In my room!
I usually play as France in the Napoleonic Conquest but my cities always end up rioting due to the face that I'm a Republic and always at war:(. Is it good just to switch to Monarchy on your first turn or wait a little bit? Also should I exterminate my rivals first (Britain, Netherlands, Kingdom of Naples, Portugal) or the non-aligned nations first(Russia, Sweden, Ottoman Empire, Spain, Prussia, and Austria)? Oh yea and I usually play on Chieftain/Warlord.

I've played this scenario several times - always as France, really should diversify. Stay in Republic, just keep war weariness under control.

As for who to eliminate, my advice would be to sign MPPs, Military Alliances and Trade Embargos with everyone you can, particularly the nearby potential threats; Austria, Prussia and Spain. Bear in mind, that your primary goal should be to have alliances against Britain: if you sign an MA against all your enemies, then wipe one out, your MA disappears completely. Only Britain and Portugal will be there at the end of twenty turns, and only Britain after forty, if you do things right.

Once that's done, take out the Netherlands quickly. Should only take you a single turn once you have the troops positioned. While you're doing this, also send troops south to eliminate Naples. Once you've done that, gather all units except those needed to defend your conquests through Spain - obviously you'll need an RoP with them - to eliminate Portugal and capture Gibraltar. After that, concentrate on building a navy strong enough to protect your transports, and cross the channel with everything you can. Eliminate Britain.

Now you can turn your attention to everyone else. I'd suggest using your transports to cross to Scandinavia and take out Sweden, then returning to the continent to eliminate Prussia. Ensure you keep signing agreements to avoid fighting more than one civ at a time. Take out Austria next, then the Turks. Once that's done, forget about everything but taking down Russia, turn your whole production and taxation to this purpose. You should have time to do it before time runs out, if you've planned everything out.

Thanks Sharwood! You really helped me do better on that scenario! You should try playing as the Ottomans or Russia, they both have enough cities to overcome France's unit bonuses.

Actually, I want to play as the Netherlands. I want to see if I can win starting with just a single city.

I'm not sure if you can play as the Netherlands but I'll have to check...
Good point, I'd forgotten you can't play as them all. whichever one is weakest then, that's who I'll go for. Maybe Spain, or even Prussia. It's not weak, but it's surrounded on all sides, which makes things interesting.

I think I have tried Prussia... maybe not. Spain IS the weakest nation you can play imho, they don't have an "elite" infantry (the ones with 7/8 attack and defense) or cavalry... I can't remember. They are placed in an inopportune position (between two different alliances...).

I could win it with them. First, sign RoPs with both sides, watch troops march through my territory, while I build up forces. Then, join France, take out Gibraltar and Portugal. After that, march through French territory to destroy Naples. Do the same to the Netherlands, first, if it's still alive - unlikely. Once that's done, make peace with Britain at the first opportunity, then work out a deal with them, Prussia and Austria to take down France. Take Southern France before reaching a peace agreement with them.

Build up my forces again, then take it to France once more. Do this on and off until they're gone, then wipe out the Danes immediately afterwards. Once that's done, I can turn my attention to Prussia and Austria, maybe England and Sweden. I'll never conquer the whole world in time - at least, it's not likely - but I can get myself into a winning position.

You learn these little tricks if you play long enough. The most important thing is to plan ahead, a long way in advance in a game like this. I played the WWII scenario in Civ II a lot, so I've won games like this with underpowered civs before. Hell, I won WWII once with the Neutrals, that wasn't pretty or easy.
