Need to constantly verify game files :(

Can't find this elsewhere. I have G+K, and with the latest patch, when I got 2/3 into the game, it would crash. When I reloaded, it would run for a few turns then crash. Thereafter, it would crash every turn.

So I verified the game files and lo and behold, 2 files were missing. Reinstalled, the game ran fine for a couple of turns then crashed. Verified game files, 2 files missing. Re-installed them, ran the game, 1 turn later, crashed. Verified game files. 2 files missing.

I'm sure you can detect the pattern here! Any idea what could be causing this?

It seems that two files will always be reacquired every time you verify the integrity after running the game. For example, see Firaxian dshirk's post in this thread:

Could you try running a verify local file integrity within Steam? If everything is proper, you will only see 2 files re-acquired. Also, was there a specific civ you were starting with?

To help troubleshoot your crashes, please attach a copy of your DXDIAG file and any crash dump files that were created around the time your game crashed. These files have an extension of .mdmp and are located in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V (assuming you installed the game in the default location). You'll need to zip these files before attaching them.

ETA: And a save game from right before a crash might also be helpful.

I played out your save file to turn 296, achieving a cultural victory. So it seems that something in your system is causing the problem. Your DxDiag shows that your video driver is dated 8/30/2012. That's fairly recent, but you might look for a more recent one if you haven't already done so. The_J knows a lot about specific video cards (You have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460). If he reads this thread perhaps he can comment on whether your card is capable of playing the game. I'll post your DxDiag file here for convenience.

Cheers mate. That's very helpful. My mate built the machine for me, so I'll ask him as well as getting the drivers updated.

Thanks :), but that's a bit of an exaggeration :D.

The graphics card should be totally sufficient to run the game on the highest settings.
Updating the driver is always something to recommend, but I think all other game problems were either related to Intel or to ATI graphics, and not to Nvidia cards yet :hmm:...but you never know.

Else...:dunno:. If Petek can play it to it's end, then it's not a Civ5 problem, but something on your machine....probably. Petek, do you have a 64 bit OS?
Because in the end game Civ5 can struggle a bit with the memory (I guess most people have noticed that), and 32 bit vs. 64 bit could make some difference on the biggest maps.

Petek, do you have a 64 bit OS?

Yes, Win7 64x. Also, since it's not obvious from my prior post, I played more than 50 turns (without crashing) from the save file.

Hi chaps. Thanks for your continued help.

I've only had the computer a couple of months. The only time it ever crashed was when I had a rubbish start and I started the game again.

I've only noticed it crashing like this since the patch. The later I get into the game, the more it crashes. I just tried loading it again and playing it in strategic view, and it crashed before I even finished the turn (i.e. open a menu - crash). I guess it could be a memory issue. My mate who built the PC and knows about this sort of thing suggested the 32 bit vs 64 bit.

He's going to have a look at it over the weekend so if he discovers anything useful, I'll let you know.

Thanks again!

Richelieu I hope you find whats causing it. I have a similar but somewhat different problem. Perhaps we can get a patch for our patch lol.

Sorry for the delay in reporting back.

It turned out cos I hooked my PC up to my telly, but because it wasn't a full HD telly, I had it on some weird resolution.

Since I hooked it up to a monitor with a normal resolution it has NEVER crashed, either on loading or when I get late into the game. Hopefully this will be useful to some of you!
