Music to Conquer the World By

I'd listen to any of the intense Beethoven symphonies (5th comes to mind). Anything from Wagner's Gotterdamerung would be good, as would, in a perverse way, Metallica, since I generally imagine explosions to be bigger than they're portrayed in the game (if at all).

I would play old Soviet songs... but the problem with that is that I usually start to sing along with them. Even though I don't really know any Russian at all.

Music for War:

Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden (particularily good for Iroq.)
No leaf clover by metallica
Welcome to the Jungle by GNR

For Victory screen:

Great Gates of Kiev by mussgorvsky (sp?)

Heh, I know what you mean. They sure knew how to write 'em!

No No. Well, not exactly. I wouldn't know what they were saying because I don't speak russian. The Soviet anthem was pretty moving. That's not what I was referring to, however.

The Russian Naval Hymn from "The Hunt For Red October" is a great example. Try downloading it off the net, and maybe you'll see what I mean. Or not.

btw, religion is founded on the basis of pure mystery eh? The knowledge of the existence of an force; filled with absolute reason and beauty. That only the most primitive of their forms are acknowledged by us? ;)

WTH are those? Communist propaganda theme songs?

Yep! We all know em!
Remember Stalin when he was a big-band jazz man?

"Tank-tracks of my tears!"
"Songs to walk thru minefields by!"
"Let's take on a tiger tank, comrades!"
"I'm forvever blowing things to bits!"

Ah! the old classics!

Anybody know Air's "Caramel Prisoner" or more importantly Pink Floyd's "Careful with that Axe Eugene". Some nice dark rythmic music.
Radiohead's masterpiece OK Computer would do as well.

There is a band from Germany called "Running Wild" who do some really cool metal/rock tunes...
Many songs with an excellent historical slant!

The do epic songs many are based around Pirates and Napoleonic subjects! With some rip-roaring guitar and military-style drums!

Not to everyone's taste, but hey! This is what I'll be playing!!!

Great for getting you in the mood for victory!!!
MAN THE CANNONS!!!

I like the idea of ride of the valkyries. Wagner, right? I can just picture loading up some marines on my helicopters, and invading the country across the sea, playing it a la Apocalypse Now. MMMM. Seriously, though, C3 has music integration, right -- I can choose my own MP3's while playing right? I hope so, because no matter how good the Civ music is, it's not as good as the Dead.

A good political song is Symphony Of Destruction, by Megadeth. Suits Civ quite a bit...

"You take a mortal man, and put him in control. Watch him become a god..."

The rest of the song is like this. If you don't have it, go to a CD store, pick up a copy of Megadeth's 'Countdown To Extinction' and have a listen. ;)

I'll have Babylon 5 Music, Gettysburg, Last of the Mohicans, and possibly Glory soundtracks as my Music! (Insert Evil Demonic Laugh Here):D

Anyone got sites for downloading these songs?

BTW, I'll go with B5 and Russian music too.

Yankee, I'm not sure about downloading BUT I gotta agree with you and some of the earlier posters- Babylon 5's music was GOOD and I listened to it while playing (SF channel's many repeats of the show playing in the background, out of sight but with sound on!!)

Still, as Velikovsky said in his post, " ... because no matter how good the Civ music is, it's not as good as the Dead."

Wonder if Phil plays Civ? Could be.

Ancient thru Mideival Era: The soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian by Basil Pouledoris. I actually jog to this!

Industrial/Modern Times: Either WWOZ digital webcast (new orleans' jazz and heritage station) or any streaming techno/dance site.
