizes his philosophy and is required reading in all schools. He shut down the opera, ballet and circus as being un-Turkmen and closed the Academy of Sciences. In harvest season, rural children are taken from school and forced to work for minimal pay. Last fall, Niyazov announced that he’d survived an assassination attempt, which he used as an excuse to arrest political opponents.

You still haven't explained why the Italians felt the need to use illegal methods to crush the Ethiopians. The truth is they were beaten just decades ago, despite their purported modernity. There was clearly some fear that they would somehow screw up. Again. And it wouldn't be surprising. Despite its immense modernity, the US army today can't simply win against the insurgents in Iraq.
.

Why do you point out the US Army when there are a mulitude of other countries in that struggle having the same problem? Partisan war is nothing new and it's not easily defeated, the history goes back a long way. Look at the French underground or the partisans in Russia, even one of the most brutal Armies in history being Nazi Germany couldn't stem the insurgent, partisan, underground, forces.

Josef Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili Stalin, a thoroughly loathsome personage.
He was responsible for the deaths of tens of millions. Next after him comes Adolf Hitler.
But I would not call them interesting, both are the greatest examples of the Evil that man can come to so far.

It's just a relevant and current example. And it's true, yes? Chill.

Yes, but not everything needs to be compared to Iraq and/or President Bush. I mean, I am not blaming you particularly; I did see a worse example today where someone asked a question about what time zone/day you would use on the International Date Line and someone used it to complain about Bush.

I wasn't even complaining. I merely said that technological and organisational superiority do not ensure victory. It's an objective statement backed by a fact, that's all. Why are Americans so sensitive about Iraq now?
