I recently discovered the Strategy Layer and have found a great use for it. I made a wish list of all the future cities I would like to have.

When I went back into the game I saved, I found that all the lines were gone. I guess stuff on the strategy layer is not saved with the game file? Anyways I wanted a screenshot of the sub menu for the Strategy Layer.

What does the 'View' Button do? I have figured out all the other selections. Is there an article about the Strategy Layer and different ways to use this?

Thanks.

If you (freely) upgrade to BTS, you'll be able to toy around with CTRL + X/W,
Which provides an enhanced tool for what you're looking for.
Combined with CTRL + S, it allows for dotmapping and informative signs.

Those data remain when saving/loading the game.
If you feel fancy, you can use several colours, too.

Buttons in the lower right corner customize the info that appears on top of the bare map.
Some of them are toggled on no matter the situation, some are situational, some are useful early, some are just cute ideas.

Most important are :
- toggle tile yields on (always)
- toggle resources on (always early on, debattable later on)
- toggle tile grid on (debattable, may help deciding on the settling, may be a hindrance if it clogs up the map too much)
- toggle scores on (always, help keeping track of city count, religion, diplo)

In the globe view, the Culture and Military views can find some uses. (e.g. : if you're under attack, looking for enemy military may help.)
However, those are things that one can see by just looking at the map. Mostly, they can help getting an idea of the bigger picture.

Notice anything ?
Yields for worked tiles appear bigger. Toggle on and you don't need to enter your cities to know what they're doing.
If you see a high yield that isn't worked, you may want to look inside a city screen or two.
