Mysterious City Icon Resembling a Rook?

After downloading the 1.09 patch I noticed that an icon resembling a chess-piece rook appears next to my cities. What does this icon mean? I can't find it listed anywhere in the manual.

It tells you the defense of the city you are currently looking at.

the rook is a bit redundant if you ask me, we got the numarical % already, how about we change it to an airplane to show if we have any airports!

I agree widdowmaker. The +X% is all that we need. The "rook" icon is redundant and useless. The airport icon would serve us much better than useless eye candy.

I've recently noticed a white/silver star icon in the city info bar. Anyone know what that is?

The white star is an indication for a maintenance reducing structure such as Forbidden Palace and The Versailles.
