OMG

For some time I have been wondering why my citizens would become happy after someone declared war on me, and look what I found:

'If war is declared on you, it actually (temporarily) decreases WW because everyone gets behind the war efforts. If you declare war it goes up.'

 That post was from a very old thread that got ressurected, but it is good to know it may be the answer to my confusion. I have posted a thread here before asking the same question, but no-one could answer it for me.

My only question now is how come I have noticed my citizens become happier after this happens, when it is the first time I have been at war, so no ww could possibly exist.

The only thing I can think is that I actually ran a negative ww value, causing happiness. :hmm:

I have plenty of saves to back up these observations, including ones where I am in monarchy.

Thoughs, ideas, laughter in my general direction, anything appreciated...

I experienced the same in all my games, thought it is common knowledge. If someone declares war on me, I got 1 or 2 happy faces more in each city. Also I think (but can't confirm) that if an old enemy declares war the happiness stays longer/is higher.

Well, for me it is observed and expected bahaviour, but since I have not read anything on it I thought it would be good to throw it open and see if anyone had some hard facts and figures.

I still find it difficult to think of having a drop in WW when there is none to start with, although it is what I see...

I don't think I've ever seen a formula posted for WW, but since WW would be represented by a calculated number, I suppose it's possible to have a negative value.
I never thought of it as negative War Weariness, but just a surge of patriotism resulting in increased happiness.

This is why you will notice the better players go out of their way to get the AI to declare war on them. Why start on the down side.

Wow i never knew that. That is very helpful that the you get happy people if the AI declare war upon you. I mean, i am always in repulic or democracy and then my citizens celebrate and all my cities are happy because i was at war. For awhile i thought it was a bit weird.

Interesting. This means that the same applies to the AI -- when you declare war on a civ, its citizens get a happiness boost. Not that happiness going to stop your tanks :) but still something to keep in mind.

Yes, negative WW, actually I mentioned it to you once before in this thread:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34848&highlight=negative+weariness

It was also discussed in the War Weariness Details thread, which was started by my very first post.

I first heard about the 'traditional enemy' in this thread:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39916&highlight=traditional+enemy
which DaveMcW participated in and Catt brought up the 'traditional enemy' issue. From the discussion in this thread it seems that you may even get negative WW while in monarchy.

The only downside to negative WW is that it is easy to forget about, thus causing riots when you do finally come to peace.

:rotfl:

Hey, Gothmog, can you tell me what trousers I was wearing last Tuesday?

But seriously, thank-you. The first time it came around it must have gone in one ear and out the other...

...although looking at the second link, it seems to have been nailed down more explicitly now. :D

Cheers

Well lets see...

Search: anarres AND trousers AND "January 21"

but seriously I am always looking for more info about WW, it's a pet project of mine. I am still wondering if it has been reduced in PTW, or if I am really that much better at handling it.
