Music of Civ VI

I always hoped Morocco's theme might emulate the King's Quest VI soundtrack. Maybe give it a bit of character. That's the game that first engendered my interest in Moorish civilization.

There's a less-Midi version of this track somewhere on the Internet, but this one will have to do for now.

It's an instrument I've always hated, not to mention it's cousin the marimba (which, come to think of it, is probably the actual instrument used in Morocco's themes). :p

Hmm, that got me thinking. I really want a civ whose theme is dominated by piano or harpsichord...

As someone who plays those two instruments, I have to wonder why you dislike them

Hard to put exactly into words, but I guess I would say they sound very cheerful.

Georgian Industrial theme!

Sniffs! It's so beautiful!

I can picture myself hearing this music after walking into a Georgian church.

Must admit, I like the more generic indian/american indian/monte musics, not so keen on the more orchestral stuff, I guess I've heard it all before for decades where as the more "lesser style" can't think of the word to use.. of music, isn't really something I'd normally listen to.. like Whale song for example.. that entrances me atm.

Scotland better have an awesome bagpipe theme.

Scotland the Brave perhaps, or Scots Wha Hae?

Here's a great medley of Scotland the Brave followed by the Black Bear, complete with shouting.

I usually play with music off, but I tried enabling it yesterday. I had assumed that you would hear Russian music when playing as Russia, etc, But I was rather surprised to hear "Waltzing Matilda". It seems you hear themes from all the nations in the game.

Fun fact: the tune of "Waltzing Matilda" dates back to the War of the Spanish Succession.

Some clever detective work on Youtube (BigAsylum on Peaches Lamb's video) has found what Mongolia's theme is based on
Here's some info I found about it online: "Mu Ge," translated as "Pastoral" or "The Shepherd's Song" in English, is an inner Mongolian folk song that has been rearranged extensively for choir, orchestra, cello/piano (like the video above), etc.

Apparently there are lyrics to it as well:
White clouds floating in the sky,
Beneath, flocks of sheep grazing on the grassland,
Like silvery spots dotting the prairie,
How lovely is the scene.

Mongolia's theme is probably a combination of this song and the Long Song (on a Silk Road Journeys CD) which inspired their themes in Civ5.

Indeed. There's a Silk Road track that matches the Civ V and VII (second half) themes almost exactly, though it does also have a bit of Bor Boriin Bylzuuhai in there too (the Silk Road track was probably a unique rendition of the same).

So the Civ VI Scottish theme inspiration/source--anyone have a link to a good rendition with bagpipes?

perhaps this one?

I'm wondering if I should contact Geoff Knorr about the inspirations for the Cree themes. The Poundmaker Singers probably chose which Cree songs to use, but maybe he (Knorr) recorded their names?

What we hear in the First Look really is a pretty bread-and-butter setting unfortunately, that I'm sure is familiar to anyone who has ever heard a Scottish Pipe and Drum band play. I look forward to the First Listen so we can hear a bit more orchestration and how it progress through the eras.

I really hope there's some more Scottish folk in the soundtrack - some jigs and reels would set things off rather nicely.

Thanks! Would definitely be great to see if the Poundmaker singers did a particular song. Would open up Cree musical traditions to a wider audience.
