My name is Mathieu, I am 27 and I am a Shoshonolic

(standing up from his chair..)

I've been a closet Shoshonolic for sometime now....I need help! so glad I found this support group

My first BNW game was as Shoshone and I thought they were fantastic. I haven't played them again though, because I wanted to check out all the other new civs. So far, I'd say Shoshone and Poland are by far the best 2 new civs. Oh, and Morocco...and...

Shoshone kind of bore me. They're fun at first, but their advantages disappear so quick that they really aren't too exciting after a while. Their cavalry unit isn't exciting enough to stick around for.

Joking aside, does Shoshone settling anger the AI more than normal settling? Does the extra settled land factor into the diplo modifier?
In my games so far it appears to be so, I have no trouble propagating my hatred of the shoshones to the others civ, a couple of gpt, iron and horse and we're all gang banging the shoshones! Oh, I forgot to introduce myself.... My name is Daniel, I'm 35 and I am a shoshones hater, but even though it's not exclusive, I hate Alex, Venice and Maria-Theresa, but that's justify because they dare to mess around with my city-states!!! For the shoshones, it's pure hate, they think the land is theirs to grab and they are not even friendly... bad combo. The moment I see them I start paying everyone to eliminate them.

Last night I tried to control my hatred and since they weren't my next door neighbors, I stayed neutral for a while. Until I see a lone settler passing through my CS coming toward my planned expansion spot... WTH!! That was is death wish. The Huns were growing restless anyway (was he coming for me?), so I threw them a bone. Did the same with Genghis and Poland followed for free. They tear him apart but two small cities remained after even a hundred years of war (read a hundred turns) they even embargoed him, I finally stepped up and finished them and shot once and for all their nasty little voice from the world congress! Then I completed my quiet cultural victory.

Mathieu, pray to your little shoshonic god, that our paths never cross!!!

All that land grabbing and you'd think they'd be angry. Whenever these guys are my neighbors, their city-spam makes me wanna scalp Pocatello!! But I do love that Great Expanse UA when I play them and pathfinders are probably my favorite UU in BNW behind maybe Kris Swordsman (c'mon the blitz + 1 movement or GG passive or defense + extra healing?! Gotta love that RNG).

Except the movement promotion sticks around after upgrading. +1 movement landships and tanks? Yes please!

I've been kind if avoiding them just fir this purpose. I don't want to get to attached before they get hit with the nerf bat. :trouble:

Just finished out my highest score ever in a civ game as Shoshone. Filled out Liberty and Commerce and most of order. Kept 7 main cities (all of them beautiful locations with tons of luxuries) most the game then once I got the social tenet that lets you start with size 4 cities and the other one tht makes buying buildings 33% cheaper I founded a ton of colonies around Venice (cuz they can't expand) and Polynesia (cuz they don't expand) and they were so instantly productive and awesome. Ended up taking over everyone cuz I could afford a massive, technologically advanced army and could launch huge simultaneous invasions from my colonies. Those colonies starting at 4, with 3 rings worth of resources and rush buying at I think 83% discount (math seems wrong but I had Big Ben, the commerce policy and the order tenet) was insane.

I to enjoy the Shoshone civilization tho I seem to have issues with the Pathfinder. When discovering ruins you get to choose the benefit received. I selected an option to be granted a Great Prophet and got zip from this. A few turns later this option was given again and again I chose the Great Prophet and again I wasn't given this unit.

Is anyone else aware of this or seen such a response?

Shoshone are just so damn efficient.

Free land tiles means you are working all those 3 food and 2 food 1 hammer tiles right away and it is a long time before you need to work something weak like a regular grassland or plains tile.

Scouts not only choose which ruins they grab, but they are also composite bows. No need for construction before NC. No need to even train archers. You are just given a few composites for doing what you normally do anyway.

Stacking the "we found people to settle in our city" choice results in 6 pop. before you even get a settler, which is 2 science (a lot that early in the game) for 10-20 turns before any other Civ.

You would need to try and get a bad start with this Civ. The perfect start is given to you every time. Sure, half the UA dies off by mid-game, common of some of the weaker UA's (Celts forest bonus), but anyone who has played a few games of Civ5 realize you win or lose the game within the first 150 turns anyway. Everything after that is just how long the win will actually take.

Ignorance...Most of my games go neck to neck. I won Cultural victory yesterday by 3 turns of Russia WC vote to win diplo Entire game I thought I was doomed.

It was so intense, that great musician popped at turn 5...and I was panicking. :-)

Ive had many games like this...Don't know what CIV 5 you are playing. Maybe chieftain

I've played Shoshone once on King but I took the tall road to victory rather than a wide one. I started on a peninsula anyway, near a tundra and desert too.

Can't really say that I am Shoshonolic, but I do have to admit it is an epic civ. I tend not to play the same civ twice unless I failed to win playing as that particular civ.

Playing an immortal game which happens to be on a archipelago high water level map, huge, and the Shoshone are surprisingly good because you immediately get all the good tiles on the small islands you settle on

Your granted faith towards a GP, not a GP. The wording of the benefit is a bit misleading.

OMG I was just starting to heal, getting back to my good old first Roman liberty love.... Now I am doom and I know my girlfriend will be pissed at me for staying on the computer all evening -.- I do not know if I should thank you or hate you for sharing this idea...

Even though, I am quite sure I will not bother to try to find some free lands which at this point even around Venice might be quite limited and simply raze some cities... Mmmhhh I might need this Machu Pichu to be sure my economy will work ok while making my 4 cities tall empire get crazy huge with all this food roads connected to my abusive super early 6 pop capital.... MMMhhh there it is 4 cities fast, going for + food religion and NC ASAP, then grow! grow! grow! and BOOM!

AAAHHHHH it is 16h50 I am at work and I feel it coming again... I NEED THAT LAND!! Will just take it differently than usual but I WANT IT!!

Yes Isabella (I know you will be here, you always are) do not be upset when you found out why I have been such a sweet, friendly tall science focus empire all this time and get back to my old me when modern age pops in....

Or! I cheat and just go for Terra map... Make a one city tall empire until I found the new continent and simply send my super scouts with settlers there.... Et merde! As we say home... I just can't escape all this stupid way of having fun with Pocatelo...

I am always checking tech rates either after game or with InfoAddict. How they are sitting a third into the game is more often than not exactly how they sit by the end as far as who is ahead of whom. I've also played enough games where I can estimate my finish time depending on how the early game went.

The only difficulty where I cannot be assured of my tech is Deity, but even then I will know whether the game is going well enough that I can change it later on (control runaways through force).

Besides, nothing you said was contradictory. If you were neck and neck with Russia, you probably knew 100+ turns out that it was going to be close. Perhaps not within 5 turns close, but knew they would be at least competition.

Sure my friend, just few problems:

1) I see anyone coming from super far super early and sneaky DOW are not so efficient on my +20% strength buffed units if I am throwing arrows on enemies from his first step on MY LANDS  to my city. Mostly true in early ages when people settle and I have CB while they, my friend, have warriors...

2) my absurdly awesome start allows me to pay people to fall on each others before anyone else can by simply sharing some of all this luxuries or gpt they actually gave me.

3) Everybody start to hate me quite soon anyway so all my land is set up to fight invasions

4) If I survive all this aggressions I will be coming for your wonders...

6) If Poland is in the game I am already doing anything I can to put it to ashes and we should probably leave our troubles on the side and get rid of him before we get back to kicks each other's butts or whatever fun activities we are having
