Naming discussion of geographical elements of our empire

River 2: [wiki]Placer[/wiki] Creek
River 1: Surrio River (anyone care to guess what this one means?)

Ocean 1: Surreal Ocean

What, no seconds? :cry:

I'm guessing something to do with indecision
Nope, though that's a good guess given the theme of the game. :lol:

It's two words in a non-English language, jammed together. One of those words means "river".

The ocean name can also be formed by two words in the same language. One of the words means "royal". :cool:

sur = south
rio = river
real = royal

South River (River)
Southern Royal Ocean

Spoiler :

It's Spanish, if you haven't figured it out by now. Yes, I know the composited words aren't real, and they wouldn't be composited in the correct sequence. :cool:

However, part of the point is to pick things which aren't immediately recognizable.

I remember in college I picked up german for my complementary class (class which is not in your field of studies) but the teacher resigned a week before school started so they gave me spanish which was my last choice of like 4 choices but i guess its easier to find a spanish teacher in canada than a German teacher or paleonthologist.

i gotta say my spanish teacher once said to me after the final exam of the year which was an oral exam that it was by far the worst oral he heard and note he ever gave to a student. this is where I replied spanish was an ugly language and spanish people are so poor all over the world I dont need it for business and that It's not my intention to go to cuba for my vacancies or any poor culture countries .(I dont really think what I said it was just retaliation) Enough to say he gave me 0.

The spoiler was not aimed at any particular individual. ;)

Interesting story though. I'd hate to find out at the last minute that a class wasn't even offered any more. Thanks for clarifying that your comment to the teacher was meant in sarcasm, as it's definitely not true.

I second Dave's names.

i know, i was not feeling bad . I just wanted to say spanish is not my cup of tea...

i'll post the polls tomorrow for he rivers

Not important, but in Castillian (called Spanish in the Americas) south is "sul".

Nevertheless, people from extreme south of Spain (and some parts of American

continent) speaks with an accent makes it look "sur".

Best regards,

Actually, surreal is a real word in english. It's means dreamlike.

So is it perhaps a bizzarre ocean? :)

not to be a nitpick, but the eastern "ocean" could technically still be a gulf, fjord, sea, or inlet. Also, albeit very unlikely, the western "ocean" could be a gulf, inlet, or sea. The southern "ocean" may not even be an ocean. I may make a map that will show one of these possibilities.

how many games of civ have you played? go to game creation turnchat! we are playing a continents standard map. Anyway if we name the western ocean "french ocean" and it's a sea (oh big difference!) we'll just name it french sea...

The answer to the question above does not matter in the Demogame. It doesn't matter if you've played thousands of Civ4 games or have never even played one. It's a community game and fellow citizens shouldn't be ignored or disregarded due to the possible lack of Civ4 experience. We can learn from everyone, no matter what or who.
