Mussolini... why Operation Barbarossa failed?

I dunno, I think maybe capturing Moscow- with Joe vowing to remain in the city regardless, could have bought Russia to her knees.

I agree 100%. After reading more about this invasion in the last 2 years, it amazes me how Germany thought they would just surrender. Just like how Hitler thought that bombing Britain would bring them to surrender.

No, Hitler got bored of watching the Luftwaffe throw itself at Britain, thats why he went for Russia.

If the blitz had been a success (which it very nearly was) then maybe Hitler would have ignored Russia in favour of invading Britain. But maybe not, we all know how mych ol' Adolf hated the Ruskies...

I am reading a book on Ribbentrop now and it amazes me how it was his job to make a peace with Britain and make war with Russia...that is why Hitler wanted. Instead, in 1939, he was able to make peace with Russia and war with Britain.....

The blitz was going very well for the Nazis until Adolf ordered the Luftwaffe to stop bombing airfields and radar sites.

That's not the Blitz you are talking about. It is Adlerangriff.

Oh yeah, the blitz was just the cities wasnt it? I was talking about the air attack on Britain in general.

This post needs some text.:p

Britain ony has itself to blame for alienating the Russians. They stuffed about and never made any real effort to get the Russians on side. The Brits wrote them off militarily.
But Hitler and Ribbentrop knew what they wanted and got it. I spose having half of Poland to throw into the bargain was a bit of a sweetener.

I guess the book I am reading is surprising me, because of so many first hand accounts of what Ribbentrop did WRONG. He probably could have gotten a little more out of the French and British to avoid war, but because hitler and himself wanted war, it was going to happen sooner rather than later.

Actually, Ribbentrop actually opposed Barbarossa. He actually went to the Soviet ambassador, and told him how he dissaproved of the plans.

Oh, you are right he did oppose it. However, before that he was clamoring for a war with France and Britain - saying it was going to happen sooner rather than later.
