Moving bases?

Hi everybody,

just recently I stumbled over this pretty old but nevertheless remarkable well done game. So far my first try in mastering it is quite successful  , but some questions still remain.

I`m about to exterminate Yang. :ar15: Unfortunately his bases (which I`ve conquered so far) are so crowded together that the base-areas are overlapping way too much for my liking. Is there a way to move or give up some bases in order to maximize the efficiency of the than remaining bases? Thanks in advance for any useful advice.
Kind regards

Welcome to CFC!

Yes. Assuming you are at the higher difficulty levels, you can starve the bases to size one, then build a colony pod. You will be given the option to abandon the base or hold off on building the colony pod. If you choose the first, you end up with a colony pod instead of a base. You can then use the colony pod to increase the population at another base.

If you are patient, you can build a lot of colony pods instead of starving the base.

If you are impatient and you don't mind committing an atrocity, you can destroy the base with a military unit in the base.

Does this answer your question?

Please note that this isn't truly 'moving' the base. Since you will have to rebuild any facilities, and any secret projects will be lost forever.

Dear vyeh,

thanks for the warm welcome! :)

Does this answer your question?

Unfortunately: no. Because I started my first game at level "Specialist". So, the base is not abandoned after finishing a colony-pod with only one citizen left...

Any other ideas? Beside razing it to the ground, because even in a game I try to avoid unnecessary violence... ;)

BTW: Another question. I`m allied with Lal und really like the increased trade-income from this alliance. Now Lal´s units can use my roads. His mediocre military units and formers don´t bother me. But now a colony-pod has emerged in my realm and I really would hate the idea, that Lal starts building bases within or at least close to territory I consider "mine"... Is there a way to "discourage" his units to swarm over my territory without breaking the alliance? Until recently I managed to kick them out by demanding withdrawal via the diplomatic screen. But right now there´s a sunspot-special-event active that prevents any communication with all other leaders for 20 gameturns. Any good advice how to keep unwanted "settlers" away from my territory without risking a war? Which I coundn`t declare on an ally right now anyway.... (remember? No radio-contact and I can`t attack those "friendly" units, either)

Thanks
regards

Other factions cannot build your bases directly in your territory (the section of the world within the dashes line colored with your faction color.) Near the territory, I think you're just out of luck, you'll have to build cities to claim territory if you want an enemy faction out.

You're welcome

I found a solution! You starve the pop 1 base.

Turn the lone citizen into a doctor or put it onto a zero nutrient square. Assuming you have sold the recycling tanks, the base square is producing two nutrients (assuming it isn't on a monsoon square or a bonus nutrient square) and the lone citizen is consuming two nutrients.

Now produce a supply crawler. Send the crawler to another base. When you get there, use the convoy nutrient option. Now the first base is transferring a nutrient to the second base. So the first base is producing only one nutrient but the citizen is consuming two nutrients!

The base starves. I checked in the scenario editor for "Citizen" difficulty and this works.

If the base has been built on a monsoon or bonus nutrient, then you will need another crawler or another two crawlers to starve the base.

Now, does that answer your question?

I assume by "allied," you mean "pacted". A pact AI cannot build a base inside your territory without declaring vendetta. (For that matter, a treatied or truce AI cannot build a base inside your territory without declaring vendetta.)

If you don't support your pactmate in a vendetta with a third faction, it might go to treaty but no further as far as I know.

Unfortunately, you can't stop your pactmate from building a base just outside your territory, which might have the effect of shrinking your territory.

Note that a faction in vendetta with you can build a base inside your territory.

Hi vyeh,

thanks, that sounds feasible - although it`s pretty hard on those innocent settlers, isn`t it? :mischief: And yes, it answers my questions - unless I come up with new ones... ;);););)

So far: Thanks again a lot for your efforts!

One option that I am not sure of (since I do not have the game installed) is to click on a Peacekeeper unit in your territory with a right-click and select "demand withdrawal" from drop-down menu. It may still be possible even during blackout in communications. Let me know if it worked.

Hi Gelion,

unfortunately: no. This option doesn`t appear within the "right-click" drop down menu. But thanks for trying anyway.

Kind regards

Too bad.... oh well, I hoped that would work :crazyeye:

If a pactmate has a unit within your territory, contact them via the Commlinks and select "You have violated my territory. Leave at once." I think this will always work (unless all communications are down). Although they can't build a new base within your territory, a bottled-up AI will try to send CPs through your territory to break out somewhere else.
