Only one tip, for your next game. You wrote:

When you have 2 or 3 turns left before finishing Scientific Method,
look at your cities and decide which has a good rate of shields per turn,
and will be building the ToE. Switch that city to building the palace.
Not that you will actually complete the palace -- that's not the point.

One can switch builds from the palace to Great Wonders with no penalty,
as long as you have not done any rushbuying of shields, or forest chops
to add shields. This tactic is known as a "prebuild", and lets you get
a head start on building a wonder. It is a key advantage that the human
has over the AI players.

This becomes important as you move up in difficulty (say, to Warlord or
Regent). If you're worried that an AI might beat you to a wonder,
start your prebuild even earlier -- when you *start* researching SciMethod.
It is literally putting shields in the bank, so when you switch the build
to Theory of Ev, it will take fewer turns to complete.

If you have a city on a river, you may want to try doing a prebuild for
Hoover Dam. The palace is a popular choice for a shield bank, but
one could also use another high-shield city improvement, like a Hospital,
Stock Exchange, or Colosseum, if you want to do a prebuild in your capital.

Vorlon- Thanks for your tip. I forgot about prebuilding the Palace. I guess I'm so comfortably in front of the else of the civs, that I assume I'm going to get the Wonder. But that advice will help when I move up a level.
Lurkers- If you were me, would you attack someone else? What techs would you research? Once I get the Theory of Evolution, what 2 techs should I use it on?

When I'm a couple of turns away from completing the Theory of Evolution, I check to make sure I have all the optional techs that I usually don't worry about in Deity or Emperor (Monarchy, Free Artistry, etc). I also buy Communism, Sanitation and Espionage if I don't have them, and then set research onto Combustion, because the ToE isn't going to give you anything you're already researching. I want everything directly proceeding from Combustion (Refining, Steel, etc) to be off limits so the ToE will give me the only other techs possible - Atomic Theory and Electronics. Of course, I'll already have started a prebuild for the Hoover Dam. If the Hoover Dam prebuild is almost done, I'll sell Atomic Theory to all the other civs for big bucks and Combustion, Refining, etc.

As long as you have the resources you need via trade, I would avoid further wars. It's hard to get a humbled nation to vote for you in the UN, in my limited experience. Remember the ultimate goal -- that trumps a fair number of more limited concerns.

Yup, definitely agree. You want to win this game by diplomacy.
The AI you have just finished whuppin' will be furious with you for a while.
The others can be bribed / encouraged to be your friends, and vote for you.
You will want to sheath your swords / holster your guns, unless someone
attacks you first.

Consider which nation is likely to be #2, and start looking for sweetheart
trades with the others. (I'm at work, so I can't open the save right now)
Sweetheart trades include things like selling them luxuries for *less*
than their asking price; giving them a technology as a gift; giving them
some gold as a gift.

Which techs to choose from ToE? Map out which ones you need to get
the UN built, and choose the most expensive (most turns required) from
that list. You want to build the UN, so that you can choose when
the election takes place. For instance, if you haven't sufficiently bribed
the other AI when you first build the UN, you can choose not to hold
elections. Continue spreading the wealth around, and hold the elections
next time.

You are getting close to the UN. Identify who is in second place for land area (or first if it isn't you), and get ROP's and MPP's with every civ other than that civ. Before signing the ROP make sure every city and town has at least one Inf, Mech Inf, and/or Tow Inf (AI civs will ROP rape if there is an unguarded city. Always.). At least two in more wonder-heavy cities. Hold off on this until you have learned Fission and have started the UN. MPP plus ROP grants big bonus to other civs' good will. Try to time this so the pacts will only be a few turns old when you finish the UN. Another good thing to do would be to get trade embargos against the AI civ you are isolating. If you end up at war with the odd-man-out, don't worry too much about it, just get alliances with the other civs along with the MPP's and ROP's. Just don't take so much land that another civ becomes the #2.

Sooner? Wow, you got rocketry in the 1400s, and got the UN in 1440.
That's pretty fast already!

The only comment I would make would concern the pre-build for the U.N.
You started it in Lyons, and collected shields for a few turns while Paris
was still on Wealth...Paris was basically selling those shields for cash.
Then, rather than using the shields which Lyons had been saving in its
"account" a.k.a. pre-building, you choose Paris to build the UN.

You should have switched Lyons from Shakes to the UN, not to Manhattan.
Now, you didn't lose many turns, because Paris had a high enough production
rate to build the UN in 5 turns.... but you did lose a few. If you had built
the UN in Lyons, then that would have made better use of the pre-build.
If you have some shield overflow... oh, well! The victory comes just that much sooner.

Vorlon: I had originally wanted to build the U.N. in Lyons, but it would've taken 26 turns. I didn't want to wait that long, so I switched building it in Paris. I'm not sure why Lyons took so long to build anything, it had plenty of resources. Was there anything else that I could improve on?
