My first attempt at a succession game -- American Chieftan

Preturn: Optimize cities.

Washington - Maxed out at size 12, so moved citizen from grassland to silk jungle tile. (We don't need the extra food, and huge commerce bonus!)
Also, changed production from courthouse to marketplace, having the marketplace is more beneficial in the capital then regaining the 2 lost gold.
New York - Maxed at size 6. Move citizen from plain to mined hill, adding 2 shields, 1 gold. Sun Tzu's now takes 31 turns, rather than 36.
Would have been nice to rush buy an aquaduct prior to building this wonder.
Boston - Moved citizen from unimproved grassland to mined grassland, resulting in 3 more gold.
Atlanta - Maxed at size 6, moved citizen from plain to hill to generate 2 more shields.
Fallston - changed production from walls to worker to help clear all this jungle.
Die England - Changed production to Library. Need more cultural push on nearby cities. This would be a good location for Forbidden Palace but I can't imagine waiting 175 turns to manually build it. Maybe if we get a great Leader (not on my turn).

Now, the weak mortals that exist on this planet will have to pay to survive! Time for the AI to pay tribute for once.

Aztecs give us contact with Persia and world map in exhange for 10 gold.
Germany gives us 11 gold and world map.
Zulu gives us 15 gold, world map and the city of Ngome!!!
Rename Ngome to Fort Bamspeedy. This will hopefully be a future military base.
Fort Bamspeedy begins construction of spearman.
We now have a city on the Roman continent.
Iroquios gives us 9 gold and world map.
England gives us 20 gold and world map.
Rome gives us 4 gold and world map.
Persia refuses peace offer, so must surrender our world map to prevent war.

Establish Embassy in Persia - 1 turn left for them to complete Oracle.

Sold ROP to:
Aztecs for 81 gold.
England for 5 gold.
Zululand for 16 gold.
Noboby else had anything to offer, Persia has larger territory, so they won't pay for a ROP.

Went on back through the AI's selling off our most updated world map, netting 8 gold.
Rush built Library in Die England. We need more culture pressure on England's cities.
Upgrade warrior in Philadelphia.

1305 A.D.
We learn Physics, begin on Metallurgy (9 turns).
Die England finishes Library, starts on worker.
Persia finishes Oracle.
Workers prepare to clear jungle near Fallston.

1310 A.D.
Chicago completes Temple, starts on worker.

1315 A.D.
Worker completes road between Diamond city and Baltimore, goes to clear forest.
Rush Buy granary in Jungle town.

1320 A.D.
Boston completes courthouse. Starts on Knight (we can upgrade knights later to cavalry).
Jungle town completes granary, starts on worker.

1325 A.D.
Jungle Town completes worker, starts on walls.
San Francisco completes temple, starts on granary.

1330 A.D.
Disease strikes Washington. Oh well, we only lost the entertainer.
Diamond city completes courthouse, starts on Knight. WLTP day celebrated in a couple cities. Die England and Chicago have their borders
expanded!
Workers clear some jungle and build mine near fallston.

1335 A.D. Chicago finishes worker, starts on courthouse.
Forest cleared near Diamond city, will irrigate, thus allowing one more citizen, that will work the mountains.

1340 A.D. zzzzzzzzz......

1345 A.D. Washington completes marketplace! A nice little boom to our economy, almost doubling our net incom/turn.
Starts work on knight.
Jungle town completes worker, begins work on spearman.
San Fracisco's border expands.
Disease strikes Washington, again.

1350 A.D. Wow, uncovered a bonus grassland from clearing jungle on second try! Bonus for Fallston.
Only 1 turn away from Metallurgy, able to crank science down to 10% this turn and still get the tech next turn.
Make +102 gold this turn.

1355 A.D. Learn Metallurgy, begin on Military Tradition (11 turns). Great wall obsolete now. Die England completes worker,
begins work on Pikeman.

1360 A.D. Baltimore completes swordsmen, starts on courthouse.
Move swordsman over to Chicago.
Disease strikes Washington, again.

1365 A.D. Atlanta completes Aqueduct, starts courthouse.
Hurry production of courthouse in Philadelphia.

1370 A.D. Philadelphia completes courthouse, starts on harbor. We need harbors!
Upgrade warrior in Die England.

1375 A.D. Boston completes knight, begins another one. Fallston completes walls, starts courthouse.
Just realize, that we have no saltpepper! Change production of Chicago to settler, rush it, and get a city up north
by one of the unclaimed saltpeppers. The spot between Birmingham and Leeds looks great! We'll get the wine
and by culture we should grab the saltpepper. Save up some money so we can rush buy a temple and library
when we get a city there (rush after one turn of starting construction cuts price in half), and so we can upgrade
all the knights to cavalry. We'll also need to send some workers building a road up there. Or we could settle a second city around there that has a harbor.

1380 A.D. Diamond City builds Knight, starts on Library.
Chicago builds settler, back to building courthouse.
Miami builds Spearman, starts on temple. One knight will escort settler to new city up North, other one will
end up in Chicago.

1385 A.D. zzzzzzz.....

1390 A.D. New York's culture borders expand.
Shaka offers to exchange territory maps, we counter with trading world maps and giving them 10 gold.

1395 A.D. Ceaser offers to trade world maps. We counter by making him pay an additional 5 gold in exchange for our superior maps.
Washington completes Knight, starts on Library. Jungle town's borders expand.
Brighton Flips to us!! Promptly rename it Bamspeedyville. We get a free pikeman from the flip. Bamspeedyville
begins work on walls.
Completed knight heads to San Francisco, we only have a single warrior there.

1400 A.D.
Fort Bamspeedy finishes construction of Spearman, begins construction of worker.
Seattle finishes Temple, starts on courthouse.

BAD NEWS
London finishes Sun Tzu's Art of War!! They beat us by 11 turns. We really should have rushed that
aqueduct in New York, before.
Switched production in New York to Leonardo's (11 turns). We could get Copernicus's Observatory, but would waste 52 shields.

Next President must decide if we want the science output or the cheap upgrades.
Baltimore is not growing, but after the plain is irrigated, decide if you want to keep working the mountain and limit
growth, or work the plain to allow growth, but lose the shields and gold from the gem mountain.

Peace treaties and ROP should be expiring on this turn. So next president can decide to renew them or not. Might need to keep ROP with Aztecs, so the settler/knight duo will make it to the saltpepper.

Preturn- Moved veteran knight from Chicago up in order to launch an attack upon Teotihuacan.

1405 AD - Irrigated land east of Washington in order to produce more growth. Changed production in Baltimore to Forbidden Palace. We may be able to get more cash by building the palace there. Sent Knight from San Francisco up to Teotihuacan. Military Tradition is completed and we begin to research Banking. The People Love Me! I build another level to the palace.

1410 AD – Move workers east in order to build a road to Jungle Town. It looks like a better and better option to attack the Aztecs. I demand a 43 Gold Tribute from them. The give it to us! Ha Ha!

1415 AD – Workers build more roads near the Fallston region trying to connect Jungle Town. I begin to build some mines near Baltimore to try to make production on the Forbidden Palace Faster.

1420 AD – Workers build more road. Upgraded a horseman to a knight. San Francisco completed its Granary. We begin to produce a barracks.

1425 AD – Knight is moved near Teotihuacan in order to attack later on. There are many good resources near the Aztec cities. Wines, our people will love them. We need our superior forces to attack soon! Irrigate land near Die England. The Beatles’ Town is built near the saltpeter resource north of the Aztecs. We rush a spearman for 120 gold. Boston builds a knight and begins a granary. The Beatles’ Town builds its rushed spearman and begins a temple.

1430 AD – Spearman fortified in The Beatles’ Town. More jungle cleared in the east. Our knights are almost in position for an attack on the Aztecs.

1435 AD – We will attack the Aztecs next turn. Lets hope for the best. More road building over some mountains to Jungle Town. Germans offer a trade of Territory Maps. We refuse, but offer a Territory map for his Territory Map and 1 gold. LOL! Atlanta produces a courthouse and begins work on a granary.

1440 AD – More road building and Jungle clearing to the east. We attack Teotihuacan. Our first veteran knight loses all but one point, and then retreats inflicting two points of damage on the elite spearman fortified in Teotihuacan. The next knight loses two points, but kills a regular spearman fortified in the city. The next knight defeats the elite spearman with three points left, and we take Teotihuacan. We rush a spearman for 160 gold and fortify the knight in order to gain its points back. (Is there another word for the damage points?) We send a knight up to Tlaxcala, and rename Teotihuacan to Doh! Because of the horrible time I am having spelling Teotihuacan. Our ROP with the Zulus and England ends. We finish researching banking and begin the printing press and hopefully we can get to democracy before my turn is up. Washington produces a libary and we start on knight. Diamond city begins to produce a granary. Doh! Produces its spearman, and we begin to produce a temple. Jungle Town produces a spearman, and we begin to build a barracks. (Long Turn!)

1445 AD – Spearman is fortified in Jungle Town and three nights rest in order to gain back damage points. Spearman is fortified in Doh!. Knight attacks Tlaxcala and defeats an Impi, I think, and destroys the city. We switch production in Seattle to settler in order to move into that space. Knight loses all but one point. Three more Aztec cities to destroy! Knight gets closer to Tlatelolco. Philadelphia produces a harbor and begins a library. Civil Disorder in Doh! Fort Bamspeedy produces a worker (I didn’t even know that a city was up there. We begin production of a temple. Seattle produces its settler and begins a barracks. Miami is now connected to Jungle Town, we only need to connect Jungle Town to Fallston. Settler is sent north. More rest for the knights. We attack a Jaguar Warrior with a knight. The Jaguar warrior is trying to attack Bamspeedyville. Our knight defeats the Jaguar Warrior but loses two points delaying the attack on Tlaxcala. Begin sending workers to build a road to Doh! We can also garb the wine resource up there and also connect The Beatles’ Town. Now that I look it looks like some English workers are building us some roads up by The Beatles’ Town. It must be the name of the city! I’ll post a screenshot. LEANARDO’S WORKSHOP is completed in New York. We begin to build Copernicus’ Obeservatory.

1450 AD – More movement of workers that I have described above. We send two knights to go and destroy the Aztecs. We don’t want Doh! To go back to Aztec rule. Knight attacks Tlatelolco and kills one knight there.

1455 AD - More worker jobs. Mining near Baltimore. Clearing of forests. Printing Presses are completed and we begin to research Democracy.

1460 AD – Snooze. More misc. worker jobs and movement of knights to Tlatelolco

1465 AD - More Misc. worker jobs to the east. Knight captures Tlatelolco. We rename the city to Lakeville. We get a load of workers that will help to build the road to the wines. We kill a spearman to the north of Lakeville and kill the settler there. Gain two more workers. Lakeville begins to produce a temple. W ebuilt a city north of Doh! Called “What A Stupid Name”. It begins to produce a barracks. Boston produces a granary and begins to produce a bank. The Germans produce Copernicus’ Observatory.

1470 AD – Finally. A road to Jungle Town and Miami is completed. Our knight attacks Tecoco, and defeats the regular spearman in the city. We rename the city to Die Aztecs Hehehe.

1475 AD – Production in New York is switched to Univrsity after the Germans built Copernicus’s Observitory. More worker jobs. Knights are move to go defeat the Aztecs.

1480 AD – Die Aztecs is connected to the rest of our cities. Knight is fortified in Die Aztecs. The Aztecs offer a Peace Treaty and we refuse. They only have 15 gold anyway, and I don’t want to ruin our reputation when we go and kick there arses. Diamond City produces a granary and begins a bank. The citizens of Akwesasne revolt against their oppressors, and we gain their city!

1485 AD – We change the name of our newly captured city to Duke. We attack Tenochtitilan with a damaged knight. We capture the city and install a new governor! Production is changed to barracks and THE AZTECS ARE DESTROYED! Atlanta produces a Granary and begins a library. Fallston produces a courthouse and begins a barracks. The people love me. Those trees look good on my beautiful castle.

1490 AD - More misc. worker movements. Road is completed to Doh! Two knights are fortified in Tenochtitilan and the name is changed to South Pacific. New York’s production is changed from University to Aqueduct. Bamspeedyville produce walls and production on a temple begins. San Francisco Produces barracks and begins on a marketplace.

1495 AD – Snooze. More worker movements and fortified a knight in San Francisco. Democracy is discovered and our Alchemists begin to research Magnetism. We revolt to change our system of government to Democracy.

1500 AD – Last Turn!!! Snooze. More worker movements!

Note to next player… Keep developing our cities and get the saltpeter near The Beatles’ Town. Expand the borders of Doh! In order to get the wine in our borders. We are in Anarchy right now, but change to Democracy when you get out. Please try to increase production near Baltimore.

Here is the screenshot of the English Workers building roads near The Beatles' Town.

I don't know if this trick would work..but I'm thinking it might.

We build the Forbidden Palace in Washington, right? That sounds horrible obviously.

Then we build the regular Palace in the city closest to washington cause obviously it won't take many turns. We do this again with the city closest to the new Capital (or as far away as we can get until it costs too much). We keep doing this until the capital is near Baltimore or Die England. That way we aren't stuck with a bad place for the Forbidden Palace later on in the game..its in the original capital

Comments? Arguments?

This could cost 10000 shields to keep moving it -
I doubt that is generate that much savings in corruption to justify the extreme shield cost.

You can't build the forbidden palace in your capital, anyways. And yes, it would be an extreme shield cost to keep moving it.

Um, baseballtwin, I hope you did cancel the ROP with the Aztecs before attacking. Otherwise, our reputation is screwed. If that's the case, get all those knights upgraded to cavalry and start killing everyone. (Ok, maybe not).

The next question, is should we start another war? And who should we attack? Or do we just keep building infrastructure? Iroquis looks like a good target, since they are somewhat close to our capital, the corruption in those cities won't be too bad. Do the Iroquious have any wonders/luxuries/resources we could use? Make sure all cities are adequetely defended before deciding on another offensive. Upgrade all the knights, Cavalry are much more effective.

Lets take the old Aztec territory and cancel the FP. Then we can move it a little farther out than Baltimore

1505 A.D. Anarchy. Workers start on connecting saltpepper.

1510 A.D. Still in anarchy.

Long turn coming up:

1515 A.D. The people of America finally gets the revolt under control and establishes a new form of government called 'democracy'. The first president voted for in this new democracy is a man called Bamspeedy. The German city of Munich finds this new form of government extremely appealing and joins the democracy instantaneously.
The formerly oppressed people from Munich, that we have liberated has given us control over a band of spearman to use against their former leader, Bismark.
Promptly rename Munich to "I can't spell Iroqious". I can't spell Iroqious begins temple.
Our new Democracy decides to re-negotiate peace with Germany (via the 'active' option in the diplomacy screen).
If Germany will not give into our demands, we will align the world together to crush Germany's 5 cities.
Germany gives us Music Theory, World map and 6 gold.
Re-negotiate peace with all others for these results: (I don't plan on attacking during my turn)
Zululand: World Map (they don't have anything else)
iroqious: World map, 9 gold
Rome: World map, 21 gold
England World map, 9 gold
Persia World map, 18 gold
Everyone's broke now, except Persia. At least we got something out of Persia, so that means we are stronger than them.

Baltimore actually looks like a good place for the forbidden palace. It won't take as long to build it as I thought. Baltimore is over 50% corrupt, and building the FP further out will result in minimal gain (compared to Baltimore's location), considering the much longer time it would take to build it.
Ok, New York doesn't really need an aquaduct, I guess. The surrounding terrian would only allow one more citizen, for 1 shield, 2 gold.
Since Miami can't grow any more, until we get a harbor, or clear some jungle, I switched the citizens from coast tiles to hill.
Since it's close to the capital the shields aren't lost to corruption/waste, so this will allow us to complete the improvements faster (5 turns for temple, instead of 14).
What a stupid name changes production of barracks to Temple, so we can attack Ngome by culture. Hey, didn't there used to be another Ngome??? :D
New York changes construction of university to JS Bach's cathedral.
Jungle town can now grow past 2!
We trade England some Silks, Gems, world map and 2 gold/turn in exchange for some of her furs. This will greatly help kick off WLTK days, and reduce waste in size 6+ cities.

1520 A.D. We Love Bamspeedy Day celebrated all over the place. Citizens in Diamond city celebrate the day like its Mardi-Gras. New Yorkers get tipsy from too much wine. Citizens in Washington add a roof to the Royal Palace. Atlanta's police department breaks up a riot after some citizens get a little too carried away when celebrating.

1525 A.D. Die England completes Pikeman. Starts on worker. Saltpepper is connected. Upgraded a bunch of units.
More need to be upgraded, but are in cities with no barracks.

1530 A.D. Persia demands we give him Printing Press or he will crush us. We tell him to go lick some sandpaper. He's mad because we don't give him that TINY request and says "you'll get what's coming to you, someday".
Baltimore's borders expand! Die England celebrates We Love Bamspeedy Day. Now that Die England is producing more than 1 shield per turn it looks like a better idea to actually build something. Switch production from worker to Courthouse. Liverpool and Dover should flip soon.

1535 A.D. Ate some pizza, and drank some pop.

1540 A.D. Falton's borders expand. Miami completes Temple, starts on courthouse. Hey, look at that! Another addition to the Royal Palace. The east wing of the palace is built. Liverpool wants to join Bamspeedy's awesome rule. Liverpool renamed Liver and Onions. We then tell English horsemen to get the heck out of 'our' territory. Workers near Die Aztecs begin clearing forests. Cleared forests will add 10 shields towards the completion of the temple.

1545 A.D. We discover Magnetism, begin on Theory of Gravity (6 turns). Barracks complete in Jungle Town, starts on courthouse. Hurry production of temple in Beatles town. With 3 AI cities right next to it, expect some flips. Irrigated plain tile in Baltimore. Join worker into Baltimore, now that we have sufficient food. Baltimore reached size 6, without having to take citizens off
the mined mountain tile to work an irrigated grassland for awhile. With size 6 city, we now will get WLTK days to help speed up production of FP.

1550 A.D. Washington completes courthouse, begins cavalry. Philadelphia completes Library, begins Cavalry. Beatles' town starts training a worker.

1555 A.D. Ceasar offers to trade World maps if we give him Printing press. We give him 1 gold instead of the tech. Fallston completes Barracks, starts on Aqueduct.

1560 A.D. Miami's borders expand. Being in Democracy really speeds up the workers, Getting terrain improvements done in no time.

1565 A.D. Atlanta finishes Library, starts on Harbor.

1570 A.D. Elizabeth wants to trade world maps. We charge her 2 extra gold for it. Seattle builds barracks, starts on courthouse. Beattles town's borders expand
Ironically, the nearby Iroquis city of Centralis also expand their borders. It's a culture war! Change production of worker to Library. Don't have cash to rush buy it now, maybe later when we get more cash. 1 turn left for Theory of gravity, crank science down to 30%, still 1 turn to go. +79 gold for this turn.

1575 A.D. Begin researching Steam power (10 turns). Railroads will help us tremendously! Chicago's borders expand. The people are so grateful to Bamspeedy that they add not one, but TWO pieces to the Royal Palace!

1580 A.D. Boston builds Bank. It gets robbed at the grand opening. Boston starts training some Cavalry to chase down those bank robbers. Fallston celebrates WLBS day.

1585 A.D. Tabloid newspaper runs an article of a possible scandal involving Bamspeedy and his secretary. Reporter for newspaper is last seen posing as a human test subject at Fort Bamspeedy.

1590 A.D. San Francisco expands it's influence.

1595 A.D. Washington trains Cavalry unit. Begins building a bank, hopefully with tighter security than Boston's bank. Diamond City builds bank. Starts training a cavalry....

1600 A.D. Surprisingly, though the people of America were quite happy during Bamspeedy's rule, he can not run for re-election. So an election is held for the second president. Bamspeedy leaves office with these words of wisdom:

Notes to next leader

We have peace treaties with everyone that will expire in 3-4 turns, check the 'active' option at the bottom of the diplomacy screen and make sure the treaties have gone past the 20 turn limit (no number before it), before attacking anyone.

We are trading furs with England, so don't attack them unless you cancel that trade agreement, first!

bottom of the diplomacy screen?

sorry if I sound like a noob but is that the screen with the other ruler's face that your talking to and where you strike up deals?

I mean the screen you go to, to make a deal with a civ. On the bottom, you can select 'active' and it shows any deals that you currently have with that particular civ.

Hi! I could play the next 20 turns - if that's OK for you guys. :-)

Hey basher you there? its been 29 hours since you posted. You only have 7 more hours before someone else can grab it:eek:

I apologize, my Pharaoh, but that's impossible since I posted my comment yesterday, at 09:18 AM GMT: please have a look.

Apr 16, 2002 11:18 AM
... and that's Finnish time (GMT +2) so I still have time to play.
I would like to play faster though but I'm at work, you know...

Hi, here's the game... I was really really busy which I hadn't planned and could only play from 1605 AD till 1660 AD. I got something done, but I had much bigger plans... Here's the savegame anyway... Maybe next time...

Here's the President's diary from 1600 AD to 1660 AD too.
