n0x-01 -- I Wonder...

I started off my turns by upgrading quite a few units. I was looking to beef up our military and start getting ready to war with Mao.

Plastics came in and I went for computers next so we can go to Fibre Optics and get the internet to get the missing techs we don't have. Not many missing but it will be a few.

Manhattan Project completed and Hollywood too. Three gorges is started and due in 5.

Halfway through my turns I was about to attack Mao and he got infantry and I re-evaluated it. We need to get a big army of tanks and artillery to take him on. We aren't ready yet. He has lots of cannons and cavalry and they will hurt our stacks until we get a few more powerful units.

I've moved alot of troops to the border in anticipation of an attack. We can go soon when a few more tanks are available. Although I hate tanks as they don't seem to be very good at anything in particular. I'd build up a bit more of a force first as we haven't got much defenses left after I took out all the units from the city. Maybe 10 or more turns of preparation first.

Here's the save:

Hmm I need a roster. :)

Wonderific roster
-- Kikinit - Just Played
-- Kanga - UPPITY UP UP!
-- Sina - out of pocket
-- Atlas - On deck

Should get to this this evening.

Ok got it and playing, however I'm taking pause a moment.

I can't help noting that the internet is not going to nab us more than Artillery right now. Also the internet is a "world project" not a wonder, so by the variants not essential to build. Note that the space elevator is a wonder though. Perhaps we hold of on the internet, especially as it doesn't give us much and keep our Kremlin useful a while longer?

Worth noting that Mao is mostly done on Electricity which is a prerequisite for
Industrialism ... which gives tanks. The window of opportunity against Mao is not very large.

Perhaps we could grab Robotics next, which will give us access to Mech Infantry?

I'd like your thoughts on strategy before I play this.

One more thing: :mischief:
We can pay Hatty fission to declare on Mao, and JC will for fission declare on Mao and give us artillery to boot...

I think we should get them to declare before we do to pull him over that way first. Then we can attack. Remember the thing we are after is a 17XP unit first and foremost. A few cities will be handy too but not the goal here. I wouldn't wait too long to declare.

T0 - All is well

T1 - Set more tanks and marines to build, Computers done, start on Robotics (not Fibre Optics). Research to 0% for some upgrade cash, will get Hatty and JC to declare shortly.

T2 - Another UN vote, Us vs. Alex. I wonder who to vote for? Get Hatty to declare on Mao for fission (we get 20 gold and world map thrown in ) I get JC in too, for fission again, we get artillery in the deal but it costs 580 gold now. . Start some cannon upgrades.

T3 - Alex wins; Genghis, Mao and HC voted for him.

China captures Neopolis, however our front is looking very tasty now. Hangzhou look out!

T4 - Hatty didn't like Neopolis either it turns out.

Three Gorges next turn, will declare then. JC has started on the Apollo Project.

T5 - I'm not above petty extortion. Mao gives up 110 gold. Ha-ha sucker.

Lost an sacrifical artillery, but Hangzhou falls like a house of cards.

T6 - Vote for Free Speech. Mao's about as punch drunk as you get, almost out on his feet.

T7 - Loose another artillery at Tianjin, but does good primary and collateral damage against the odds. Tianjin and Xian are now ours.

T8 - Consolidating moves. Slow military production, start some labs.

IBT - Genghis wants a war ally against HC. No thanks, not when you look a likely next target. Alex too, wants dye for fish. Not right now I think.

T9 - Ditto T8, Beijing should be ours next turn

T10 - Alex is fishing for a diplo victory. I hope we've stolen enough Mao votes and added to ours to deny. Beijing is conquered.

Addendum: I captured Chengdu in there somewhere as well.

Looks good Kanga. Looks like we might struggle to get that 17XP unit the way we are going. We'll have to take it really slow and hope that Hatty or JC don't take the last city whilst we are trying to get the XP.

True. But if we can get it now it would be best. Then we can just get all the wonders and national wonders and finish the game.

Tanks are good at a number of things in my estimation 1: Taking cities-They are 40% stronger than infantry 28 v. 20 and they get 2 moves which is just awesome (even though artillery only get one) 2: They are great at zone defense because they are stonger than everything else out there 3: Properly promoted they cause collateral damage just like artillery, canons, cats  4: They can really rack up the XP because they have blitz ability-they can attack twice on the same turn  5: They don't upgrade from anything-this is good because when you get to tanks 20 turns ahead of the AI- they will not have tanks on the 21 turn b/c of their free upgrades, no they have to build them-a HUGE advantage to the human.

I like they way things are looking. Except I really don't want to go to war again. It should be either Genghis or HC, it will depend on relations, but the last thing we want is our half of the world fighting Alex's half  . I promoted that infantry to CGIII- because I had to give it something (if you don't promote then the unit does not go up in "level" and thus you can't start the Heroic Epic) I never really meant he should be the unit to get the 17XP. Tanks are the thing to use for quick XP because they have the opportunity to get XP 2x on the same turn. During the war did anyone swithch our civics around to get our units all starting at 10XP? I don't think I saw that, but I am really sick right now, I got :vomit: and my head feels like this :hammer2: so anyway. I got the save and will play and post shortly.

T0-Okay Mao is almost dead. I am going to look around and probably pay JC and Hatty to make peace with Mao. It is too late to change civics now (although a change would now only net 2 more XP since vassalge is now forbidden by the Free speech civic). We have a 10xp tank that should be able to take care of business. I hope. Okay Hatty gets Radio for peace. JC gets Fascism.

T1-Okay I guess there was a vote on the last turn set, we got 460 votes of 531 necessary to win, with Hatty and JC voting for us. Alex got Mao, and HC. Genghis abstained. That probably means that if we have to fight again then Genghis will be the target. HC is 8 turns from Industrialism and is just now building a granary in Olly :smoke: Next turn JC will get flight. Hatty is 8 turns from Plastics. Mao is 161 turns from industrialsim. Alex is 4 turns from Industrialism and is still running a ton of specialist in Athens as a result is factory will be built in 28 turns .

T2 1857- Genghis is 16 turns from Industrialism. I am only attack Macau with select units (those over 10XP). I lost the first battle, but won the next two now we have a 12 xp unit and an 11. Eventually I imagine we will only be attacking with one unit. I ahve been shifting units to the south east in case Genghis want to do something stupid.

T3-Damn just lost a tank at 94%!!! Okay an infantry won. It now has 14 xp. JC is now 16 turns from Industrialism.

T4- Alex comes by and demands Radio. I agree, I don't want some long drawn out modern war. We want to finish this up quick like and if it means swollowing our pride then so be it. Alex has tons of units. As soon as he gets flight he will upgrade about 40 cavalry to gunships and they will decimate our tanks, we don't want that. A global civic vote for free religion comes aroung I vote no, I don't want the Alex and HC to increase their science rates. At 69% odds of winning I attack with our 14Xp infantry and win!! He now has 17XP. We can finally put Mao out of his misery. Robotics comes in. Start on Fiber Optics due in 10. Cuzci us building the Apollo Program and is due in 28 turns. Bangalore starts work on the Space elevator due in 20.

T5-Free Religion passed, no big deal really. Corinth is building the Apollo program due in 14. I will be really upset if we lose to a space victory by someone. Karachi starts West Point due in 11.

T6- Move spies not a lot going on. Everyone of our cities (minus the new Chinese acquistions) is unhealthy, even before Laboratories. So I finally make the trade Hit Musicals to Alex for Fish.

T7- Move spies.

T8- Move spies.

T9-The Khan demands we cancel our deals with Hatty- Go bugger off!! We are now at +7/-12 witht the Khan. Tianjin is in revolt. That city will probably flip to HC, I have been trying to force some culture in there, but I think it will probably reamin in permanent revolt. We are now the Sec. Gen of the UN, getting 468 votes of 844 with the normal split Hatty and JC for SG_Wonderboy, and everybody else for Alex. I still can't get over the fact that Alex is soooo popular, like oh my gosh, who would have ever thunk it?????? Move spies. I go ahead and start the Forbidden palace in Bombay.

T10-JC comes by offereing a Defensive Pact, I thought we already had one... Oh well, I hardly use these so I really don't know about them, it was probably canceled by the war. I agree. I get Hatty into one too. Also I have been so busy getting tile improvements up in the former Chinese lands that I have failed to put watermills over the elephants at our city in the south, Ivory expired with Industrialism, so go ahead and fix that. Keep improving the former Chinese lands, our allies pillaged them terribly. Hatty is 7 turns from Rocketry. We will get another great person in like 25 turns.

Once fiber optics come due start the Internet in Delhi. Then head towards Fusion (for the Great engineer) or towards medicine (so we can build the red cross). Then lets start trying to win this thing-Diplo won't happen, so just gun for the Space race. Actually forget heading to medicine, go fusion or rocketry and start the Apollo program somewhere. When apollo finishs start building parts everywhere and then click a golden age. Start building research in our mature cities until medicine comes in or we can start building space parts.

isn't Medicine needed for Hospitals and thus Red Cross?

Yes but the Internet will net us medicine and building 6 hospitals will be very quick red cross will take a bit longer (at that point we can just shut down research and hurry all of them). I just think that strategically the best thing to do now is to build Apollo and all the parts to the space ship except for like one SS casing while we finish up hospitals/Red cross then launch. Some of the AI will finish Apollo soon, we have not even started it, delaying it further to research medicine would (IMHO) be strategically dangerous. The AI already has a lead on us for building the space ship, fortunately the AI is pretty inept at building the spaceship (of course in all fairness the AI is not really trying to win).

Sina, sounds like you are enjoying it.

Atlas, great job on getting the 17XP guy and finishing the war. Now we don't have to go to war again in this game so great stuff.

Yeah, thanks Kanga. I'll not be getting to this for a few days though. Probably only on the weekend. As an aussie, I'll be watching the world cup tonight and will need some sleep first. This game will have to wait a few days :p .
