I was wondering if they could get a +1 tourism on them after a certain technology is researched and/or a building is built.

Tourism in Civ5 is rather indicator of how many foreigners know your culture. I wouldn't say that having mountains makes your culture more known in other countries.

In some cases, I suppose it might, with a Ski Resort or something akin to that. There's a lot of tourism activity surrounding mountains that arguably has a slight effect on influence. I'm not against that idea as mountain tiles aren't particularly useful in any way.

Can tourism be put on tiles though? I've never seen it.

My 13 euro-cents here is that mountains even being workable is completely random. Even with the extremely situational pantheon and the observatory they are still garbage. However this does not mean that I'm suggesting buffing them, I just really don't see why you should work them in the first place.

Yeah I don't get why the observatory gives +2 :c5science: on mountains. I get WHY it does, but +2 is really nothing. Sure you might use them if you set the city to focus on science, but if you don't they never get worked so whats the point? Maybe if it was like +5 :c5science: I could see getting some real use out of mountains.

As for tourism on all mountains, eh doesn't make much sense for the game since we already have some mountains as natural wonders. If given them culture is really the only way to get tourism out of them, then the culture could come from either a new building that can only be built in a city that's within 2 tiles of a mountain or some new pantheon belief. Not saying we need it, but that's how you could do it.

Sacred Mountains: +2 :c5faith: and :c5culture: from all mountain tiles.

Well... observatory is OK when all your workable tiles and specialists slots are filled, which happens, especially when there are lots of mountains around. If city is large and with a couple of mountains then this +2:c5science: is slightly better than +2:c5production: because it doesn't add 1/4 unhappiness from unemployed citizen.

But otherwise it's not that good. High maintenance.

Don't unemployed citizens get the normal specialistbonuses aswell? Like 1 science 1 gold from rationalism and so on.

Not a huge fan of having a pantheon belief that turns an unworkable tile into a workable one, sounds kinda strong.

The more I think about it, the more I do like the idea of a new pantheon belief to buff mountains.

I dont mind it because without that belief mountains do jack anyways. So don't think about it as giving some extra bonus to a player who is already well off, think about it as making up for the fact that you got stuck with tiles that cant be worked or replaced with great person improvements. It's a means to help with a set back and its not taking something that's already good and making it way better *cough* forest and jungle *cough*. Speaking of which, I don't think Sacred Packed is too strong, sure its good early game but by mid to late it's a drop in the bucket.

Maybe Places of Power should be divided up? It's kind of a grab-bag of completely unrelated features at the moment. Perhaps in addition to mountains being given their own thing atolls could be given to the sea pantheon and sacred waters could be brought back for rivers, lakes, and oasis?

Random idea edit: Could mountains be thrown in with natural wonders? They are large, impressive natural features. Combining the two would also make the natural wonders pantheon less useless, since it would effect more than like one or two tiles throughout your empire. Actually, rename THAT "Places of Power". Would be more fitting than "One with Nature" if mountains were included.

This makes sense to me (the latter point), though Places of Power should probably remain. Yeah it is a bit situational, but it can especially strong on archipelago maps.

It is pretty situational yes, is there some other weird terrain feature that doesn't get buffed by any pantheon that can get added to it?

Lakes and marshes. Nothing works with those at the moment. It would still be a random bag of unrelated stuff though. Why does it even HAVE atolls? There's no reason for those not to be part of God of the Sea.

God of the Sea is pretty much already a no-brainer on oceanmaps, no need to make it even stronger.

That is ok cause not everyone plays ocean maps. There is always going to be some pantheon belief or Civ UA that has a huge advantage based on the map type you use. Which is why I play Communitas. I dont want anyone getting some inherent buff, even for myself, because it isn't fair.

Ok I'll re-phrase: 'God of the Sea is already extremely strong, even on low water maps as long as you decide to settle all your cities coastal (which pretty much is forced upon a handful of civs)'

Also Communitas is pretty much a ocean-map.
