Most worthless unit in the game?

Chariot .

Chariots aren't completely useless as you can use the strategy of holding off on HBR, mass-producing chariots and gold, and then upgrading them all at once and :hammer:

Perhaps, but by the time I've gotten horsies hooked up (unless they're right next to my captial) I'm long past HBR. 'Course, that's just my playstyle. They're worthless to me because I never get the chance to build them.

They're cheap, and upgrade to the best units of the game. All you have to do is not research HBR, get it last, beeline to Chivalry, and you've got yourself a killer upgrade.

Of course, you'd need a whole lot of money...

Right, there's that. I'm generally struggling until about halfway through the middle ages....

IMO, boats are very useful replacements for artillery, if you are attacking from the coast. In my current game with Rhye's modpack, I'm playing as England and I am destroying every single improvement on the coast across the English channel.

Anyway, chariots are pretty useless. Ironclads? I never built them in my life.

I would have said explorer ... for the same reasons as stated by .Shane ... however the explorer Army sounds interesting ... So I choose Iron Clad for the reasons already mentioned

I've never ever built a Stealth Plane. I cannot imagine any situation where I'd ever research that tech. Same for Modern Paras.
I've never ever used a Chariot. I did build them, but only to upgrade. So the unit itself is the least useful (if "useful" includes "using it").
Explorers=Pillagers. Ironclads, yes; don't like them, but I did manage to get Ironclads as free tech...and if you someow get the tech (often enough you'll get it with a deal), they aren't that bad. Nice upgrade. Helis, Paras -rarely.

spearman...
Why? They're pretty cheap and upgrade all the way to mech infantry.

Also, in the AWS games I have seen people build a ton of spears and mass upgrade them to muskets.

Workers.

No, seriously, I never seem to build chariots, because I usually get HBR before I can build chariots in a decent number. Also, being wheeled, they cannot enter certain terrains without roads, whereas horses are not subject to that.

stealth fighter

I think I built one long ago on my first chieftan game

nevermore....

Ironclads are useless, so are chariots, since they are wheeled and horsemen are only a tech away. War Chariot is a horrible UU, so is cossack, man O war, and F-15. If your having alot of naval battles at that time, ironclads are just around the corner.

F-15 Yes, it is better than a jet fighter, but why have your UU in the Modern Era, when the Americans are best in the ancient era. The game is already decided. Plus the GA is in a poor slot unless you trigger it with wonders, which is hard since there are few Ind. wonders and not an excess of Exp. ones either.

I used to think Explorers were the most worthless unit because you get them so late and they would be much more useful earlier in the game. I never thought of using them as Tomoyo suggested. Great tip! I would use them as scouts in friendly territory when they were at war, to see what was going on and what they and their competion had. It helps to gauge two or more forces power levels.

To answer the question though, MOW / Ironclads are completely worthless and no time should be spent researching the tech or building units that are so quickly obsolete.

bowmen are the best in the beggining don't bother with spearmen if you can make bowmen.
longbowmen are useless they become obsolete so quickly

I dont think longbow men are useless. Upgrading an archer to a longbowman is a good way to get a 4 attack unit. I tend to build a lot of archers so I like the upgrade ability.

Privateers, i mean whats the point ?

Well you sink ships without causing a war. All the enemy navies will come looking for your privateeres since they already know where they are. You can lead them a merry chase while your real navy sails on unimpeded to it's objective.

The C3C MOW is actually quite powerful on archipelago maps. They act as highly mobile artillery against coastal cities. Enslave and +1 movement ain't bad either.

To answer the question: stealth fighter - expensive and not good at anything.
