Expansion continued in the world, city states became kingdoms, empires, republics and confederations. For the first time trade began to become an important source of revenue and cultural dilution. Infrastructure and education was becoming very high in some places. The tradition of spending money in infrastructure and education would soon flourish in good returns if such funding was not cut short.
But as men invented the plow to raise crops, man invented the sword. Neighbors had also money and land. Why not take it from them? For first time did we encounter the institution of war. Such actions were rarely seen in hunting and gathering groups, and too in pastoral ones. But those days were long gone, agrarian civilization had taken root. Trade, luxury and knowledge would go hand in hand with blood, war and destruction.
The first of these wars from which historians have enough archeological information was that between the Troy and Byzantine. Constantine was obsesed with expansion in the Aegean, he knew that it was strategically inportant, and taking it from the greeks entirely would mean control of the trade. The war began after a massive conscription of troops. They took the colony of troy in europe. But this was w/ casualties, 6 divisions were lost in the storming of the city. (Note that now Constantine had the option of pillaging and destroying the city (getting one spending point that turn). or try to hold it and keep it after winning the war). Troy reacted fast, her capital had the mightest of walls and towers. It was said that it couldnt be stormed, they said that Apollo protected it. And it did. Troy survived the initial attempt to take it, and the mountains made it imposibble to completely surround and put under siege. Constantine would have to storm the city, take it by force, by trickery?, or sign a good diplomatic deal.
The other Greek powers, the great Athens and Sparta remained out of the conflict.
From Troy :
To Constantine:
let us trade and live in peace!. you can have our colony and the city in it if you give us peace. This peace would be held together by your honor... breaking it would be seen bad in the eyes of the gods of Olympus!.
