n0x-01 -- I Wonder...

I wouldn't be opposed to peace without taking Chengdu if the odds are bad. Having a few units around might be better now than using them all to get Chengdu and have nothing left to deter others. We could come back when we have some counter to the Cho-Ko-Nus. Right now, they are a pain for our troops.

If i remember right, the Artist will give beakers towards Nationalism if we have Drama now. Have a look for that. I think we should use him if this is indeed so. Then we can research Liberalism down to 1 turn and see if we can reasonable expect to get Constitution before having to finish it. That way we could take Democracy for free and get an early start on the Statue which will take very long to build (we don't have copper).

How does that sound?

Sounds good Sina, I like it.

We can try to get Constitution. We just have to watch the research diplomacy screen every turn and then we could have a leeway of a couple of turns into education. Constitution will take a while though so it may be a long shot.

I would do it even though it's a long shot as we can always just take military tradition instead. Or something else entirely. As constitution will be half or more done, it won't be worth taking that.

You also make a good point about the Statue. Our best production city should be kept free for this. And the engineer used to rush it when it's started. The Taj Mahal can be built in our 2nd best production city. It should be quite fast and may help us to get Constitution faster.

:hmm: ... if I join the game, I'd be proving myself wrong (since I was one of the naysayers) ... on the other hand, I'd hate to see a good game flounder ... let me see what my upcoming schedule is, I'll probably be able to join ...

EDIT: I see others have already joined, I too will go back to lurking.

ChrTh, I have no problem with you playing an alternate role until Atlas returns. That's if you're happy to do that. That applies equally to GreyFox, graphics card permitting.

If so, then it's an open game for whoever wants to post a got it at the moment. We can firm up a roster if we get rolling normally again.

Any takers?

I won't be able to play before maybe Thursday anyway, so everybody else get in line before me please. :)

At work now - so tonight (about 8 hrs) I'll grab save and play unless someone else gets in first.

Exactly what I was thinking GreyFox.

Kanga: You can play next as I think Ralph is in UK so won't be able to play before then. Unless he plays before going to work :p .

First up, you should take a moment to check that you can load the save ok and then have a look around and post any questions you might have. I personally find that writing notes on a pad before you start and then as you go is useful to me. Rather than alt-tabbing out of the game.

You just press 'PrintScreen' to take screenshots and they are saved in the screenshots directory. Resize them to 800 pixels wide before you post them.

Most of all, just enjoy the game. This is why we are here, to learn and have fun.

Ok, I opened up and played a turn! However theres a few things I'd like to clarify. Use the Gr.Artist on Nationalism? Will half research it leaving ~5turns to go. Bombay popped a Gr.Prophet, is there a suggested use? Holy building or not? It's tech is about half of Printing Press. And there's that spare Gr.Prophet in Delhi just snoozing away.... Delhi will pop another GP very shortly as well.
Research can sustain continuously at about 60%, not the 80% it's at right now.
I've bombarded Chengdu, but I suspect I may as well of been tossing pebbles on the rooves there. That city is highly untakeable without more troops. Do I make a concerted effort, or sue for peace? I've started a Uni at Madras as well.

Kanga, I'd sue for peace. We don't need to take that city. It'd be nice but we can't afford the price. And the war is starting generate War Weariness if I recall correctly.

On the GP's, spend the artist on Nationalism and then finish it. You then go to constitution and start that. Each turn, keep an eye on the tech diplomacy screen. When we no longer are up Education on any one of the AI's we can spare a few more turns before we need to finish liberalism. At that point, I'd take military tradition as you'll probably already be a fair way through constitution.

I think with research at the affordable level of 60% we'll struggle to get it, but it's worth a shot.

Clear as mud huh...

What tech is the Prophet offering by the way?

:D

The two prophets might get us Printing Press, which is tempting for the commerce/research bonus. Just a thought. :crazyeye:

Peace is fine. We got 2 cities out of Mao's declaration. I'm quite happy with that. :)

About research...I don't have Kikinit's nerves of steel, so I'd research Liberalism down to 1 or 2 turns after Nationalism and then proceed as he suggested.
Yes, use the Artist for research, but save the Prophets until further discussion (about my next paragraph).

Are we going to go to Free Religion once we have it available? It would give us Science, but the 25% building bonus would be lost. I'm not really sure what is best. Any number crunchers out there that want to list gain/loss?
My stomach feeling is Free Religion is better. It'll help with science and relations. We are most likely going for space after all wonders are in, right?
If we go for Free Religion, we should spread them and use our Great Prophets for shrines.

Opinions?

EDIT: Printing Press is tasty as well. I'm really undecided as to what I think is best and what I would like most. :)

That one turn I did got Liberalism down to one turn, so no need to be to worried on that score.

I'm more inclined to stay in Org Religion for a while longer, I've never found the 10% science boost a city worth the loss of 25% hammers. However that is hardly a considered number crunched position. I'll hold off using the Prophets pending the council's ruling.

The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to take Printing Press with the Prophets and to stay in OR at least until the Statue is secured.

I really can't make my mind up. :p

As we are spiritual, we can chop and change as it suits us. When building slow wonders, we can be in Organised Religion and at other times we can go to Free Religion. No cost to us to revolt.

Heh, haven't played a spiritual in a while obviously. In any case I played a few more turns leaving the Prophets to have a nap. I'll use them to pick up Printing Press unless either of you wish to veto it. I'll finish the turns tomorrow ti give you a chance to.

Additionally we scored a Gr.Scientist in Delhi. Academy? Tech is also Printing, though I always think that a waste of a Scientist.

We haven't spread religion very far either. Is that worth a bit of a solid effort to boost income?

Mmm, almost forgot, sued for peace with Mao. Got some spare change + 5 gold a turn.

Free civics swaps is the power of the spiritual trait and you need to use the advantages of the traits wherever possible.

I think that one of our towns could devote itself to pumping out missionaries. I think we did do this for a while but we've stopped. We should just keep on going for it. Have we got any more shrines to build? I can't recall how many religions are under our control.
