NBA: Shaq, Duncan, KG, Kobe, AI, T Mac etc, who is the best in the league?

This was inspired by the other thread. Who do you think is the best player in the league: Shaq, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady or someone else. I think that on paper Shaq is still the most dominant player in the league but he has been hobbled by injuries and is out of shape enough that due to complacentcy he no longer holds that title. He no longer has the fire that he once did. Don't get me wrong, he is still a dominant player (and by far the best on the Lakers). What do the rest of you think?

Not to double post my own thread but I think that the great thing about the NBA now is that it is possible to have this conversation. Ten years ago it was the Jordan era and everybody knew who was the best. So as a secondary question how do you all think that Jordan and his Bulls would compare against the best of the West these days. Would MJ still be head and shoulders above the rest or would he be dogfighting with the West's best and trying to be the first among equals?

SHAQ-- has never played alone ( in orlando he had penny hardaway) would shaq be shaq on a 20 win team?

DUNCAN-- most likely the best allaround player but even he is struggling without david robinson

BYRANT--could be, but when shaq is out he tries too hard to "be the man" to prove he can do it without shaq that he hurts the team

GARRNETT--team player, i personly don't like him but he plays within the offense, blocks shoots, plays defence, ect...

IVERSON-- never saw a shot he didn't like-since he shoots about 35%, maybe he should

MCCGRADY--see iverson

KIDD--team and coach killer, came to cal and got coach fired, went dallas and got 2 coaches fired, went to pheonix and got coach fired, now scott in N.J. is about to get fired-- a trend maybe? a good player but destroy's the locker room

OTHERS--elton brand, antain jamerson--they get 20+ points a night with a good shooting %, 10+ rebounds, play defense and make their teammates better--but are not flashy

Tim Duncan. He's not spectacular like McGrady or Carter, but he'll always be the rock around which the defense is built and he's a good, fundamentaly sound, focal point of the Spurs offense, who'll always look to get his teammates involved.

The others?
Shaq - The most dominating player, but his biggest asset is his size/weight...

Garnett: No. 2 behind Duncan. Does it all! Lethal combination of size and speed...

Iverson: 35% shooter who'll toss it up 30 times a night.

McGrady: Same as Iverson, but he lacks AI's heart. He's laughing on the court when his team is down by 15 in the fourth quarter.

Bryant: Overrated IMHO. Anybowy can play of Shaq. I'd like to see him without help for a season. I have a strong feeling his team would be lottery bound then, like the Lakers were before Shaq came back from surgery at the beginning of last season.

Well, Duncan, Garnett & Pierce are also the heart & soul of their teams. That's not really a valid point to make him better than others, unless you're a Sixers fan

But it's very hard to compare skills - player to player, what to take as compas? Statistic? Don't think so. Title? Well, yes but it's already not comparation only one on one skill...

So it lives only your personal simphaty or your personal atitude how you see basket or what skill you value more to one player.

Shaq is ovverated, if he wasnt like 3000 pounds he would be nothing.

Jason Kidd is pretty good, but he causes way too many problems on the team.

Carmelo Anthony is phenomal and only in his 1st year.

Present Best Player: Tracy Mcgrady
Future Best Player: Carmelo Anthony

Honorable Mentions: Iverson, Kobe, Ben Wallace, Jermaine O'Neal, Garnett.


The most underrated player in the NBA is Andre Kiralenko.

Did you forget about Duncan?

Mcgrady had prblems with certaind efenses earlier this year, but he can light up the board.

Garnett has Manning syndrom, in that noone thinks he can win big games and he has, despite all his talent, never propelled his team past a round of the playoffs.

Kobe and Shaq work great in tandem, but individually I think thier overrated.

Carmelo is equal to, sometimes better, than LeBron, plus his team is winning.

I think KG is the most talented, but voted for duncan because he seems to be the best player as far as fundamentals and teamwork. It's so hard to compare because Garnett has never had the support around him that Duncan has had. (Then again, maybe he did, but Duncan just made his team look better :hmmm: )

Kings are be(a)st now, without Webber. You have to give credit to Stojakovic. My vote would go to TMAC on East and Peja on West, 2nd and 3rd scorers in league. First is Allen Iverson, but he shoots much more than these two guys, especially more than Peja.
