King Edward X sat in silence. It was a habit of his to spend some time alone as the day died, sipping his tea and thinking upon the events of recent days. And there had been many recently. The death of the Emperor of Mann, the religious disputes of Europe and the territorial disputes of the Americas. The world, it seemed, was in chaos. Not a pleasant thought.
But there were advantages after all. These squabbles were far away, of little relevance to the kingdom he ruled, the people he protected. He did not need to take sides, there would be no loss to simply sit out what ripples reached the islands on which he had made his home. Indeed, much of parliment seemed to share the view that there was no conflict more simple than that which means nothing.
The king sighed. Perhaps the disputes did mean nothing to him, but the world was decided by the nations within it. The ever-changing web of politics and diplomacy was even more fragile outside of his kingdom than it was within, and to ignore it seemed like to be the height of folly. But would it be greater folly to become involved was the question that haunted his mind.
Edward drained away the last of his tea, and stood. He was almost 50 years of age, and although in office for only four short years he had a lifetime of political experiance behind him. He knew that to intervene would require a change; not to the situation without, but the one within. Even should he have suddenly become convinced that the time was right to pick sides, parliment was not. And parliment controlled the budget.
He could not help but wonder, as he headed to his bed, that perhaps he should be thinking of changing that instead.
To the United Kingdom of New Zealand
Our ports will always be open to you, we look forward to long term trade between our nations. We know of your past and your flight from England to New Zealand. If you ever wish to embrace immortality so that there is less risk to your royal bloodline you need only ever ask.
We know many mortal royals revere their lines of descent and inheritors, for bringing new strength to the country. But we merely thought to offer.
Signed in Blood and honour,
Raziel, Heir to the Immortal Throne
To the Blood Empire
Much as we appreciate the goodwill behind your offer, we are afraid that we do not deem it the most prudent course of action at the current time.
Signed in honour, but not blood I'm afraid,
King
Edward X
The Republic of Shanghai has been declared. The values of democracy, responsible government, and nationalism are to be enshrined. The blind loyalty to the Papacy is hereby discontinued; while good relations will still be sought with the Holy See, it is to be treated as another state and not the arbiter of morality that it once was.
OOC: Kinich has dropped due to lack of interest. Jung has ruptured.
[Rush to claim position of CHinese Emperor]
The UKNZ is happy to see the Shanghians have embraced democracy, and even more so that they recognise the wisdom of not thoughtlessly executing their former monarchs.
The UKNZ has also declared that it shall treat each of the new 'Emperors of China' much as we did before their rise to Imperial status, in hopes of avoiding becoming embroiled in a regional dispute over the identity of the 'true' Emperor.
We warn Romney to not mess with Far Eastern matters as he does not want anybody to mess with West African matters.
The UKNZ echoes this statement. We are sure Romney is familiar with the old advice to treat others as he wishes to be treated himself, and advise him to consider it in his dealings.
We convert to Catholicism, as we udnerstand that the early christian communities and the teachings of Jesus Christ were communist and Marx was send by God to complete jesus holy mission.
Christians across the UKNZ are said to have facepalmed at this statement. Even the communist Christians are said to be wary of this remark, although their relatively small numbers makes this hard to judge.
