I'm away from the game but cannot stop thinking about it, so, I'm going to write down my favorite "moments". I hope that at least one of them makes you smile. I'm a new player so none of my moments are above the normal play level.

  1. Playing as Japan, I developed the nuclear bomb first.
  2. Exploding my second nuclear bomb was as inspiring as my first. The mushroom cloud is well drawn and I love how units melt away.
  3. As mentioned in another story, I love how the Incans beat the French with FREAKING ROCKS! hahaha
  4. The first time I realized I could instant destroy embarked troops with my ships.
  5. My first Elephant!! Shame he cant step on troops but all the same they look cool.
  6. Artillery!! My favorite piece in the game and one that I use constantly.
  7. Bombers!! Almost as good as artillery.
  8. Crossbows!! and the joy they bring to my face when they cut a tough unit to pieces.
  9. The first time I realized that my calvary could run away after attacking. LoL.
  10. The time the enemy dropped a nuke on the city I just took from him. The wind blew the fallout away from me toward him.
  11. Watching the enemies troops melt away from the Nuke he dropped!! hahah
  12. My first submarine and the joy I felt travelling under the ice.
  13. A great moment - defeating an invading army by pulling troops from my other cities and rushing them to the battleground on my newly built roads!!
  14. The first time I realized how strong the mobile infantry is. Nicccee.
  15. The Oh heck moment when I realized that the other civilizations did not attack my HEAVILY fortified island and the game ended at turn 500. Bummer.

Nice read..

Here's a couple of mine just pop into mind now:

1) I'm together with Polynesia at war against a powerful Iroquois Empire. They are next to my border and a huge battle is going on and I'm worried that I can't stand for long both militarily and economically. Polynesia is at another continent so I don't really count on their help.. then..
from corner of my lands, out of fog of war start dribbling out troops clad in Orange. The Polynesians did arrive to fight Iroquois! A real joyous moment and surprinsing one too.

2) First time seeing when English Ships of the line fire, all decks unleash the cannons and enemy troops on land are covered in shrapnel.. ouch!

3) Every time I play and start a new map, the "fresh" feeling of new lands, unknown neighbours and deeds to come.. it's the Civ feeling!

4) Settling near those Natural Wonders scattered around the world as Spain and pissing few Empires off by doing it, highly recommended. ;)

5) Kamikaze attacks with japanese heavily wounded infantry, my infantry is history but it'll decimate same much of enemies as a full unit would, actually historically pretty nice touch.

6) Sometimes when I'm cruel and it fits the Civ or style I play, I destroy enemy workers with fighters and bombers, they get smashed with only one air attack. Dresden. :(

7) My current game: I'm playing Huge Dale's Earth map as Arabia and having a small but efficient state, going to go for Commerce and Patronage and bribe all the other Civs and City-states to do my business, it's gonna be fun.

@ Haig

#3 almost brought tears to my eyes. It is sooo true! (sniff)

I just realized recently after buying C5 that longbowmen obliterate swordsmen quite nicely :) who needs an escort when you have a longbowman. slice & dice!

Oh, I have a moment that really touched me:

In my one of my first game I was England in Archipelago, and in my island, there were the bloody French. It was really fun when war started, as I was in modern era and he was in the Renaissance.

1)My 4 or 5 Ships-of-the-Line sinking with one shot their 2 triremes, and chopping their infantry.
2)Upgrading them to Destroyers and obliterate their retreating army with them.
3)Having an Artillery in the coast and bombing his cities across the straits with it... while bombing the same cities with my navy.
4)Advancing with land troops against his cities without losing a single unit due to having their cities bombed and army destroyed.

5)Their desperate attempt for peace when I was about to conquer Paris, giving away the 10 or 14 cities he had left.

EDIT: And in my last game with Arabia I had two moments when at war with Rome:
1)Annihilating Rome's huge Renaissance Era navy with my 5 subs and watching his ships running desperately for their lives.
2)Nuking Katmandu, liberating it in the next turn and watching it allying me. Awesome.

I've got two.

a) This tends to happen quite often, and it makes me giggle a bit when it happens. Usually games I have that have both Hiawatha and Washington as AIs, Hiawatha is a runaway and Washington tends to derp around. Watching the Iroquois beat up Washington's army three games in a row and take him out gave me a feeling of poetic justice.

b) This isn't really a 'moment' but while I was working on learning to do combat properly and efficiently, it seemed that most of the games I played involved me murdering Cathrine first. I ended up feeling bad for the girl, so I took a look at my most recent games, played as Russia and set those civs to AI, where I took 'em out as fast as possible. Gave her back her dignity.

I've got 2, both in my first civ game ever (civ 5)

1) wasting 60 turns trying to conquer Kathmandu with only ranged units....until I finally realized I had to use a melee unit to capture it. #fail

2) realizing that rifles were melee units (thought that they were ranged.....#fail)

oh, got more too
- when you find el dorado first....and then you just toss that game away
- when first trying out denmark's disembarkment
- B17 with logistics rush!!!!
- artillery!!!
