UPDATE FOUR
Peace in the Aegean came with an agreement of
Troy to cede its colonies to
Byzantium. This was a somewhat harsh, but desperate peace the people of Troy had to endure. The giving up of the colonies meant economic estagnation and it is at this point that Troy would start to decline as a power in the Aegean.
But while the Great powers of
Athens and
Sparta refused to help Troy, they are aware of the growing power of Byzantium. To counter this, Prince Alekandor of Sparta and princess Aphrothene of Athens have concluded a marriage. Linking the two nations into an uneasy Mutual protaction pact linked by royal blood. Altough because no threat is yet to be seen, the nations remain separate and independendent from each other.
Byzantium traders encouter a new people never seen before, they are known as the People of
Crimea. Everything seems friendly and embasadors are exchanged.
War In Italy started as a surprise to the citizens of
Rome (but not its Generals).
Venice had problems w/ the Roman roadblock on their path for expansion. They were ready and believed that a war starting w/ a surprise attack would be strong enough to tople the City of Roma.
But the Roman Generals were no fools, and neither was its Senate. Prior to the invasion, extensive increase of the army was done. The Roman army was getting ready for a future campaign when the Venetians struck on the soft underbelly of Rome.
Using their fleet, the Venetians went around the south of Italy and landed on its sourthern city. They took the romans completely by surprise here. Taking the city w/ a few casualties. After taking it, they took whatever was of value and burned the city to the ground. Most Romans in the city were also killed.
With the money from the now destoryed city of Vernacius, Venice had now some extra temporary capital
(+1 spending point this next turn).
The Romans sent their fleet against the Venetians. 15 vs 10 squadrons. Not only were the Venetians favored in numbers, but they also had more expertise in sailing. The Roman Navy suffered a defeat so great that it would not recover for sometime. Venetia achieved superiority in the seas for now.
(Rome - 8 Squadrons Venice -3 Squadrons).
But as the city of Vernacius was burned to the gound, the roman fleet sank to the bottom of the seas, and the Venetians attacked at the north, Rome recovered. Its armies organized and a General was given the powers of a Dictator for the time of the war. Giving him control and power of the senate. (but had to give up his power after the end of the conflict).
The Legions organized and moved south. Faced almost 2 to 1, the Venetians boarded their ships and went back home. The Romans attacked in the north, gaining a significant victory against Venice, destroying most of the men there.
(-2 Venician divisions).
The Roman army was now much larger than that of Venice, but numbers now meant nothing, as Venice had the infrastructure and population to raise enough manpower to fight in the war.
Rome did have one possible advantage that could mean complete destruction of their Enemies......
The Dark Age of Kalmar began with the invasion of its lands by the Swedish armies.
Sweden had contemplated expansion south not as a luxury, but a necessity. Expansion north didnt give much returns when it came to farming or feeding the population, so they looked down at the kalmar.
The
Kalmar Union was the most educated and enlightened people in Europe at this time. Its citizens were the most eduacated, skilled with many arts, here is where the largest concentration of literate people lived too.
But as state resources were spent to educate people, and people spent their times in building, craftsmanship and search for knowledge, their army did not grow to meet the Swedish numbers.
And so when the Swedish armies marched south, the orders were to defend on all fronts. Being weaker everywhere and strong nowhere, A city did fall to sweden. But the Kalmar capital was burned by its own citizens on a scorched earth policy. The Kalmar army finally re-grouped and slowed the advance of a Swedish army whose numbers seemed endless.
As they ran out of space and were left w/ only some strips of land on the southern coast, they found some Lithuanian merchant ships. The education of the Kelmar allowed for them to study, and not only build, but enlarge upon the Lithanian ship designs. They quickly built some ships and sailed on exile from scandinavia, carring nothing more than the mere knowledge they had.
Sweden had taken the kelmar lands, but the kelmar was not destroyed. Upon landing in the Northern German coast, they encountered Pomeranians!. This was where the Kelmar people started from (the leader of the kelmar was known as Eric of Pomerania). The populations mixed again and pomeranian soldiers joined into the new Kelmar nation
(altough it lost 2 education levels due to the new incomming of uneducated people).
It was a new start, and a golden age, might not have been averted...
(-10 divisions Kelmar)(+5 divisions kelmar) (-14 divisions sweden)
Denmark took the sourhtern areas as Sweden did not have the strenght to hold so much new territory so fast.
The Nile Ran dry and crops failed on
Egypt. Egypt was solely dependent on the annual flooding of the Nile to bring fertile soil to its shores. But for the last few years this has failed. THere is famine and death.
And so the Pharaoh of Egypt sent an envoy to
Antioch, They had just signed an allience and who else could help him in this time of need?
To Antioch:
From Egypt:
Send us enough food to feed each of our cities (3 spending points) and the rural population (1 spending point) now and Egypt will be thankful forever....
(in other words send 4 spending points this turn).
From Rome:
to Venice:
Ha!, the destruction of that city will mean the destruction of everything you have built!. Everyone will be killed to the last man!, and your children burned alive!. Rome will get its revenge...
