Nature Units

I have done a number of searches of the forums and the unit library thread but couldn't find anything so perhaps it is this link..?

Thanks for using some of the nature units.:)
....Have you tried my 'Defeat Into Victory II' scenario and seen the various armoured units that I uploaded a few months ago?

Rhodie: I'm in love with your nature units, that's how much I like them. All of them have found their way into the steampunk mod one way or another. My problem is that (and I'm not saying you do this) so many good units never make it to the download database, so that threads like this are always necessary. I keep reading "that unit is in the so-and-so mod" or "you can find that here"; okay, then why isn't it in the database? That's what the database is for, for chrissake. Even a mod maker who wants to keep a unit out until a mod is ready for release has no reason not to make it publicly available (in the database) once that mod has been released. It's sloppy and it's lazy, and defeats the whole purpose of an open creative forum. I know this falls in the category of general rant, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The last time I went off on this subject there followed a slew of postings saying, "I always post my stuff". I don't want to hear that. I want to hear, "You know, you're right. I just uploaded a bunch of stuff to the database." That would make me happy.

P.S. to Civinator: you're reaching the point where a general index of all your great ideas would really be useful.

I believe he did upload all his units to the database, armored units and all.

edit, wait

My problem is that (and I'm not saying you do this)

now I'm confused as to why this came up...

Go to the database. Search: Civinator, thunder, volcano. Find anything? That's what set me off, but I was trying not to direct my comments to Civinator himself, because this is so ridiculously common, and I really like his work. I've been looking for weeks for a mines-as-houses file that I used to have that is buried somewhere in a thread (and it's not the one in the database). No luck. Same with an irregular borders file that used to be here, somewhere. It's enough to make me scream. Didn't mean to take it out on anyone in particular, though.

P.S. I realize that I've made far too much about this. Sorry rhoadie.

Thank you for the positive words Balthasar. :) Such an index exists (at least for a big bunch of my new game concepts for C3C) and that´s called CCM. Rhodie kindly rewrote sides of information for the (only readable forum) at SOC "CCM-The Information Sector" what will go public in the next weeks before the start of the public betatests of CCM. :)

Rhodie also made an index for that forum.

Additionally ideas for fixed maps (p.e. the CCM-earth-map that will come later than CCM for random maps) are in that thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=172250

There also exists a thread in a German forum listing not only all my ideas about modding Civ 3, but also a lot of modding ideas by other Civ 3 modders, that are partly not so well known : http://www.civforum.de/showthread.php?t=51905

The German Civ 3 Wikipedia also includes a lot of my modding ideas for Civ 3.

Rhodie:
I'm planning on using some of these units in the next release
of my HOF and TOS scenarios. Are you planing to do any more
of these nature units( I could use an iceberg and a blizzard)?

It's been a while, but in between helping with the new CCM mod, I managed to create an Iceberg unit. I'll try to do something about a 'blizzard' unit when I can.
Here is the link: Iceberg
I've still got to add it to the download database.

Another fine nature unit!:goodjob::)

I love it! The sounds are great too.

rhodie, the iceberg is another very unique and well done new unit. The Titanic has no chance. :)

I think these units would be better placed in the Other units section of the database, not Modern Units. You can edit them and change the category, nothing else would be changed.

No offense Wyrmshadow, but I notice that you've just put Adolph Hitler (among other units) into the "Industrial Units" section of the database, which is for units 1700 - 1900 according to the title page. Oops. On the other hand, I agree that these Nature units belong in the "Other" section, so that I can find them.

Then why do Tanks and Panzers, and Fighter planes appear in the Industrial Era of the game and Modern Armor and Fighter Jets appear in the Modern Era.
THAT is why I put WW2 units there.

I dunno; that's a great question. The database isn't divided into the same four eras as the classic game, though. More and more, neither are the new mods. Inasmuch as I've been working on two mods that take place entirely in the 19th century, I can say it's a little annoying to have to sort through biplanes to get to cowboys in the database. But I sympathize with your dilemma; there's naturally alot of war material available, and the categories provided don't help to keep them adequately separate. One possible solution would be to explain the problem to a moderator (I think you might have some pull) and try to get the modern era divided into two: 1900 - 1950, and 1950 to the present. Then try to get everything sorted into their proper categories. I could get behind that. The wrong solution, one would think, would be to misfile everything so that it can be more easily found - as if that makes any sense. I'm with you, though, on any petition to divide the "modern era" in the database and create an "early modern era", or somesuch.

I believe that you are correct. Nature has been around a lot longer than just the modern era. :) They will be moved soon. Thanks.

Now that I`ve had the time to view the flcs for the Iceberg more intensively I really must say that the Iceberg_Death.flc looks very exceptional. How it crumbles into pieces looks really very realistic to me (despiting the fact that I`ve never seen it in the real world).
Surely one of the most interesting units we have here.

To move them into the other units section was a needed step. (I will find them in any case.)
