Mouse Over extra info flaky

Is it ever repeatable?

Of course.. Every game.. I have no idea what triggers it though..It almost seems random..

I've gotten so used to this that I don't even think about it anymore. Would be nice if it was fixed. Since I'm long past finding this annoying anymore, I doubt I'll ever look at it. Maybe somebody who's got some experience with mouse events could give it a look-through someday.

Some people have mentioned the city story. Those people should know that there are times when you can't leave your popup boxes until you have chosen something, so how do you "go in" to a city and back again then?

ALT+Tab :) But if I can, I just go to the city screen now that I know that works.

And yes it does seem random when it happens. Sometimes it happens 5 turns apart, sometimes one after another.

Just to add my voice to the crowd, disappearing tooltips has been an issue in every version of Civ4 for me, too. I definitely encountered it more often when using the right-click menu option, but it does still occur occasionally without that option checked.

I don't know if this is related or not, but sometimes the mouseover info in the details box (ie: terrain info, unit info, etc) gets stuck. You move the mouse over varying terrain, and the details shown don't change. You have to scroll the mouse over to the flag or the ping/grid/yield/resource buttons before it will unstick. This issue has existed in every version of Civ4 for me, too.

can we get one of the dev's to take a look at this thread? it really needs to be fixed...

I think one of them has seen one of these threads about this, but acted just like the "non-believers" over here. I think that the devs knows about issue, but they don't know why it happens so they don't say anything and hopes the voices go away. I mean the problem has been around during the entire civ4 history and threads about it has been around since then too, but has always been marginalized.

that's true....it's been already few years, bunch of patches, 2 expansion sets and this bug isn't addressed...i see no hope for this being fixed...oh well...

While we voice our opinion about this bug, there is still a chance that it will be fixed. It does reduce the fun in the game and increases tedium because you have to do some weird things (alt tabbing or moving the mouse over your leader information).

I'll add my voice to the many who say: Please fix this bug.

I reported this on early Vanilla. Seemed to go away (or at least reduce, or I just got used to it) with later Vanilla/Warlords but is back with a vengeance on BTS. Seems to happen randomly - several times a turn on long turns - and you now absolutely need tooltips, e.g. to handle the random events.

I suspect that there are several variants of the same problem with different severity (some sort of context nesting problem).

It is easy to reproduce a less severe case on my machine - just select a unit using the right click menu - then enter the technology advisor. There will not be any tooltips showing the number of beakers required (Saved game attached from BTS 3.02 with hof mod). In this case tooltips comes back very quickly (e.g exit the advisor and double click an empty tile) but on other occasions the effects are more severe.

Other info that might be related:
Can sometimes get tooltips back by double clicking an empty tile.
Can sometimes get tooltips back by double-clicking on a foreign city (but not my own).
Also - sometimes - the tile information display at the bottom left of the main screen area gets stuck showing information about the tile occupied by the last unit accessed.
Sometimes when I alt-tab out the mouse is continually dragged to the top left hand corner of the screen until I alt-tab back.

I agree that it is a bug and should be fixed.

I could live with the problem before BTS.

But with the new random events - how can you choose which one, if you can not mouse over the consequences?

Also, you have to ALT-TAB out and back again to get it to work, mousing over the flag does not work with RE.

This bug is around since Civ4 vanilla.
I have experienced it when I enabled the RMB-function (which was quite useful, btw). Since it seemed that this caused the bug, since years I have disabled it again and never met this bug anymore.

Maybe you check if you have enabled the RMB-function?

Strange because I have tested with and without the right click menu option (hmm I assume that RMB is that) and it happens anyway.

So is a mod going to mark this as 'confirmed'?

This bug is repeatable, many people experience it, and it really takes away from the fun of this game.

No I do not use the RMB option, I never have. But the mouse over problem happens to me in every game from Civ4, Warlords and now BTS. It usually starts mid to late game.

I have AMD 3.2Ghz, XP home, 1.5GB ram and ATI AIWPRO 128 graphics..

its been few days since i disabled RMB menu function and surprisingly i haven't had tooltips disappear on me yet. you guys ought to try it, although it takes some getting used to.

Lucky you Minmaster. Done that, tried that, still happens to me.

It is nothing to do with the RMB - I have never - repeat NEVER - used thay option. Yet it will happen - eventually - once it does, it will be ongoing.
