Need for Greed....

I am in need of a quote to fill out a puzzle I am writing. My best find is just not quite good enough.

Anyone who could suggest a quote that will fit into my scenario would be greatly appreciated.

The setup: A man, who is a jewel thief, is writing a letter to his mistress. The man has recently realized that he is in a LOT of danger and wants to end his letter with a quote that will tip his girlfriend off that something is wrong without telling her anything directly. His intent is that, if he gets killed or arrested his girlfriend will not be entirely caught off guard, BUT if he does not get killed or arrested, his girlfriend will not know that he is a criminal.

A quote that a thief would think made thievery or greed noble would be very appropriate, or a quote that tied lust for riches (specifically rubies or diamonds) in with blood would also be perfect.

The quote that I am currently settled on is:
What less right have I to wage war upon the world than he who has a thousand sail of ships upon the sea? --some pirate captain (maybe Black Sam Bellamy?)

I have two problems with my current quote. First, it is not quite what I want. Second, I do not know for sure who said it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no particular quote in mind but anything alluding to Robinhood might do the trick, although it might be a little bit cliché.

Take, n. and v.t. To acquire, frequently by force, but preferably by stealth. -Ambrose Bierce, Devil's Dictionary

The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

-Gordon Gecko, from the movie "Wall Street".
