Hello,

I have a question about my avatar. How can I change it to something else than all the defaults found on this site? Whenever I save a cool picture from the net I can never make it small enough to appear as my avatar. Do I not have the computable paint program or something like that?

Please help here.
Thanks! :)

Hmm, let's see...

Paint doesn't resize images, but there's plenty of programs that do. I think there's some free downloadable ones, but I don't know where (maybe someone else does). Do you know if you possibly have any image editing software, and if so, what?

I have the old “Imaging For Windows” but that dose not do me any good - I have tried it. :(
I also have no idea from where to download something that dose resize the graphics.

Anyone?

Try attaching this image here, and i will resize it for you.

Just make a post go down near he bottom of submit post. and click add attachment, then your hard drive will come up and just select the photo, and i will resize it for you.

Most recent windows OSs have a picture editor included, On this platform i did not even have to look for it. I just double clicked on and imaage in "my pictures" folder and it took it to the picture editor. The max size for custom atavar here is 65 by 65 pixels.

By the way, TF, that would be useful info to put into the FAQ and the change avatar form, the only place I found was in the message rejecting an avatar file as too large.

"You can give yourself a custom title once you have 30 posts. You can also put a picture, or avatar, under your name. There are hundreds of Civish avatars for you to choose from. If you have 300 or more posts, you can give yourself a custom (non-animated) avatar. The dimension limit of custom avatars is 65x65 pixels and size limit is 4 KB. You can change your title or avatar in your User CP."

you can resize in paint, use the stretch & skew option (it is tedious though)

 Thanks, didn't realize that.

Thanks TF but it is 31MB. It will take like tha whole day just to download. I will download it tonight because for the Imaging program I have now, I have to buy it in 29 days or not have it anymore. Thanks though. ;)

Darn, I widh I had DSL or something faster than this junk that I have now. :)

that costs money, irfanview is free.

I'll try that as well.
And what TF suggested has a free trial as well but for how long?

The bad thing about irfanview is that its kinda hard to crop the image, because when you do, you still have all that black matter in the way and you can't really move it easily. I usually save that and then crop it further in MGI Photosuite.

Another free option is the Gimp. http://www.gimp.org/ I haven't used it myself, but it seems to have a fairly strong following. Can't speak to the size of the download though.

I use PSP7 and MSPaint for my Avatars.

It does.

Somewhat, I've roughly done it before. Go to Image > Attributes. It'll say what the pixels are. Say 130x130. So you whip out the computer calculator and 65 (the size you want) by 130 which turns out to be 50%. So then you go to Image > Stretch/Skew and downsize it by 50%.

Yeah, I've done it with all my avatars so far. Not the Tetris one, I made that one myself, but for the pi and everything else...
