Change his diet

If he cuts down on sugary drinks (and snacks)that will solve most acne problems

A life without sugar is an unfulfilling life. I wouldnt go that far to never eat anything with sugar. Thats crazy.

1- what wash is best?

No wash - I find the acne gets worse when I do wash, so I just don't do it.

2- how often do you wash?

Never.

3- even if acne goes away, do you still wash your face?

No because the not washing of the face is causing it to go away.

4- When does acne naturally go away?

Depends if you are talking about backne, face acne, or ass acne. I assume backne and ass acne never goes away.

5- is acne really influenced by eating?

Not unless you smear grease on your face while eating.

Tell your friend to increase their overrall fluid intake. This is in general very good for the skin anyway, but can do wonders against pimples. I never actually had acne myself, but I did have some wannabe moments on my back during puberty. The simple act of drinking a bit more than the USDA reccomended daily fluid intake (mostly water) really cleared it up. Whatever scarring I had back there cleared up as well, although that took a few years.

I have the feeling that I get more spots on my back when eating chips. I have about as many spots there as I've had the last ten years or something.

First of the studies I have seen show that diet has little to do with acne. Also washing the face once or twice a day is go, however only lightly wash off the oils as heavy scrubbing will increase breakout. Finally my doctor put me on antibiotics (tetracycaline iirc) which helped a great deal.

All the advice I just gave came came out of my doctor's mouth. The following is just what I have read or heard on my own -- take it as you will

Also increasing water intake will be very helpful. Also if they receave almost no exposure to the sun then should have MODERATE (only a few minutes with no sunscreen) exposure as that will help the skin out as well.

Get enough exercise and also get enough sleep. Listen to smooth jazz. Use a facial wash rather than soap. Eat healthier and consume less fat. Go out more.

Go to your dermatologist, he might prescribe rho-acutane or differin.

My friend thanks you all. He is using Lozzy's advice with the hiarband :) and fluid intake :)

can any old doctor perscribe the acne treatments? Or only a skin doctor?

I once had bad acne when I was a teenager but fortunately my father was a doctor and knew the whole slew of specialists and took me to one of his buddies who was a dermatologist.

Rather than give me the wait and see run around like almost all doctors do, he just cut to the chase because he knew the other stuff was BS just designed to keep patients coming back every week.

It's been awhile but to the best of my knowledge I got cortisone shots to the keester and some form of ultra violet light treatment. Aside from that I used (and still use to this day) Aveeno Clear Complexion soap (any soap with salicylic acid will do) and at night apply Benzymicin gel (generic Erythromycin-Benzoyl Peroxide gel). The latter you need a prescription to purchase.

Best bet, find a friend who is a doctor or knows a doctor and get hooked up that way. Prior to that I got shuffled from one dermatologist to the next given all sorts of silly scrubs, lotions, and pills that didn't do crap.
