MP9 - AWE Pangaea, Austria

I signed up since it's AW, so i would be happy if you keep it that way...no need to be that scared...

Thanks for signing up, markh. Seems like we are good to go assuming...

I'll go with NOW. I hope ThERat and Leha aren't terribly offended. I doubt I'll meet 2 civs during the first turns, so there will still be time to change it back so that we can get pwnd if we want. :king:

ThERat objects to NOW, which is understandable, so it's back to AW. We can think about starting strategies, as we have at least 4 players, and possibly 5.

IMO, we need to expand very slowly and keep small and safe. I think I'd settle N on the hill.

EDIT: Basically producing lots of military and city size vs. settlers and expansion.

handy's suggestion to move west wasn't a bad idea either. settle, build a warrior and gaze fog a little for the next spot to settle. important is to not run around into the AI initially.

I wasn't sure because the time it takes to play an AW game might make me ask more skips than would be desireable when the fall semester knocks at my door. I'm sure we can pull it on any decent start, such as this one - I'm just not sure how much I can help.

Beorn: that's cool. school is more important than civ, so feel free to ask for time.
Everyone: if we fail, it will be alright, but let's put our collective heads together and try to win. :) Also, don't forget to download the mod.

Time to get this thing going. I went 1W and got another cow. [party]

- no contacts
- We have a barracks and 3 vet archers.
- I've researched Bronze Working.
- 1 turn of research towards Pottery.
- Remember we are Industrial - 2 turns for roads, 3 for irrigation, 3 for forest chops, and 4 for mines.

Here's my dotmap for the next 2 cities. One of the two west river locations for the cow and 3 possible north locations. That hill would be great for production later...but that's assuming we survive until then. Right now it might be good for a defensive position.

got it,

2 questions:

1. install the mod into a certain folder or does it self extract and install?
2. more important, what is your stand in AW, initial trading yes or no?

Both files in the .zip, the folder and the .biq go in Civilization III/Conquests/Scenarios.

Trade if you can. I assume they would trade with each other eventurally, so it is to our benefit to trade in this type of game.

lurker's comment:

The hill looks good, but the western dot I think should be moved 1 tile down below the river for river protection and unobstructed movement from the capital.

I'd go W+SW of the cow first, as it is our only protectable city at the moment among the 2 areas and it grabs a bit more land. For the one afterwards, maybe the dot to complete the line, if it's a river tile.

since they know pottery as well, research drops

IT EW runs off, we get pottery, go for IW next, we need that
Salzburg finishes walls, next is a rax

we have another settler, but leave it unmoved so we can decide where to settle
we need spears now since we are at war already
I hope the hills and mountains in the west have iron for us

Got it, I will play tomorrow.
I didn't see minimap, so if our east is safe, I think we should settle desert tile SE of BG on the sea shore. This city will be productive for troops and will be close to Salzburg helping to hold defence.

lurker's comment: I am pretty sure I have played an AWE pangea in an SG and won - perhaps one of the LK games.

The difficulty varies greatly based on the start - it can be anything from a cake walk to impossible. I wouldn't worry about trying this.

My own schedule is also full or I would have joined you.

we need a road SW of vienna. With 3 cities up we can focus on building units, spears and archers. make these units in vienna which has a barrack. change salzburg to a worker.

- Looks good. I wouldn't explore anymore, as we have a good idea of the terrain. Should go north for next city sites.
- I'd go for the Wheel next, then Alpha->Mathematics.
- If you can get a granary started in Vienna with forest chops, that would be nice, otherwise I would wait until much more growth for settlers and just produce military.

Now for the next town: do we settle backdoor on that grass by the sea or do we attack the silks with a 2-step settling plan?

Got it, probably won't have a settler in my turns anyways.
