NCSG IV - The Return of the Mummy!

I agree with Groo. We COULD win this but it would be a long slog. I can't be arsed to go through that - NCSG III is turning in to one of those.

The more I think about my set the more I'm annoyed at my poor play. Sorry guys.

My diplo game was pretty rubbish.

It probably wouldn't be an arid map (unless thats what people wanted).

Here's the save.

I'm inclined to agree somewhat with grandad. Although I dislike bailing from games, and think this is winnable if we put in effort, it would definitely require that everyone bring their "A" game. While it definitely is possible, it moves out of the realm of "enjoyable" once that happens. We also don't have the luxury to make mistakes and learn in that case.

We should probably come up with some variant that half of us are good at, and the other half are not, so then we have at least a vague idea of what we are doing. I confess that I know nothing about running an espionage economy, and it probably showed .

Maybe we might want to dial down the difficulty one notch as well? We seem to be running into snags, where there's some great difficulty every other NC game (Team 1 bailed from SGII, while Team 2 slogged on for a very hard fought victory, while in NCSGIII it took us forever to claim our continent, and we aren't even out of it yet). I'm simply thinking that our performance as a team has some difficulty with Monarch (while Noble is obviously too easy). It would also allow us to attract some fresh blood from the Noble's Club, as I still believe that SGs are one of the best ways to learn the game.

Well by saying I'm not sure we can catch up, I'm not saying it's hopeless... rather that we would all have to play in top-form as others have mentioned... and yes, that's not a whole lot of fun...

I have enough trouble on Prince at times to vote this is a good place to play for me... and perhaps we still go with a wonder-economy theme, but add some guidelines such as using the whip at least once per turnset (while we are in slavery) or some other such thing to stretch us where we are collectively a bit uncomfortable.

I'd really like to stay on Monarch(I just left Prince), but if we'd like to dial it down, I wouldn't mind. However, if we do move down to prince, we should keep the espionage aspect in.

I'm personally comfortable with Monarch as well. I merely suggested a step down because it seems that we are hitting a lot of snags in the games we run, so to ease some pain we could choose an easier difficulty, or a less restrictive variant.

We also need a sensible plan no matter what we decide to do. The lack of a plan is evident in the early stages of NCSG3, where we had some close calls and economic troubles through the entire first half.

A wonder-based strategy is something I haven't considered on Prince and up (except for the Mids, or late game wonders where you have a considerable advantage) simply because those hammers can be better allocated to units and expansion. Since I'm not familiar with any high level-wonder based strategies, something like that would definitely be a learning experience for me.

I'd like to stay at Monarch, although I don't mind too much if we drop down a level, just whatever everyone wants I guess. I've just started getting my head around beating Monarch so I'm keen to stay in that zone! :scan:

I'd still like to re-run this game running just the religious side of the varient, I've never had a go at supplementing my economy with the full set of religious wonders.

Just had a thought, if we do roll a new start we could call the new thread "the return of the return of the Mummy"

So whats going on? Are we rolling a new start? Are going down to prince or changing the varient?

Ok. Looks like we stay Monarch and roll a new map.

I agree that we should focous our plan more. I'm up for the RE. We should save the espionage for a PHI leader I reckon.

Things to decide.

1. Arid still?
2. Pangea still?
3. "Return of the Return of the Mummy" or my personal favorit "The Mummy Strikes Back!"

1.No I say temperate
2.Yes
3.Guess

1. Bad call by me wanting arid. Temperate is fine.

2. RE will be made a bit more difficult by one landmass, but if we stick to a plan, we should be fine.

3. Doesn't really matter to me what it's called :p.

Temperate is my preference.

Pangea or Fractal.

@silver
I reckon the single landmass means that we will be able to exploite religious differences but will need a deft touch on the diplo game to survive.

Will roll a start tonight if I get the chance.
