By and large, they'll have a tough job beating the wonderful music in Civ IV, with the exception of the music for the Modern Age. Please, oh please, no more John Adams! There are all kinds of other stuff to use, including jazz music.

Agreed. I think for modern music I'd like to see (hear, actually) Prokofiev, Shostakovitch, Sibelius, Vaughn Williams.

I liked the modern music from Civ3. It was still kind of easy on the ears, but still very modern and cool.

If they have any care for the game then the music will be at least comparable to the music in civ4. Hard to beat the menu music though. Can't wait.

vanilaa civ 4 menu music should be piped everywhere in civ 5, meet a leader "baba yetu yetu leh ehh!"

come on, do it!

I think exposing players to an already aging tune so much that they get sick of it and never want to hear it again, is the last thing they want to do.

I'd like it if every civ had their own war song, along with their normal song. For example (and to get the giant elephant out of the room), Germany could have "Ride of the Valkyries". "Star Spangled Banner" could be America's (It's probably the most violent national anthem in the world, with only France as a true competitor), and the Aztecs could have "El Duegolo (Yes, it's Moorish, but the Mexicans used it as a war song, and we don't have much actual Aztec music).

Actually, I think what would be really cool is if each social policy had its own music (one track for each age), and played a soundtrack consisting of 10 songs based on which 10 policies you were running, to accurately reflect the unique culture of your civilization. If (in the modern age) your policies were mostly focused toward a liberal, culture-driven, environmentally friendly society, you would have a soundtrack consisting of 60s-70s rock. But if you were instead a communist, production-driven, warlike state, you would instead have a soundtrack consisting of nothing but John Adams.

I'd like to see the works of modern composers like George Gershwin, Frank Ticheli, Eric Whitacre, and Mark Camphouse, along with other World composers. And yes, Shostakovich and Sibelius, while technically of the late Romantic period, would fall into the modern age of Civ, and are excellent choices.
Modern "Pop" or "Rock" music is a No. Just a No. It's not something good for just listening to in the background, and, besides, is too controversial. If they include the Beatles, what will fans of the Rolling Stones think? If they include Slipknot, how will fans of Green Day feel? If they include Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers, then most of their audience will play the modern age with the sound off. But I can't see anyone having much of a beef over, say, Rhapsody in Blue, Shenandoah, Godzilla Eats Las Vegas! or one of Shostakovich's Symphonies playing in the background.

they cant play moderncomposers music because everytime a player heard it nin the game firxasis would have to pay them $1

Says you. If your empire is set up to be all about free love and all that crap, it's the perfect music to set it to.

I was actually thinking they could make their own and simulate the feel of bands from that era.

If they include Slipknot, how will fans of Green Day feel?

Uh, that's not 60s-70s.

You're employing the slippery slope argument, aren't you?

Oh, was I? It wasn't intentional, I was just expressing my dislike for the Disney cookie-cutter pop stars.

Yes, but the modern era did not end after the 60s and 70s.

And yet they played the music of modern composers in Civ4. That's not how it works.

I think current day composers would be great. I'd love to see them commission some work from the likes of James Horner, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer etc. I think they do some absolutely fabulous work when it comes to movie soundtracks

I would like to see them use some awesome electornic ambience for future tech age, enigma ulrich schnauss. maybe tangerine dream could do some music for them!

Hans Zimmer would be dope, but I don't see firaxis putting up the dollars.

those nerds over at firaxis don't know nothing about today's music. lol :)
