Need testers for new editor

Yes i agree Steph what i meant is that you can have only 8196 active units on a map for all civilizations.
A city cannot produce the 8197st and building or wonder autoproducing units doesn't work anymore until you have 8195 units or less on the map
Not sure of that number but it's more than 8 thousands

That would be one huge mod in size, to have 10,000+ different unit graphics (are there even that many total available?) It would be a 2-3+ GB download!

Steph, can your new editor that changes per era allow to have terrain graphics change also? It would be interesting to have slight terrain changes show throughout history as times become more modern.

It's not necessarilly different graphics.
For instance, for the Gaul, I have the same graphics for Bronze age swordsman and early Iron age swordsman, with a slight boost in attack, then the late iron age swordsman has different graphics and better stats.

Indirectly. When you change era, the game monitor computes an "average era", and modify the scenario search folder properties.
So if you organize folders with Era1, Era2, Era3, etc, and put different graphics in that for irrigation for instance, then the irrigation graphics will change with the average era.
Not perfect as you cannot make it change for each civilization.
And beside the graphics, you can also modify the attributes with the average era. Like give +1 food in the first era, and +2 in the modern era (but here again, it would apply to every civ).

Hi Steph,

I'm coming into your editor quite late, just downloaded it and tried it for the first time tonight. I'm getting the attached error message. Is it because of some kind of file permission I haven't granted in Windows 7 perhaps, or is there a bug in the program?

Cheers, Mithadan

Edit: here's the full text of the error message --

Are you sure you have the correct version of the Framework? I think if you use the version just before, you could get somethign similar : the program starts, but cannot read string properly.

Try to check if you have Framework 3.5

Try changing the file name to a simple one, like "1234.biq".

It worked for me when I met the similar problem. :)

I'll try both of those things, but how do I know what version of "Framework" I have? Never heard of it! :)

You can use "RegEdit" or "Search" (Windows tool) to see which version you have.
Just search for "Framework" and it should give you the version number via foldername.

If you never used "RegEdit" better try your luck with "search" first. Don`t change anything inside RegEdit and it should be safe to use.

Well, changing the .biq filename to "Steph" doesn't work.

I have downloaded the installer for Framework 3.5, but running the installer does nothing at all -- I'll have to try it again later, maybe.

In the Meantime: isn't it possible to crop maps in the standard C3C editor? I thought I heard that it was, but now going back to it I can't for the life of me figure out how.

Good to know. For some reason, I thought cropping worked with the existing editor and I'd just forgotten how to do it!

Back to attempting to update my Framework...

Well, I couldn't install Framework 3.5 but I did manage to install Framework 4.0.

However, I get the same error message as before, and renaming the biq to something really simple doesn't work either. (I named it "Steph"!)

Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 Professional, if that makes any difference.

Well, I got it to work! But I had to uncompress the .biq -- for some reason I thought your editor could work on compressed .biqs, but no matter. Now I have to try your map cropper! :D

Congratulation~ :)

Yes, sometimes it makes error when opening an uncompressed file. But it is no doubt a powerful tool, happy modding with it ~ :)

Normally it should. But it's safer to work on uncompress files anyway.

Good to know, thanks!

Hey Stpeh- does your editor have a diplomacy editor in it? What about a graphical text tree editor. Does it (and those aforementioned features) work with Civ 3 Complete/The Steam version of the game?

The only diplomacy editor is what you have in the regular editor: the locked alliance.
Other diplomacy agreements are not available in the biq format and cannot be edited.
This could be done only in a save game editor.

Please specify graphical tech tree editor. What I have included is the possibility to graphically modify the location of techs, to help organize. But it will not make the science advisor screen for you, just use the existing one.

I don't have these civ versions, I have Civ3/PTW/Conquest regular versions, so I know it works with that.

For the other versions, only someone who actually has it could confirm.

I got some trouble with this editor about unit32.pcx files.
I seam to get the standard unit32 file all the time. Not the unit32 files that comes with each scenario. Those specific unit32 files are placed down in the folder like CCM/art/units and I can´t reload any unit32 file but the standard. CCM have over 1800 pictures in that but only some 300 plus in the standard.

Is it a folder placed wrong or your exe-program should be in a different folder than all the other editor and game exe-files.

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Conquests\CCM\art\units
is a very good and workable folder possition for all other editors placed in
this possition
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests

Since each scenario/mod have it´s own unit32.pcx file the standard need to be left alone and whatever changes should be in the possition they are in all mods.
So whats wrong (Guess me with my eyesight or mind)
