E)the Mongols are hardley the best empire in history, thet would not even make the top 100 IMNSHO

Historians everywhere keep stating that the mongol empire was the most successful, largest and most remarkable empires in history. If you dissmiss the mongols it only show's how uninterested and ignorant you are about their history

XIII has already stated time and time again that Song China (that is to say the southern of the three Chinese empires) is considered by the Chinese to be the Golden Age of China. The Jurchen Jin (that is the northern Kingdom) fielded armies of millions against the Mongols and still lost. The Tangut state of Xi-Xia was subjugated earlier and was never really strong.

Also, the Shahdom of Khwarazm is considered to have been the most powerful empire in the world before the Mongols. It ruled over Western Turkestan, Iran, Afghanistan, and parts of Russia and the Caucasus. It fell in two advances only to the Mongols.

The Mongols conquered the Russians in the infamous 'Russian Winter'. The Mongols actually preferred warfare in the extreme heat or extreme cold and could easily thrive in such locations.

Also Mongol armour was very hard to penetrate. They wore silk under their leather and/or metal armour which easily defectled arrows and slinged rocks.

I have little doubt that if the Mongols set out to conquer America, they could do it easily. Also, I reckon the Mongols would be in the top five empires of all time in any historians list, and personally I reckon they are the greatest.

@Mongoloid Cow (about the Shahdom of Khwarazm ) was that most powerfulk at the time, or in the world (I would dispute both)

I suppose it alse depends on wxactley what kind of an empire list, but, in ant case, the mogols would get second or third place for size, but are one of last in terms of importance

that DOSE NOT mean they were important, last time I heard, it was Mongol culture that forimng the very basis of global culture, unlike that of the classical western civilizations- its CONTRABUTIONS that make empires great, not territory, which is only good for fame, and thats exactley what the Mongols are -FAMOUS, but not great

I will not be able to forward any responses till after school, as I have to go now (unless i skip a block or two with a friend, then I might, but Ineed to attend math class today, so its unlikelly at best)

khwarazm was easly in the top 3, no question

@xen give me a link on obsidian clubs penetrating steel, my memory of cortes and the aztec's tell me a reason for their sucess was the fact in the first 2 or so battles against their soon to be allie they lost zero men--in battles invovling 10's of thousands. almost every spaniard haf wounds on the arms and legs but zero fatal wounds due to their weapons could NOT penetrate a steel breast plate

dont know a website, but it said so as a quote in a Cortes biography I had to do a report on when i was in 6th grade

I believe we're talking about whether the Mongols can conquer the Americas? As such, obviously we'll talk about the military aspect of the Mongol imperial enterprise.

Culture is useless against an invincible army led by very competent and dedicated people. Like the Nan-Song had found out, by 1279.
