Multiple Rulers per Civ

In CIV 2 every CIV had 2 rulers: one female ruler and one male ruler. I was dissappointed that the same was not true for CIV 3 and so I hope it will be true for CIV 4 because some of us like to choose the gender of our CIVs.... Maybe you can have more than just 2 rulers also? I realize this is alot of work to make the leader heads, so how about just providing the option for Modders to add multiple leader heads for each civ?

And, maybe different rulers would provide different strengths/weaknesses for their CIV? Like Catherine the great and Joseph Stalin could each offer different traits for the Russians.

What female ruler do you use for Germany? For the Aztecs? For the Zulus?

I think having 2 rulers with different traits is fine, however, I don't think requiring one to be male and one to be female is the right way to do it.

It was done in Civ 2 so there is no reason it could not be done in Civ 4. Germany, Aztecs, Zulu, and all the others, did have female rulers.

So you would rather have some made up leader for Germany, than Frederick the Great and Bismarck? Or some made-up American leader instead of Franklin Roosevelt and George Washington?

I think female rulers is a nice goal but not a necessity.

Multiple leaders with multiple trait combinations is a neat idea I'd like to see pursued.

Again, are we talking about Caesar's Rome, Medici's Rome, or Mussolini's Rome?

Joan of Arc was never a real ruler. We are talking about leaders of Civs, not leaders of nations. If Joan of Arc can be a leader of the French civilization, why can't Eleanor Roosevelt be the leader of the Americans? Or Susan B. Anthony? And as for the Germans, there are tons of famous females.

Maybe a Civ's traits should actually be it's ruler's traits? Or maybe that's too much...

Perhaps one trait should be decided by your Civ, ant the second by the leader you choose. Of 2 for the Civ and 1 from the leader if they decide to go with 3.

I figure different pairs entirely wouldn't be too harmful. Most of the time it probably would be consistent, that Nasser and Cleopatra would both be religious in their own right. I think you'd see some consistency emerge naturally. And even if it didn't, it wouldn't tear the whole game apart.

Anyone ever played the game Tropico? You could pick your ruler or create a ruler with a set of bonuses/maluses. It was simple things, like requiring more maintenance on certain structures or making some workers more effective and so forth.

That idea I brought along some time ago, and then everybody agreed with me. After a little while, a thread like this emerged and I pointed out that I had this idea some time ago, and again everyone agreed that this is a good idea.

So, I think, the fact that this idea pops up every once in a while shows that this is really a idea that needs to be in civ4. Should we write to Firaxis (I know they 'read' forums, but this way, we can emphasize this)?

PS: To show you I'll search the old traits...

Firstly, what should this smilie express? (I always wanted to ask this?)
and Secondly, No, I wouldn't do that. It's not our work to do the details and I don't think the guys would appreciate this, do you? (and besides, we don't know the civs of civ4, do we?)
But of course, there's something that needs to be considered when creating such a list (with traits per leader): women are to be preffered over male leaders. (Best would be to get a 2 : 1 (male : female) ratio on all leaders, (in my modele, there we have 3 leaders per civ)

Teabeard has an excellent idea, if several leaders per civ were to be implemented i would like to see it done in this fashion (it is also similar to your wizard bonuses/penalties in Age of Wonder 2)

Nice idea. I can think of several already. The more I think about it the more I think mitsho's 2:1 is good. For example, France could be Joan, Louis the XIV (I think?), and Napoleon. Russia, maybe Catherine, Peter the Great, and Stalin/Lenin.

Bah... no ratios.

Pick 2 leaders, male or female. I don't want to see Susan B. Anthony as a US "leader."

The problem I have with a system like this is it is highly likely that there would end up being one or two traits that everyone always used, limiting the amount of variety in the game. You could argue people would choose different tarits for variety, but I've always found very difficult to give up the most advantageous options (and there are always some) simply to have variety.

Well, a leader of each gender is nice. Germans had Maria Theresa in Civ II.

Although it'd have to end up using local religious figures ala Civ II (Sherzenade of Persia, anyone?) it was still a nice nod in that direction.
