Negative climate change - no effect?

Capturing carbon emissions does not reverse climate change, even if temperature goes low as -7 compared to Ancient Era?

There should be some effects on climate if temperatures were lower so much, right?

I don't think there are any mechanics for negative carbon emissions.

While there would be some effects, they wouldn't be equal to the positive or even do a lot. You've melted 85% of the worlds polar caps, which is now liquid and so acting as a thermal bath - retaining heat. It will also increase water content in the air, and act as a greenhouse gas - and is one of the most potent. You'd have to refreeze the polar caps to return to normal, and merely removing some CO2 isn't going to do that, I'm afraid. So it's not too far from realistic to not reverse it.

To add to linklites well written reply, our planet has its own ways of dealing with its cycles… which last for hundreds of thousands of years. Our goals is just to undo our meddling, as far as its possible. But the “return to normal” will take ten thousand of our lifetimes. Damage is irreversible now.

I'm ok with this being a no return thing, I just wish they spared a few hours to find and fix the bug they introduced for the whole game with the Apocalypse pack, where deforestation starts at maximum value, when it starts, and retroactively increases everyone's carbon footprint overnight, so the world sinks almost immediately and that leaves virtually no window to use those carbon capture projects.

800 000 years?

It won't take that long.

I also do agree with the OP that I think it's possible to correct for current warming, and that this would indeed lead to the return of larger ice caps and glaciers and such (let's be real, we have ample historical evidence of that happening, such as with the Little Ice Age that followed the Warm Medieval Period), but at the same time I can't really blame Firaxis for considering that outside the scope of the game with the carbon recapture project. If you haven't won by then it's because you're deliberately avoiding the win anyway, why spend a ton of development time on it?

Ok, but carbon recapture is useless in that case. By the time you research it on Deity level you have either won/lost and failed to prevent climate change. AI will cause climate change even if you have zero emissions.

I played more than 2,800 hours, mostly on Deity level, and I never found carbon recapture useful. I am not talking only about world polar caps, what about low temperature conditions that would have effect on terrain? Surely some areas would have more snow, lower tempratures and would not be productive as they used to be?

Has anyone found carbon recapture useful? Did it help you in any way to win the game?

I haven't exactly found it useful either, however as I understand it, the reason for running it is the direct benefits you get from it.

Honestly, if you ask me seriously, I'd say anything Information Era and after, arguably even Atomic Era and after, isn't relevant to the game anymore. Not just this specific Future Era thing.
