my evil history teacher has told us towrite an essay on ww2, i got the A bomb thingy, so if anyone knows anything about it (wich i believe you do) write it, and please post the sources and links and stuff like that

thanks

oh, and try to put as little opinion and as much facts as possible so not to turn this in to a discussion thread (that can be done later though if you want)

You poor civfanatic. The last time this issue came up, something like 150 posts carried through with everybody beating the crap out of each other. There were some useful references to some good books on the subject.

I encourage you to go back there and look rather than inviting new posts on this issue to spare us all the inevitable bloodbath.

Search back a month or two: the thread was called "Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Speak Out" in World History if I'm not mistaken.

R.III

The thread title was misspelled by the creator :)

You'll find the thread as:
Hiroshina and Nagasaki -- Speak out!, RMSharpe.

Use the 'Search' feature and type in keywords like:
Hiroshima, Manhattan, WWII, WW, World War, or the obvious 'Atom bomb'.

Edit:
Hoping for unadulterated, unopinionated, non-nationalistic, balanced, historically accurate information, eh?

If you want to do it on something other than the actual building of bomb, do a report on the soviet spy network infiltration the atomic bomb project. Just search Klaus Fuchs, (the german socialist) and you'll get tons of info.

For a good book, try great true spy stories, written by Allen Dulles.

If you can change the project at all though, send me a PM, and I'll upload my power point presentation abouut Strategies, Tactics, Logistics, and a general timeline of WWII, in most major theatres.

I have made a quiz about the Manhattan project a few weeks ago.
Here: Manhattan Project Quiz - The Building of the Atomic Bomb
See end of the post for the full answers!

There are 20 questions and the answers to the most important events in the US atomic bomb project up until the drop on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
These are the facts which every essay should include.

If you have further questions feel free to ask me here!
:D

So this is what passes for research these days? Exactly how would you cite this source? Ah well, whatever you are comfortable with.

There's nothing wrong with using an internet source these days. Hell, I use them all the time for my university essays. The trick is to double check everything you read on the internet, and never, ever use a dubious looking site.

I think you might get some decent background if you look at Richard Feynman's involvement in building the bomb - I'm not saying this should be a focal point, but you would get some interesting human background with respect to the guys who built it.

I'm not questioning the use of Internet sites so much as going to a forum and asking other people to point you towards them. I used the internet all the time for a variety of undergrand and graduate papers, but it never occured to me to go out and ask other people to tell me what resources to use.

However, as I said earlier, whatever a person is comfortable with.
