I'm hoping that people can help me with this.

I own a version of Civ III that will not work with the Civ3Edit program. For me, half the fun is building my own worlds. I have a legal copy of Civ III v.1.29b2.

I may or may not (I don't have the CD with me and I'm trapped at work far, far away from it) have a copy of 1.21.

You must have a copy of 1.21 or older, as 1.29b2 is only an updater. If you have an older version than 1.21g then you can update it to 1.21g for use with Civ3Edit by using the updater on the MacSoft site.

And unless you are evading the locks, Civ3 1.21g will require a CD to run.

You have my apologies.

I really don't know entirely what the situation is; I got the game as a birthday gift and -frankly- I'm just confused as to why so many things don't work. I guess the only way to fix this will be to buy another copy of the game from scratch?

Mine was a Christmas gift. It was a boxed copy of version 1.16, installed with no problem, and updated immediately to version 1.21g from MacSoft's web site. As soon as 1.29b2 arrived I updated to that. I can still create 1.21g at any time by reinstalling 1.16 from CD and then applying the 1.21g updater, and it will run if I plug in the 1.16 CD.

If you have the CD you received for your birthday you should be able to do the above like me. If you don't have a CD then you don't have a legal copy and you will need to buy one. It's pretty cheap on eBay, they tell me.

Hey! That could work! :)

I should have thought of that, immediately!

Ok, I'll try it tonight and see if that works... Thank you for your advice!

THAT DID IT!

Alan, thank you VERY much; that solved all my problems!

Y'know, if the people at MacSoft had given me the simple instructions you had, I'd have had this problem licked MONTHS ago!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yours,
Sylvan (Dave)
