Mystery fur resources

I'm getting two fur resources per turn from... I don't know where. Any ideas?

On the "Resources" report (button now in top right-hand corner), their source is listed as "Gameplay Bonuses." I know it shows that for resources coming from City States, but I'm not currently receiving any from City States (to check, I saved and then went to war with the two that I had been Suzerain of).

As far as I know, you only get luxury resources from CSs, trade deals, and ones developed by your empire. This excludes the unique luxuries received from unique GPs and CSs like toys, cloves, etc.

If none of the CSs are giving you the fur, have you double-checked that you aren’t receiving them from a trade deal? Did you settle on top of a fur tile?

I like your thinking, but no. If I were receiving them from a trade deal, they ought to say "Diplomatic Deal" on the Resources report. I even saved and then went to war with everyone for good measure, but those two furs are still coming in. (Incidentally, is there a place to see all current trade deals? I thought there was, but maybe I'm remembering all the way from Civ V.)

I typically don't settle on resources if I can help it, but I moused over ever single City Center hex just to make sure, and no, there are no fur resources hiding underneath.

I think this comes up with an Amani promotion, have you got that promo?

No, I haven't appointed Amani at all, let alone gotten that promotion. But thanks for thinking of that! I knew there was SOME weird luxury resource generator ability out there that I couldn't find (so I could rule it out). This is that ability - it just happens to not be the culprit in this case.

One of the Great Merchants can go out and target a luxury resource and give you a copy in your capital.

I'm not sure how it could be two though.

I've noticed this as well and the "Gameplay Bonuses" is not the least bit helpful. In my case it was a luxury that I was getting from a CS but I was getting 3 copies from one CS and 4 copies of a different lux from another CS even though they each had only one improved source of that lux. I was playing on Emperor so I don't think it was any difficulty adjustment. I also read all the suzerain bonuses and looked at any wonders I had built just in case there was something changed in GS but I didn't see anything that could explain it.

The only thing I could figure was that maybe it was a UI display issue because I do use a mod that improves the report screens. It was updated for GS but always possible that it could still need tweaking.

OP, double check and see if you are using any kind of mods at all. I know for me a couple mods seem to enable themselves again after I know I disabled them.

No, it's early enough in the game that I haven't had any Great Merchants yet, but good thinking.

Oh, and in case anyone thinks of it (because I didn't until just now), it's not because of a resolutions passed by the World Congress.

OP, in your “declared war” tests did you passed the turn to check? This UI has some updates issues.

Edit: Also, which civ are you playing with?

I assume you mean community-generated mods that would change the UI? The only mods I have are the official DLC and expansions from Firaxis.

I'm with you on "Gameplay Bonuses" not being helpful. Sometimes, when I'm trying to figure out exactly where a particular bonus is coming from (buildings? adjacency bonus? CS? Mercury retrograde?), those generic catch-all labels are frustrating. Granted, most of the time, I don't need such a granular level of detail (not for my level of casualness), but when I'm trying to figure something out, lumping a bunch of things together makes it hard to parse out what's doing what to whom.

Ah, crap, shoulda thought of that. You're right - I didn't pass a turn, so I'll give that a try.

Edit: Tried it, and still no change.

I'm playing with Pachacuti of the Incans. Who, incidentally, is a lot of fun so far, especially when coupled with the Earth Goddess pantheon (bonus faith based on appeal, since there are SO many mountains in my territory). I say this as someone who usually ignores religion. And then using the Fez CS bonus to translate my religion into all kinds of science. I hit Industrial era tech while still in Medieval era culture, even though my culture per turn and science per turn are similar. Kinda OP, though.

It might help to figure out if it's a UI issue or if you're actually getting the benefit of the furs. But that may be pretty tedious to determine (i think you'd have to add up all your amenity sources and compare with how many each city has and not forget things like the capital having an inherent amenity).

Also, are they available to trade away? That would tell us if the game thinks they come from within your empire or if they're coming from somewhere else.

In my game, I was getting two oil per turn from "gameplay bonus" for a while and then it disappeared....

It would be nice if they had a 'reveal terrain' lens which stripped all manmade features from the map.

I had a hell of a time trying to work out where some iron was coming from recently. Turned out it was blotted out by a Holy Site.

Yet another nice little feature found in earlier civ games that's inexplicably missing from this one. :undecide:
