Just for fun, I decided to play on sid (something iv never done before, im kinda noob). Heres the catch. Id build one city and see how long i survive. I didnt have to declare war but i was defiant so it was basically an always war. I picked Greece for the hoplites. I started out on the tip of a peninsula near the Mayans who had already built their 5th city in like 2500 BC. They demanded tribute (all of my gold) and declared war in 2300 BC. I survived with Athens for a very long time- until 730 BC when it was finally overrun.

Observations: The mayans were so focused on destroying puny me that they failed to build any new cities or any wonders. Also, there were many wars among the other civs and many GL's were popped. (including 3 for Babylon  ) Though only 1 city was taken. (Rome took Niagra Falls)

Note- I only met the Mayans whose borders disallowed my curragh to go anywhere.

I issue a challenge: Survive for as long as possible as a Defiant Sid with only 1 city.

Rules:
- no settler building
- research however you want
- You are defiant- no giving in to tribute
- no making peace at any time
- this is supposed to be a defensive stand- try just to survive and not conquer your enemy.
- Repick your start if you're isolated on an island
- Any map size/opponents though dont cheat by making a huge pangaea with 1 opponent. You get my drift.

Try to beat my record. Screenshots arent necessary unless you get something unbelievable (past 1000AD)

GL on your attempt to win the SUICIDE STRONGHOLD

yay first post! Sounds cool, but i only have vanilla version, so i can only play on levels up to diety.
:( :(

Managed till 170BC! :( the Koreans killed me in the next turn. This is quite fun!

defiant... but it probably will turn out to be AW since the other civs will end up demanding something from you.

hey give us noobs some fun.. we all know someone could beat this game backwards with only a spearman, but this is a nice challenge for us just to survive :P

I have an idea! Restart until you are next to a volcano... :mischief:

bit rude tomoyo :nono:

i believe there's still a chance to win by 20k by SirPleb or someone experienced in Sid.. :) it certainly isn't easy.

rofl :D

Question, how is one city gonna support all the troops you need to defend? Did you guys stop producing units really actually had enough gold?

It was difficult trying to keep the right amount of troops, it all depends how quickly the computer decides to attack you! if you build lots of troops too early youll go bankrupt, especially once the attack starts as the computer will pillage all your improvements.

if you get a bunch of wonders, once they become tourism attraction, you're going to get quite a lot of money. it also depends on your trading skills. :)

I started playing, I just got a leader to bad I can't make an army. I'm at 70BC and I don;t even have the wheel, but luckly for me the zulu declared war on the mongols.
Their both on my continent along with Eygpt
