Mouse Over extra info flaky

I've never had this problem, I've had the problem where the mouse over for tiles and units to longer works, but never this...

I'm one in two dozen, I'll wager.

No, I thought it was about mousing over techs and building options, not units and terrain tiles.

Just adding my two cents to say that this bug is absolutely driving me batty and I'm experiencing all the issues everyone else is describing - mouseover tips not working, listboxes not scrolling, mouse-over-terrain not working.
Also one that I don't see mentioned: sometimes when I drag a unit over an enemy unit it doesn't show the combat odds, and I have to click away and then select my unit again before it will show the odds.
Since this is also mouseover behaviour I assume it's all part of the same bug, which appears to be a focus issue of some kind (does the game window have some sort of invisible child window that steals the focus from the main window sometime?).

Kinda reminds me of the infamous "yawning SAM infantry" bug from Warlords - seemingly random, and such a big problem (for those that haven't encountered it, there was a typo in one of the config files causing the SAM infantry's random yawning sound's min volume to be higher than the max volume. The game didn't know what to do when it encountered this, so whenever that sound got played it would freak out and play a hissing, shrieking noise at maximum volume. I and a few people I know were wearing headphones when we first encountered that bug...).

As others have mentioned, BtS's increased use of mouseovers in the form of Random Events has made this already-aggravating problem just that much worse.

It happens every couple of turns, on average.
To correct it, I click on my second screen and then back again, or alt-tab as others do.

p.s. hi, I'm new here. :)

Yes - welcome.

Glad you bumped the thread - it was starting to get lost.

Doubt they'll do anything about the problem though - its been around for years. Why waste time making the game playable when you can work on that cool new feature that looked good on paper but turns out to be ill thought out and half-baked?

guys, just disable right mouse button menu option and you will never experience this problem again. it does take some getting used to, not using the right mouse button, but at least tooltips never disappear.

The fact that it worked for you doesn't mean that it works for everyone. In fact, it doesn't work for everyone.

Sorry, doesn't work that way, the problem is still there, although less so (at least for me and my friends it is).
If I have bought a game, the least I should espect if it doesn't work correctly is that the makers take the problem seriously (I'm not sure they have) and try to fix it (they haven't, the problem has been around since Civ4 vanilla, they have commented it once (?) and that comment wasn't much help).

For me the problem is new. New because I have lived through Civ4 vanilla, Civ4 warlord and I have learned the technologies and other infos and I have gotten use to the RMB function (call it an addict). Now we have events (and some new tech/units/etc.) that I don't know and especially the events I don't know. I have tried to play without the RMB, but that drives me mad (so many wrongs moves) so I go for learning the events instead (it will be faster). I have played quite a bit now and I have learned most (hmm) of the events so I'm not that dependent anymore. It's till anying though and I do (still) think that this issue has shown some arrogance and/or incompetence from the makers part. they could at least be honest enough to admit that they do not know how to fix this (the answer I got when I emailed them a while back, was a standard email that told me to update my drivers, hey, I know that).

sorry it doesn't work for you guys. i'm the guy who started this thread so i know how much suffering we've been through since vanilla, warlords, BtS, and luckily for me, disabling the RMB worked for me, 100%. i haven't had the tooltips disappear on me a single time since then. i wonder why it worked for me and not for others... but sorry to hear it doesn't help you guys.

the only other things that have been done to my PC since is few windows updates and ATi graphics driver upgrades.

still, i want firaxis to eventually fix this annoyance so i can start using the right click menu. i hate not being able to use "Fortify All" command anymore...

I have this problem, too. It is especially infuriating during an event screen. I didn't know what causes mouseovers to come back. I'll probably try the alt-tab when I notice this next. This happens to me in almost every game, sometimes several times.

I noticed that two of the people who have this problem have optical mice, as I do. Perhaps this might be contributing to the problem.

I want to say that I have experienced this exact same problem and consider it to be the major issue that affects my enjoyment of the game.

Problem: At the beginning of any given turn - all mouse over information will stop working.

I used to fix it by going into a city and making an alteration (and undoing the alteration) to worked tiles or specialist assignment though I don't know if simply going into the city was enough.

I can confirm that rolling the mouse over the flag to the left of the minimap does fix this problem for me and is a far more convienient way of fixing the issue until it next appears.

But that doesn't always allow me to fix it when I need it tobe fixed - sometimes a turn begins with a pop up. But there are ways of dealing with these issues.

1) I've always played with minimise pop ups switched on so that the game wouldn't ask me about what changes I want to make to my civ until after I've moved my units around. That gives me time to fix the mouse over problem if it occurs by rolling over the flag. I haven't used this option because it gives me a chance to fix the game but because I prefer having pop ups wait until the end of a turn so maybe that won't suit everyone.

2) Minimise pop ups doesn't work for random events and diplomatic requests. The roll over can be fixed for diplomatic events by pressing F1 which will take you to your domestic advisor screen. From there you can enter a city and fix the rollover. I don't know if this works for events. (Actually it might only work for diplomatic requests where only the central column appears - I don't remember).

Playing with the 3.17 patch now (had to do a clean install because it completely borked itself when I tried to update).
Still just as flaky

Hi. New here,too.

I've never had a mouseover problem on either of the computers I play on (1 Vista, 1 XP), but my scroll wheel has never worked in a menu at all. (BTS 3.13 & 3.17, and vanilla Civ4) It works on the main screen. Do any of you have it work in menus? Is it supposed to work in menus?

I don't know what I'm doing different than you guys regarding the mouseover thing, but I can really sympathize.
