My first attempt at a succession game -- American Chieftan

Good idea to switch to Sistine Chapel. We really need to keep expanding our borders. It looks like we are technolgically superior to the other civs. After developing military tradition, we could launch an offensive with the calvary. Or, we could also go with a cultural victory. Has any other civ built any great wonders?

We could also go for a spaceship victory. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Which one would produce the higher score?

By the way, thanks for setting up a beginning game like this Ihmotep. I hope that I will get better at discussing and writing down my turns and start playing more successsion games.

Lets discuss our strategy! [dance]

Well I've already had a cultural and diplo victory...I wouldn't mind trying for a Space-Race victory. This means of course, we will have to be the scientific leaders throughout the game so we can get everything we need. It also means we need the intelligence agency so we can see how everyone else is doing and 'rough them up' if they start getting ahead of us...that will require a strong military. So we need to get ahead and stay there more or less :D easier said than done

er....anyone else have anything to offer strategy-wise?

Or maybe someone would like to play a few turns?

I'll play a few. I know how it feels to have a game just sit there for a few days.. :D

Preturn:
Embassies:
Aztecs - Sun Tsu in 1200 turns!
Iroquois - Oracle in 66 turns
England - ST in 76 turns
Germany - Hanging Gardens in 39 turns
Zululand - ST in 131 turns
Rome - Not much, a spear..

At best we have an average Military.. so... no war then ;)

950 AD:
We get Chivalry, start Chemistry.

960 AD:
Rush a barracks in 'die England', rush a spear in Chicago.

My turn is going to be hard on the treasury..

970 AD:
New York builds Sistine!

980 AD:
Zzzzz

990 AD:
Rush a temple in Die England. Told ya.. ;)

1000 AD:
Zzzzz

1010 AD:
Iroquois want to trade Wmap for Engineering and 80 gold from us.. No I don't think so.
I found Seattle.

1020 AD:
Zzzz

1030 AD:
A barb horse attacks and dies in Jungle town.

1040 AD:
Zzzz

1050 AD:
Another horsie attack, same result.

1060 AD:
We learn Chemistry, start Education. The GL isnt helping us anyway..

1070 AD:
Zzzzz

1080 AD:
New York builds a settler.

1090 AD:
Zzzz

1100 AD:
San Fransisco is settled in the jungle near Washington. I'm surprised the AI didnt grab this spot.. but then again it is Chieftain.. ;)

1110 AD:
Zzzz

1120 AD:
Zzzz

1130 AD:
Zzzz

1140 AD:
Zzzz

1150 AD:
Education completed, Banking started.. head for Smiths, and start a place holder in New York,,

Why is Fallston 1 square away from the coast? I don't mean to pick on people, but the 3 coast squares are useless for this city.. Oh well..

Same with Washington.. but the first city can't be helped. Washington needs development badly.. send a worker down there..

I built a road through the mountains by Teno.. start a settler and grab than land near Teno (the forest)..

Another potentially good site near Washington, southeast by the whale on the coast.. It is best to settle as many cities close to your palace as possible (not overlapping too much)

You can start the FP over in the west somewhere once those cities pick up a bit..

We need more.. take your pick.. the best I can think of is improve the economy and start military buildup of knights.. convert horsies to knights, then go after Aztecs..

Good luck!

Save file attached as it is small..

Chieftan is not a popular level.

I play regent / monarch.

Most play at least warlord.
All games will require a bump on occasion.

Unexpected occurence that required me to leave the computer immediately (I hate my parents)

I didn't get to play it yet, so it is still open

I'm taking the Practice ACT now so I might get to it later tonight

Plus the title of your thread isn't too clear that it's an open game :p

I keep on meaning to take it, but I never get around to it :crazyeye:

well if its open, I'll play it but I don't have enough free time to join a closed one.

btw I did good on my practice ACT

EX2 is open.. so help yourself. It's Regent and a Huge map..

ewww....regent?

I'm ready for Warlord at the highest...I dont know about regent

Pre turn - President Ihmotep is elected for a 140 year reign...starting at 1160 and ending at 1300. He sees that there is still miles of jungle to clear...what a bad location we've had. Fallston can't grow until all the jungle around it is cleared.

1 (1160 AD) - Liz inquires if we would be willing to give her Chivalry and 2 bags of gold for her world map. We politely tell her to shove it.

2 (1170 AD) - Atlanta Expands Its borders and workers move around a bit

3 (1180 AD) - 2 men in Boston decide to spread the glory of the Americans to other regions and start getting packed for their journey.

4 (1190 AD) - Curses...a boastful Iriquois settler guarded by a pikeman is in our spot for next settlement. No fear, they will find our culture too irrisistable and shall eventually join us.

5 (1200 AD) - As I thought, they settle on the peninsula. New York starts on Sun Tzu's art of War. Seatle starts building a great galley.

6 (1210 AD) - Almost choke on a pretzel.

7 (1220 AD) - Make a house of cards

8 (1230 AD) - House of cards falls down, Servent Executed.

9 (1240 AD) - Monty thinks Education is worth Contact with Persia. We tell him to s-h-o-v-e it [punch]

10 (1250 AD) - I write a novel :p

11 (1255 AD) - Diamond City starts a Courthouse :hammer:

12 (1260 AD) - Hanging Gardens Finished in Washington [dance]. Washington goes ahead and starts a courthouse. Baltimore finishes temple and starts a swordsman

13 (1265 AD) WLTPD Celebrated in 2 cities. Philly starts a courthouse.

14 (1270 AD) - Atlanta starts a Pikeman and Fallston starts walls

15 (1275 AD) - Our glorious Soccer team takes the world cup

16 (1280 AD) - A few more WLTPD celebrated. Miami settled (yes it overlaps alot but I don't want that Iriquois city to expand onto more of our land). Miami starts to train a spearman.

17 (1285 AD) - Baltimore expands. Hiawatha thinks that his godly world map is worth ours plus invention + 100 gold. We tell him to check his math.

18 (1290 AD) - Fallston Expands

19 (1295 AD) - Seattle starts a Temple

20 (1300 AD) - I start moving workers towards Fallston to improve it. Next leader should continue moving them. Ihmotep is shot by the grandson of the unemployed actor that shot Ihmotep's grandfather. :shottie:

Notes for next leader: I think our best bet for Forbidden Palace is Die England. Tell me what you think. Need to get rid of the jungle around Jungle-town and Fallston

Well, its not too bad, you just have to beware because the AI is much more agressive.. In Chieftain you get used to being able to push all the AI civs around, and you are always the tech leader, but in Regent and higher it is tougher.. They are out for blood, expand more agressively and are less forgiving of your 'transgressions'. I played a few whole Chieftain games (some of my first) and only got into wars when I wanted to.. AI never declared war..

I haven't played Monarch yet, except for a few turns in a succession game. I chuckle when I see some of those RBD group players calling Monarch the 'easiest' level..

:crazyeye:

Thats what's nice about succession games, you are only playing 10-20 turns, so jumping into a game thats beyond your current playing level is not so much of a big deal.. I started playing Regent in some of the LK series and just got used to it.. Now I wouldn't play a whole chieftain game by myself (although I dont mind grabbing the occasional C/W open game)

Once you've played a few times at a higher level you develop new strategies.. besides, once you reach a certain point in the game, you are the most powerful CIV and can coast from there at any level.

It's actually 'easier' to play on higher levels in some respects, for instance tech trading.. at Chieftain the AI doesnt trade between themselves.. You are basically the tech leader the whole game and are researching at first-civ prices. I tried to get to the end of the tech tree and couldn't before running out of time (or winning by culture.) Look at some of the Deity SGs on the board.. those guys got UN/Space victories in 1000AD! No way you can do that at lower levels.. The catch there is you have to survive that long..

It just makes for a very different game, the higher up you go in levels.

ACT is a test that the colleges look at...basically if I get a good score (22+) then I'll have MUCH better luck getting into a college than if I got a bad score (21-).

After completing the practice test last night, I tabulated my score and it said I had a 28 so I think I'm in pretty good shape (except for trig  )

I'll give this one a try. Normally play higher levels, but since this is my first succession game, I better start on chieftain, so I can't screw anything up real bad...:)
