n0x-01 -- I Wonder...

Few more notes:
We seem to have a lot of long term builds in process at the moment. We are sitting 6th in terms of military numbers. More so than banks/markets/grocers I think we could use some riflemen once rifling is in... we are I suspect becoming a juicy target. Alex is spamming Jewish missionaries our way ... I see a religious request coming soon and a probable souring of relations.

Going free religion to get rid of the AI negative modifiers may be due. We also should look into getting Defensive pacts going to help make us a little less juicy. Who would be our best ally to do this with.

About markets and grocers. They are useful at 100% research in shrine cities only. The gold from shrines is direct gold per turn and not commerce.

Good stuff by the way Kanga  and I agree that military is probably worth going for now. We've got the tech lead and the research power to keep it so we should start to look at military might to keep it in our hands.

Sorry guys, my friend was on vacation for Memorial Day here in the States and did not get back until last night, so I got the disc from him then but it was too late to play. I am glad you just skipped me. I got back from vacation and had forgotten which day of the week it was  and then forgot it was a holiday weekend so nobody is in town  . My fault. I am sorry I did not post  .

So okay now I really "got it!" None of that fake "got it" stuff like before ;) .

So back to business

- I wonder if banks and the like will help with $ at 100% research? Bombay > grocer
The short answer to the is Kanga is no; banks, grocers, and markets do not provide their economic benefit at 100% science/culture; or anytime when the adding the culture slider to the science slider = 100%. The exception is in cities with religious shrines (you will always want to build these buildings shrine cities).

If you look in the city screen, in the upper left hand corner there will be a display of the commerce that city produces. Scroll over that display and it will give you the commerce break down for that city, including modifiers like banks.

Those looked like good turns. Alex is the worst friend ever, Hatty the best, so refusing him for her is almost always the best thing to do. Good turns there.

I really can't wait to get my hands on the game really, I have not seen it in so:D .

-Atlas

T0- I fire some of the specialists in cities that are not maxed out on growth (particularly Delhi, which I can't figure out why it had Priest Specialists?, I am afraid I am missing something, but we already own all of the shrines that we can own), they can be brought back when those cities have all the pop. that they can handle. We are down only Military Tradition to Alex, this is a situation that makes me nervous, the last thing we want is a ton of cavalry pouring in our backlines. I will be building military! I like the Rifiling research, after that I think a pit stop to grab the free scientist at Physics is in order, the a grab electricity and assembly line for the Pentagon and Broadway, trade back for some techs, and then right at Radio to get Eiffle Tower and Rock n' Roll, then Mass Media for UN.

T1-Zzz

T2-Genghis (like Alex) demands that we cancel our deals with the Egyptians. I teel him what he can go with his his horses!!! I buy JC's world map for 80 gold. I trade Hatty ivory for sugar and 1 gold per turn. We did not need the sugar really, but I think she needs the Ivory, since no one likes her. I am trying to figure out a way to get Alex, Huayan Capac and Genghis fighting each other, can't get it worked out just yet.

T3-Zzzz

T4-Chinese borders just took a gems from us at Nanjing!

T5-Zzzz

T6-Rifling comes in. I set research to Sci. Met. and Physics. I think I will start drafting units for a few turns. Genghis just declared war on Hatty!! I switch civic from Buearcracy to Nationhood, think we have a lock on the Statue of Liberty so it should not be too risky, Alex is worrying me anyway. So I draft two Riflemen, then spend 1700 gold to upgrade all of our Warriors to Riflemen. I slow research a bit too, so we can upgrade some archers in important places. I give Ceasar iron for free. I think we want to prop him up. I notice that Genghis is up Chemistry on us.

T7-Draft some more units. This period is always rife with sneak attacks in my SP games, we can not afford to get caught flat footed in this game. There will be some unhappiness in Bombay and Madras, sorry about that.

T8-Zzzz

T9-There is a Settler in the que at Bangalore, but I can't figure out where he should go, so I put a worker in the que in front of him. Hatty loses Giza! So I trade her Nationalism for World map and 180 gold, I want her to be able to draft units.

T10-I give JC Divine Right to stop trading with Genghis. Try and bring him into the battle to help Hatty, but keep us out of it, if possible. However it seems that if the choice is to let Hatty fall or Fight Genghis then go ahead and fight Genghis. Anyway I think the team should discuss this.

Game Looks good, build some troops. Maybe gift some to Hatty. Watch out for Alex. Switch back to Buearcracy on the first Turn since I think I have drafted all the units that would prudent to do so (about 5, but in 5 turns and no anarchy makes it worth it).

My husband did something to his computer and it is somewhat broken. He's trying to fix it, but it might take a few days.

So I'll need to be skipped.

10 quite uneventful turns. Building a bit and theres not really a lot to do. We must keep on pushing out defensive troops and missionaries when we can.

(0) Lots of MM to grow the cities that should grow and stagnate the unhappy ones. Lots of unhappy here from all the drafting but I guess it's worth it for our piece of mind.
(1) Guangzhou: ?? -> Uni.
I put a theatre in front of the queue in Madras as it's a bit unhappy.
Revolt to bureaucracy.
Karachi is going to earn us a lot of money and research in the future when all those cottages are matured into towns.
I think we should go to free speech soon when all those towns are ready. It will be the best civic for us together with Univ.Suff to get the 1 hammer from towns. That will help us build things in these cottage rich towns.
(2) --
IBT: Hatty wants Education for free. I say no as she's +14 with us, we can afford a -1.
(3) ?? (must take better notes) -> Uni.
IBT: HC demands 230g. To this I say ok as I don't want him to have a reason to attack us. I think my diplomacy is all a bit muddled. No to hatty, yes to HC...
(4) Sci.Meth in. Physics next. Our only oil is offshore and we'll need plastics to get it.
(5) --
(6) --
IBT: Now Hatty wants us to go to war with Mr. Khan. I don't want any wars so I say no. Boy women can be demanding ;) .
(7) The statues done. Thought I took a picture but it didn't come out.
Delhi: Statue -> Bank and I queued up a grocer. It should have these as it's got our most productive shrine.
(8) --
(9) Bangalore: Settler -> Rifleman. Can also do an observatory which would be useful with it's commerce but I decide to build a bit more military. The settler is put to sleep as we don't have any places left for him to go.
I spread hinduism (via missionary) to one of Cyrus's cities and it nets us +3gpt. When the bank and grocer are done in the capital it will be more.
We need to spread missionaries as much as we can. Whenever you are unsure of what to build pump out missionaries or a little military.
(10) We get another great Merchant. He can do a trip somewhere for some money to allow us to research at 100%. I left him in the capital for the next player to decide where to send him.

I think we should change civics to Univ.Suff, Free Speech and Free Religion. GP's are gettinga bit far apart now and we can get alot from our maturing towns. Open for discussion.

Not really a roster here... Whoever can grab it, preferably Sina or Kanga before Atlas again.

The Save:

I agree with the proposed civic changes. It looks like it's time for it.
Let's not forget about Communism and the Kremlin either. I'd want to get that one soonish, so that we can buy other wonders if need be.

Unfortunately it looks like I'll be without civ for a while. The computer needs a new xp install and I don't think that'll be done before Monday/Tuesday maybe even Wednesday.

Ok Sina, thanks for telling us. This game is in slow motion anyway so you'll not miss too much.

I guess that means Kanga is up or any lurkers want to have a turn?

Okay - first thing I'm doing is checking out our diplomacy situation, if we want a dipolo victory we want to be choosy with who we offend. I notice that we are making some okay coin from our lousy neighbors unfortunately. However I may end up cancelling those deals though, as I suspect it will hurt them more than the loss of gold.

1625 Inherited - zzzz
1628 Theatre @ Calcutta, to help with  . Switch to Free Speech.
1631 zzz - move workers mostly
1634 I'm trying to figure if Dehli is our GPF? It's got the National Epic(?), chop a forest to speed Bank and build a farm on it.
1637 *sigh* It not like I wasn't expecting this.

Genghis doesn't like Hatty. Pity, I do. Temple @ Bombay for happy + the coin it adds. Workers keep on working.
1640 Market @ Calcutta. Dehli pops a GS - send to Karachi for Academy. (Made an educated :crazyeye: guess that this will be our next best science city once the cottages mature.)
In the meantime I've sent the GM to Memphis.
1643 Theatre @ Bangalore, Grocer @ Lahore. GM offers 3150 in Memphis, I take it. For what its worth:

1646 Rifle @ Bombay
1649 Genghis is our nagging wife? Sod off. Put research back to 90%.

1652 Mao now. So you want Constitution? I think you've mistaken me for someone who will say yes.

I'll remember that Mao. Hindu Temple @ Madras. Also Theatre @ Karachi, now this is vetoable - everything else had depressingly long build times.
1655 JC your generousity is underwhelming. No thanks.

Grocer @ Bangalore.

Note that we are in relations:
+13 with Hatty
+15 with JC
+4 with HC

I tried to keep consistent with our best buddies. We are still 4th in power, keep squeezing military in when possible. JC is in the middle of a power build up. He is no:1 in power by a fair margin. Free Religion soon I think, but I'd try and wait till we get another great person, as this would give us the option to get a golden age when we want.

Good stuff Kanga. And good idea that we start keeping consistent plan for dealing with our opponents. Diplomatic victory is a big chance for us. Failing that it will be space so we'll need to make sure we've got production for that.

I think I'm up then unless Sina has fixed her PC. I'll probably play tomorrow night.

I think that Mao would be perfect as adding his empire to ours would just be an extension of our current one. I think we should draw up plans too attack him. I'll have a look at the save tonight and see what there is to see.

yes Mao should be next, possible followed by Genghis. Genghis has likely used his stacks on Hatty already thus we could likely roll over him. Either would suit me. We just aren't going to be on the good side of both Genghis and Hatty over time.

Good turns Kanga :goodjob:

Any progress Sina?

Kiknit I think that you played before Kanga, maybe I should grab it?

Atlas you are right... It's even on the same page. I didn't bother to go back and check, I just went from memory. You can play first whilst we wait and see whether or not Sina's got here PC back up.

It's not my PC but hubby's. Mine is overheating and completely useless for games, so I'm stealing his for civ. :)

We just returned from our weekend trip and he's now installing stuff. I expect to have it available tomorrow morning/afternoon and will then grab the save and play if nobody else got it before me.

We need to decide if Projects are Wonders or not. If they are, we should go for Space and don't even try Diplo (can't risk actually winning a vote, so just choose no resolutions all the time).

I'd like to play this one on without an agressive war. This is essentially a builders game. We sure can defend ourself and strike back if we get attacked, but I would prefer not to declare war ourselves. That feels right to me in the spirit of this game.
I'll go along with majority decissions anyway. :)
