I voted for South/SE Asian culture group (a predictable vote to those who have read my other posts), but this is a real conundrum. South/Se Asia has a lot of different groups with an overlay of the brahmanic culture (castes, temple styles, shared mythology, etc.). On the other hand, the Americas have a wide diversity of cultures. In a former incarnation I studied for about 10 years with an Apache and also with a Tewa shaman, and subsequently was a research associate at Children's TV Workshop, helping design a Native American curriculum for Sesame Street. Between all that I have had in depth on going conversations with cultural leaders for Haida, Pueblo, Navajo, Crow, Choctaw, as well as doing a lot of library research. When asked, they all said that they wanted to be identified by their individual tribe, not "Indian", not "Native American". An Inuit, an Iriquois, and an Incan are really, really different from each other; yet lumping them into some other culture group that has nothing to do with the Americas doesn't make sense either.
