I start the Japan campain, i see barbs next to my starting location. I think barbs right next to my start is not good, so i firs attack them with my leader guy. 28 seconds.

Well, thats what can happen. What difficulty did you play on. If it were too high i wouldn't have recommended attacking. 28 second lost is not much though so the damage isn't high ;)

I can win in 2 seconds.

All you need is a customised map with only mountains. Skip your turn. All AI's see there is no place to settle and disband their units -> game over; you've won (you need to have conquest-victory turned on) and a really high score because you won so early.

Did the same - embarrassing! Must have been roughly the same time too (don´t remember).

Managed it in a 3 way PbEM as well. I had my city and then got flooded with barbs. Moved my king onto a mountain, but it didn't help. I never even got to see my opponents.

What's a leader guy? You start out with just a settler. Is that what you attacked with?

There are loads of barbarians in this scenario. It takes a long time to clear them out, particularly before you have iron. I'd recommend developing your civ and only taking on the barbs as you absolutely need to.
Use your daimyo only as a last resort. It's very tempting because he has better stats than anything else you have, but daimyos attract lots of attention. Good news is that I have yet to see the AI move a daimyo out of their capital city- makes the strat-ee-gery of what to attack real easy.

Heh, my fastest loss was in a turn or two. Anyone ever play the large world map that comes with Civ III? Well it seems every single gosh darn freakin time, South America is the place I always start off at which sucks. Anyhow, when you start out in South America, there is a small-stacked barbarian village exactly adjacent to your settler and worker.

So you either have to build your city exactly right there which you wind up losing some gold because it's ransacked, or you have to lure them away with your worker while your settler can build in a safe spot. It sucks since I prefer scouting a couple turns before placing my cities and then that worker is useless for a good amount of turns until I can run back into my city once a real unit is built.
