Hi everyone,

I apologise in advance cause i know there are already plenty threads and posts dealing with this problem. I searched the forum and I found someone linking the Oos problem with the spawning of Infernals/Mercurians or with the kind of connection (Direct Ip connection shouldn't cause the problem, it is said). I read the Gerikes' guide too, which is complete and really well explained but...I mean, do I really have to go through debugging and changing, arranging the code EVERYSINGLETIME I notice the Oos!?!? Plus, I'm Italian so I find quite difficult to read AND understand properly the whole guide (my bad, I know).

So the question is, I'm playing with a friend of mine in the same house, under the same wireless NET (can use LAN or Direct Ip) with the same version of FFH2 and we notice an Oos every single time we play (sometime at the beginning, sometime later...). Can, please, someone explain (as you would explain to a rather dumb baby) how we could solve that damn problem????

We're going slightly mad...;)

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you

It has no solution yet ... ):
Turn gameoption "Debug: Disable events" on - this may reduce number of oos

OOS are normal, just quit (both of you) when you experience one and reload the last turn. Be sure to enable autosave every turn from the Civ4 BtS ini file. If you have up to 5 or max 10 OOS a match I think it's an acceptable deal, if you notice more than these then IMO you have network or configuration errors, which are very difficult to debug and a generic guide is unlikely to help.

What code are you changing every time? Gerikes' Guide leads up to an OOS Logger, which requires very little installation code-wise, and only needs to be done once. Then after you get an OOS you are meant to go to the log file at:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\OOSLog.txt

And use it to determine what was different in each game. Then you can let the guys who do the modding know and it helps to isolate the cause of the OOS issues.

Where is that logger? I need it for BtS to see what's going on--keep getting OOS in one game.

Search for threads started by Gerikes and you should find it. Or snag it out of FfH's folders, but you have to modify python in another file to make sure it is called at the right time, I don't remember where that was though, so finding the guide is a good idea.

the game is unplayable due to out of syn errors

the problem is probably random seed or poor ip protocol

Make sure your both on the same patch and both have the same exact game files so you can't have any mod mods or anything or else it will OOS.

Just to say that with the final version of FFh and latest patch, I managed to have a decent direct IP MP game (something like 300 turns) without a single OOS issue!

Thanks to all who worked behind it!! You guys are wonderful

I gave up playing multiplayer (LAN). Having to reload does not work most of the time and is not enough for "killing" the Out of Synchro. My playing partners and I, have found that we also need to:
1- exit Civilization
2- restart Windows (for killing tempo files and getting a new I.P. / lease)
3- reconnect if possible in the order we first did: the "player/server first", then other players
- Avoid whenever possible mixture of LAN and WAN (cables and wireless): Direct Cat5cables are best.
- BEFORE running the game, unload all memory resident programs (in the tray), and be sure nothing is scheduled during your game! (ex:
- disconnect your LAN from Internet, or ask your co players to desable their internet connection.
- trust your friends, because it is also better NOT to use a firewall and an anti-virus software, especially McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, Nod32 (in their "full" internet version) as they can seriously interfere with the network flow.

Unfortunately, this consumes a lot of time, and the OOS, once started, tends to come back a few turns later.

During the last year and a half, we tried from time to time with all versions. 1.5 years later, and after perhaps 30 (long) tries, we have declared Civ4/BTS/FFH2 unplayable for long games.
We also experienced sometimes ago OOS with the vanilla Civ4. The mod FFH2 being another layer on top of it, I am afraid the FFH team can do little as they have to use the Civ/BTS core, thus just increasing the already existing probability of getting an OOS...

I play multiplayer games almost daily and rarely have any issues that can't be sorted out easily.
