How did you get the game to call your your civ the "Supersluggers"?
When you're starting a new game in the player setup screen, click on the leadername/info box below the leaderhead and it brings up a menu to change leadername, nation-name, etc.

AFAIK, there's no way to change it once the game has started, except maybe manually editing the .sav.

BTW I would have expected your next game to be on a Standard size map (to finish the Pent award) and possibly Emp or DG to get closer on the (Oct Award)
I did tinker with a few games as potential triples to qualify for the awards, but after a game or two it just didn't feel right. For one thing, I'm a diehard milker. An occasional fastest finish game definitely helps me on my opening skills, but milk runs are why I play.

Furthermore, it just doesn't feel right to compete for the Quartermaster's Challenge. If I did go for it, and wasn't at the top of the list, I'd be feeling "I created this competition, why am I not mastering it?" If I did go for it and was near the top, I'd be feeling "Well of course I'm near the top, I created the event!"

In either case, I'd feel conflicted with my job as HOF Chief, so I think the proper thing to do is just stay out of it.

(On the other hand, I would see zero conflicts of interest with Dianthus completing the circuits. Granted it wouldn't have been possible without him, and I'm thinking he put more work into it than I did, but the difference is that I'm the one who makes the final rules and format decisions.)

Well, that's needlessly longwinded, but oh well. :p

Remember what Jack Nicklaus has said about Golf on many occasions........."It's just a game." :)

You're right, EMan, golf is just a game. Civilization on the other hand....

I share those feelings too. Exactly, why I have no desire and no motivation to compete for the Quartermaster's Challenge. I'm really a hardcore milker. I like to take my sweet little time guilding my workers and expanding my little empire at a normal pace. However, I will attempt to finish each type of victory conditions at least once to see if I can do it. Fast Conquest is the only thing left on my "to play" list.

A few notes on my prewar Middle Ages:

The Persians and Byzantines both proved to be worthy adversaries in cultural border "wars". This, despite having ToA and the most anally tight possible ICS grid. I did snag an Incense from the Persians, but lost my only Wine to the Byzantines. A few Byzantine cities flipped, but I kept a nervous eye on my only Horses, which frequently traded hands before firmly staying on their side. So I used the extra Incense, tech and cash to get Carthage's extra for a while.

My two exploratory Jaguar Warriors stumbled across a lone Greek warrior in the middle of some as of yet unsettled valley. They killed him and I had a nice uneventful Golden Age (although I did take the oppurtunity to bribe virtually everyone into fighting Greece). The only problem was that I had forgotten one of my Galleys was in Greek sees. This was a fact I would be constantly reminded of in almost all future ROP related laughter, er, negotiations.

Despite not having played for a Pyramid SGL, and having to pay for Horses, the game was going largely by my original plan....until 870ad anyway.

Notice my stacks of Cavalry? I was getting prepared for a two turn prerail obliteration of the Byzantines, but I was not ready yet!

26 hours without a single post in the HOF forum? I guess it's my job to do something about that. (A few faces around here likely remember that I was the resident cheerleader/spammer before disappearing for six months and coming back to take the reins.)

Oh what to post, what to post. Oh, duh, I guess a game update. Where was I?

The true meaning of "premptive strike" by the AI...Wow I'm impressed.

Ah, yes, the Byzantines! Thanks Mistfit.[/senility]

I obviously was unable to pull of the two turn execution of the Byzantines I was prepping for, and they burned several of my jokes of cities to the ground. But, those cities were quickly replaced and I dispatched the Byzantines as quickly as possible, bringing a most merciful end to their wretched trespassing on my map by 940ad.

I did come very close to one disastrous mistake during the war, an error that would have brought this game to an immediate close. I'm so used to torching cities, hitting the burn command is virtually automatic reflex in my fingers. I'm glad I caught myself on this one:

A couple of questions, are you past 1000 AD yet and what was your score at 1000 AD or 980 AD if that's as far as you have gotten?

I'm not doing an all bad job taking up your spam slack in the short time I've been contributing to the HoF. I do currently own the longest, non stickied, thread on the front page :D .

I have actually done what you are describing above. The only exception was that it was the Pyramids and it was in a GOTM :suicide: Talk about senility! It was actually the only reason I was attacking that civ at the time :crazyeye:

I've noticed a troubling trrend of me overusing smilies in my recent posts... I think I may need therepy or counciling :smug:

Well that only lasted 2 hours after you posted, I wonder if GorfTheWanderer did that on purpose?

I am past 1000ad. My current game status is 1320ad. According to Mapstat, my 1000ad autosav score registered a score of 5896 points and a playtime of 102 hours. I don't expect the score to be high though right now. Despite my number of cities, I still possess only a fraction of the map, and once I got to Communism, I did some whipping and drafting.

No, you're really not, although you might get a run for your money when boogaboo shows back up.

Svar, your question got me thinking and I realized I hadn't yet checked my Domination limit (either current or for the map). It's 3627 and as of 1320ad I had gotten just under 2000 tiles.

I've been reviewing my game .savs as well as my notes, both posted or otherwise, and I have to admit I've really grown disillusioned with the idea of milking this map. Forgetting I had a Galley in Greek waters when I declared my GA war hurt my reputation badly, and maintaining ROP's has gotten expensive (when the AI should be paying me for the right). Also, I think I seriously wasted that GA too early, it should've waited for Communism, when substantially less of those bonus shields would be corrupt.

Ever since that first war, and due to bungled foreign policy on my part, the AI's have constantly been at each other's throats. While that keeps them busy, the alliances shift every turn and I never know which AI is going to go at me next. Hence, the conquest phase started before I would have liked and decidedly not on my terms.

So, this game is no longer a milk run. I'm going to wipe them all out and submit the game as a Conquest win, earning a credit towards Machiavelli and Octathlon.

@'slug: Even the die-Hard Dairy Farmer has his limits!
True, and my limits seem to be in the first half of the game. I'm still trying to wrap this one up so I can submit it as a fastest finish. It'll satisfy Machiavelli and Pentathlon requirements towards Quartermaster's, that'll leave only Demigod, Deity or Sid, plus a Standard map and Spaceship and Diplomatic. I should be able to cover all that in two more games.

I've obviously had a change of heart about the QC. I suppose there's nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of my labors, especially since I can't vet my own games. What better way to endorse the environment than jump into it?

Even if I don't do that well, I'll be filling slots and practicing my opening before a hardcore milk run.

A year off from milk runs made me rusty, so I blew this game big time, but I'm still obliterating the AI on a Huge Emperor map! I might just get to Sid before IV is released after all.... *ahem* Yeah, right.

If you play Sid level, using the Continents configuration AND you can get your own island (viz. Continent), you should have a good chance of winning the game. You can "seal" your island by putting warriors, workers or whatever on the coastline, thus keeping the AI out..........at least until they reseach Marines.........a looooooooong way off! ;)

P.s. Yes, you should become a QuarterMaster, IMO.......you are the de facto "Great Leader" of the HOF.........so why not lead by your actions, setting a good example in the process!? :)

I'm growing more and more tired of my current game. I think I can squeeze out a Domination victory in a few hours of play. That'll leave Conquest, Diplomatic, Spaceship, Standard and one win on Demigod or above. Not sure who I'm going to use for all that just yet...
