Napoleonic Europe

Sorry i'm a newb.
I actually joined just to ask that question.

Got it to work, thanks for the reply. It looks great, good job man!

Great scenerio! Instead of bugging you about those buggin' bugs, I'm gonna congratulate you on a job well done! I've been waiting millenias for this scenerio...did I mention this is my favourite historical era? Yeah, I'm a hard core Napoleon fan, If only he could have conquered Europe...what a great world it would have been. ANywhoo, time to change that!

Thanks for stealing away countless hoours,

-Louis XIV

Thank you for the kind applause. And v1.3 is here!

Go to the Download link & re-download.
The new Performance Pack does not have the white flag fix, mainly because I can't get them to work!!!

Awesome!!! :goodjob:
Still waiting for the wonders hopefully in the next release ;)

Hey Paasky, thanks for the update. I ran the game to the 4th week of Dec 1803 IIRC and won a domination victory with the French. Everything worked fine. Game got a bit slow at the end but I think that's because of the limited memory on my computer. Had a lot of fun and did not run into any glitches or technical hiccups that I could see. Kudos on that scenario! :goodjob:

I don't know if the game needs more wonders -- although I doubt adding more would hurt the scenario. Boy, I really don't know what else you would want to do to improve the scenario. You could steal the hot air balloons from the Modern Warfare mod (IIRC), although these weren't really used much at all during that time period.

The only new thing I could think of would be "expedition" wonders representing events outside the scope of Europe that might have a bearing on local politics, economy, or warfare -- for example, the revolt of Haiti (winning or loosing money), selling off Louisiana (either extra money or extra resources unavailable in Europe), the Pyramids expedition (an extra general), the Battle of Trafalgar (an extra Admiral), etc. In some cases, in addition to building a traditional wonder, committing a certain number of actual troops and/or ships to the "expedition" would determine its chances of success. Just a thought. So far, I can only think of events affecting the French Empire, but I'm sure there would be some others of interest to other CIVs. What if foes of France could build "expedition-style" wonders to foment royalist agitation in France? They'd need to sacrifice spies and money in addition to the regular building time for that. :crazyeye:

Thanks for a great game!

I just thought of something regarding the "Agitation" wonder. Anyone can build one. You'd have to pick a target CIV and when the wonder is completed, the target CIV would get a significant number of angry citizens in its largest 3-6 cities. The only way for the target CIV to counter that would be the building of a secret police wonder.

I am kinda stumped here. I downloaded and unzipped the files to the correct folder, but when i am in the game i can seem to find the map. The only thing that i can get is the blank europe map with a worker and a camel archer

That's strange... As you get the camel archer, you've loaded the mod fine.

I'm stumped... All I can say is re-extract. Try to rar your napeuro folder (using the 'best' compression) and see is the size the same?

Did you try loading the mod by double-clicking on the WB file in the Publicmaps folder? That might do the trick for you.

As the barracks: Horse Militia & Militia can be trained anywhere. Recruits & Line Inf require Barracks. Grenadiers & Lights require Elite Barracks. Guards & Guard Cavs require Military Academy. Lancers require Stables. Hussars & Dragoons require Elite Stables.
Every Elite Barracks requires 3 normal Barracks + Barracks in that city. Same thing with Stables. Military Academy requires 3 Elite Barracks, but no Elite Barracks in the city itself.

i'm having trouble building military academies anywhere. i have plenty of elite barracks all over the place. only one military academy built (the pop up says i have two more available). great generals can't create military academies (in cities with and without elite barracks), and the option is greyed out in the normal city building options what am i missing for how i would build more? i'm playing as russia, and there is a default military academy in st. pete's.

thanks!

Same here. Could only build one military academy regardless of the fact I maxed out on barracks and elite barracks. What really threw me is that once you do build a military academy, the game still shows that you can build another elsewhere in a city that qualifies, but if you do build that new one, the older academy is removed.

okay, so there's maybe a couple of issues: building a military academy with a great general, and building one through normal city production. are the limitations the same? it looks like you have to have a unit somewhere of lvl 5 to build a military acad. w/ city production. is this same restriciton in place for building one with a great general?

and, there's also the issue of being able to build more than one at all.

edit: is it correct and intended that units requiring special structures (elite barracks, military academies) can only be upgraded from rank I to rank II in a city with those structures?

thanks!

more updates/issues/comments:

- my inability to build a military academy was due to a lack of a lvl 5 unit. once i got one, i could build them. however... i was able to build 2 military academies. when i built the second one (which should have been my third, total), the first went away (the original one in st. petersburg).

- i'm playing as russia. austria (and her allies) and i are on our second war with the french. it's currently late 1803. britain made peace w/ the french in early 1801, and can't be convinced to go to war against the french again. whatever in the world has come over those silly english???

i'm really enjoying this scenario, by the way. thanks for taking the time and effort to make it!!

It's ingame mechanics that the units can't be upgraded. Nothing I can do about it (myself atleast) and actaully that's a good thing. The units need to learn the new drills & get new weapons in those Elite Barracks :)

The Military Academy is strange atm :p So I'll make it like the default one: unbuildable.

As several others have noted, the AI doesn't like this scenario that much. The reason that GBR & FRA aren't in a permanent war is that FRA could actually form alliances after the 1st war is over.

Thanks, there's still some work to do, so expect a 1.4 at some point. And finally a 1.5 which will include civopedia texts, sid's tips, and some misc 2d-graphics.

So all this just goes into the mod folder? I tried that, but I'll try it again. Looks great though!

been playing this again recently (since i got around the MAF bug)

- highlanders I and II have a bonus against light infantry. seems like they ought to have the same bonus against light infantry II, too.

- recently, playing as britain, i took a few SE russian cities around the black sea. from a previous game playing as russia, i know that at least some of these should have the "khazak" building/culture stand-in. however, when i took these cities, it wasn't there. is there a way to get it to be preserved through city capture?

enjoying the mod!!

Well, I will look forward to it! I have only really been playing on game (GB on the medium level I think) and I tell you, it is HARD invading France. I do have Brest and the one in the Normandy area, but I cannot take the one just south of Brest, no matter haw many cannon I take. I almost get it, but then there is the 30+ militia waiting. I kind of got discouraged. I guess it was realistic though.

One thing, how on earth do you get anyone to declare war on France again? They all are going off to war with the Ottomans, and I am left facing France by myself (Again realistic I guess). Though Defensively I have it covered, 3 City Raider, 2 Drill Foot Guard II coming out every turn or so) facing there numberless militia is driving me crazy.. And they have just enough regular troops mixed in to make it harder.

Very well done though. :)
